On a random serious note...so I work with disabled people. Tbh if someone treated them as equals like this, they would light up like it was Christmas morning. Even if they lost, it would make them feel proud of themselves to know they got to a point where someone looked at them as if they were "normal." One of the hardest things for disabled people to face is the fact that everyone sees them for their disability, and not as people. As a result, a lot of them just give up and don't bother having things like opinions or dreams or even likes/dislikes. So to be seen and to be invited to participate in a "normal" event like this would actually be really amazing. Treating them as breakable or untouchable objects is essentially just another form of condescension, and another bullet point in a daily list of reminders of why they are different and can't just fit in like everyone else. Of course, it's funny for the show. But the reality of it is actually much different. This gave me a really good chuckle, but also made me think about how it's kind of sad how it's still stereotyped to be this way.
I'm sorry for being blunt but woke people have drilled that fear of being offensive to such an extent that most people just try to be diplomatic and don't even care or try to be "normal". If my words don't make sense it's because english is not my first language, but you get the point I'm sure.

What is fairness? Fairness is a a very complex matter for which there isn't an universal objective definition. Mankind tries to answer it since the beginning of philosophy and the concept of fairness has shifted over different eras as well as over different cultures. Your rhetoric question implies that there is a common objective understanding of fairness which is not true. 2. "She should not be allowed to win if she doesn't have the talent" Talent is an unobservable trait. The implication that the one who wins is more talented, is difficult. Even if we agree that the winner is more skillful, it is problematic to link fairness through skill. Simply spoken, skill is a function of talent and exercise. However that means, two people with the same skill level can have different levels of talent and practice. Who should then win in a fight of two equally skilled players? Someone with more talent or someone with more exercise? What if Manny's opponent is truthfully the more talented fencer but due to her difficult life she cannot exercise as much? What if she is less talented but exercised much more than Manny? And there it doesn't end. What if success of exercise is a function of talent and effort? How do we observe effort? Is one hour training for two different people the same effort? Perhaps as a diabetic you suffer much more for the same amount of exercise, perhaps she suffers less because she has a stronger mental health due to so many life changing events. A game is not a proper reflection of the vicissitudes of life and the repurcusions of one's actions. When I was 8, I still remember my soccer team all getting medals come the end of the season and me and one other boy didn't cause no one wanted to give us the ball to try and score during the games cause we were slow, out of shape and talentless, so we stayed behind near the goal post all the way through each game just standing there. On a random serious note...so I work with disabled people. Tbh if someone treated them as equals like this, they would light up like it was Christmas morning. Even if they lost, it would make them feel proud of themselves to know they got to a point where someone looked at them as if they were "normal." One of the hardest things for disabled people to face is the fact that everyone sees them for their disability, and not as people. As a result, a lot of them just give up and don't bother having things like opinions or dreams or even likes/dislikes. So to be seen and to be invited to participate in a "normal" event like this would actually be really amazing. Treating them as breakable or untouchable objects is essentially just another form of condescension, and another bullet point in a daily list of reminders of why they are different and can't just fit in like everyone else.
Of course, it's funny for the show. But the reality of it is actually much different. This gave me a really good chuckle, but also made me think about how it's kind of sad how it's still stereotyped to be this way.
I'm sorry for being blunt but woke people have drilled that fear of being offensive to such an extent that most people just try to be diplomatic and don't even care or try to be "normal". If my words don't make sense it's because english is not my first language, but you get the point I'm sure.

An opponent on a loosing streak can suddenly gain more confidence and reverse sweep you. Taunting and messing with them increases your victory chances. Normal viewers ofcourse don't get that but I have absolutely np with that and even encourage that

Ok besides that this is a funny joke based on "when it rains it pours" on which be both hopefully can agree, I find two problematic thoughts in your statement.
1. What is fairness? Fairness is a a very complex matter for which there isn't an universal objective definition. Mankind tries to answer it since the beginning of philosophy and the concept of fairness has shifted over different eras as well as over different cultures. Your rhetoric question implies that there is a common objective understanding of fairness which is not true.
2. "She should not be allowed to win if she doesn't have the talent" Talent is an unobservable trait. The implication that the one who wins is more talented, is difficult. Even if we agree that the winner is more skillful, it is problematic to link fairness through skill. Simply spoken, skill is a function of talent and exercise. However that means, two people with the same skill level can have different levels of talent and practice. Who should then win in a fight of two equally skilled players? Someone with more talent or someone with more exercise? What if Manny's opponent is truthfully the more talented fencer but due to her difficult life she cannot exercise as much? What if she is less talented but exercised much more than Manny? And there it doesn't end. What if success of exercise is a function of talent and effort? How do we observe effort? Is one hour training for two different people the same effort? Perhaps as a diabetic you suffer much more for the same amount of exercise, perhaps she suffers less because she has a stronger mental health due to so many life changing events.
Sorry, the comment wasn't supposed to be so long. There is just more to the question of fairness than one thinks. There is just no positive answer to it, and it becomes more a question of preferences.

In sports and competitions this is particularly easy to define since it relates to the rules and conditions set up by the organizers which place every player under the same circumstances, precisely so the individual skills and characteristics of each participants become the defining factor.
Talent is define as: “natural aptitude OR SKILL”. The difference between the two its not as big as you make it out to be, even though any skill needs to be honed in order to grow.
Regardless, the fact that the girl trains less for personal reasons or whatever doesnt make the competition “unfair”; it means her individual characteristics and skills are not sufficient enough and, therefore, she is most likely to lose which is absolutely fine, since the competition its not supposed to give “feel good” points to the winner but find out whos the best competitor.
Its fine to argue a holistic viewpoint of fairness which tries to bring into the forefront every single aspect of a competitors life, but its very shallow to pretend that the lack of absolute subjective equality points to unfairness. Thats a viewpoint thats bound to make people resentful and bitter of other peoples success and its wrong, because the fact that you are not “the best” at something does not mean you are treated unfairly; the world doesnt owe anything to you, neither prizes, good luck or an easy life; those are things you should earn by yourself with your tools. Some people are able to do amazing things and come from very optimal backgrounds, but those people also have a responsibility to do more. People should do as much as they can with their talents, regardless if that makes them finish first or last. If you pursue your ultimate search for this supposed absolute fairness you’ll inevitably become a tyrant trying to suppress subjectivity and individual competence
@@t3ss33 Yes I agree there is quantifiable assessment of fairness in life and those that suffer from it, but in a game we can deduce some balance c principles and rules on which to judge the participants. A game is not a proper reflection of the vicissitudes of life and the repurcusions of one's actions. But here we can infer that allowing a person to win just because they had it hard in life is not a good precedent for uphold. They will not value the true triumph of their exercise and effort. They will never understand the level they should aspire to be regardless of the situation in life. I'm sure you can throw the passive principles of Pierre de Coubertin who believed in keeping the sportsmanship alive in games with integrity and prudent understanding. Not everyone can be Luz Long and Jesse Owens. But even Jesse Owens had it really hard but all the odds against him to win the coveted medal. Children are different, they should not be always mollycoddled with pity prize, then they run the risk of being highly entitled.
Look I'm no psychological expert or pedantic philosopher, I felt that what was being shown was not really a great example of how a sportsman or fencer be gratified to achieve success. I liked when the girl gave her all with the words, " bring it on", she did not want anyone to take pity on her situation, that can't be smokescreen to win or given an edge towards success. Fair is when you do your best and also accept the result of your efforts. In this domain I believe talent is measurable and quantifiable, otherwise we would not have scores and ratings in any games. Maybe I don't have the higher cognitive ability to figure out the inadequacies in the sports sector but I support the system. Yes it can be fair and unreliable sometimes but that can be subjected to and personal bias... I hope you will not think too ill of me. I have fought all my life for what I believe I derserve and what I missed out on I have never run it with the excuse of the situation of my life.

When I was 8, I still remember my soccer team all getting medals come the end of the season and me and one other boy didn't cause no one wanted to give us the ball to try and score during the games cause we were slow, out of shape and talentless, so we stayed behind near the goal post all the way through each game just standing there. Did it hurt we got nothing? Yes. Did I learn a valuable lesson? Hell yes. No one is gonna give you (or should not give you) something for nothing. You want it, then go take it.
