- Join me and my good friend @AlexChoi1 on another flight in the Piaggio! Today we are flying up to Scappoose, Oregon to pick up the owner. The forecast was calling for rain, low visibility, and ice at our planned time of arrival, so we talk about some of the decisions I made to complete this flight safely.
Check out my previous Piaggio flight vlog where we dive deep into the systems of this incredible airplane.

As a former pilot and flight instructor, I have to say that you do a great job. You are very smooth and professional and boy, I wish I could fly that plane some time. What a superb piece of engineering. Thanks for sharing your passion.
Thank you!
Can I ask where your favorite flight destination was Spock?
I agree. I’m retired after 40 years and I still have the cravings. The kids got some talent some older pilots don’t. He’s a pleasure to watch
Don't lie to everyone. You worked as a cashier in Walmart.
@@DK-lk6ekYou must know you where on the next checkout
Dear Owen, I'm an old girl with mega time on my hands and almost zero avionics knowledge, YET I watch your videos for HOURS AND HOURS. Thank you for bringing us into what has previously been a no go zone! You are the coolest pilot in the web!!!!!
Thank you very much for the kind words!
What she said Owen. 👍🏻
*WHAT A PLANE DESIGN!!! LOOKS LIKE SOME PROP FOR A MOVIE.*
REVERSED PROPS, LANDING WHEELS TO THE SIDE, TRULY AERODYNAMIC DESIGN.
*AWESOME*
Italians do it better! 😎
It's refreshing to hear that the owners don't push you to fly in unfavorable conditions, I agree completely. Good job owner!
Yes indeed!
That’s how Kobe was lost. Gotta learn, and the best lessons unfortunately come from GREAT disasters.
What a gorgeous aircraft! The Piaggio is such a cool plane. Your flight and radio discipline is great. I appreciated the explanation of the ATC direction vs. departure plate instruction crossing Sunol.
its butt fucking ugly xD
thank you
you know it's a good friday evening when you have a new piaggio video
Haha thanks 🙌🏻
The best plane on the planet...... Absolutely love the Piaggio... Thank you for showcasing this Plane....What a beaut!
Thanks for watching!
It's cool that all the air traffic controllers know who you are. That plane is also a star. So smooth and quiet.
Quiet, are you kidding, it’s so noisy, some airports have banned it.
If you're flying in it, it's very quiet. Agreed - noisy outside@@foxlake6750
on the inside
@@jonathanbonnett9456 That just audio editing. It's loud as hell even on the inside lol
Owen, your concise communications with ATC is very admirable. As I alluded to previously the Piaggio 180 used to fly over my house years ago & I could hear it approaching from miles away. The 180 was maligned due to its very distinctive Wail but I really liked to watch it fly by. There was one occasion when the pilot made a somewhat low(1500 ft) 270 degree turn over my house & I did not have my Canon EOS 50D handy as the sun angle was superb to make the fuselage & spinning props glow; I still can visualize that 180 overhead like it was yesterday; that would have made an epic print that rivaled my Osprey bird with wings outstretched soaring overhead at 75 feet a once in a lifetime capture. The charter company is now flying the Piaggio Evo on routes that are either West or East of my house location in Seminole FL but I can still hear the Evo approaching with its muted Wail. What an awesome mechanical bird she is!!!
So good that you’re getting called out every frequency!!
Makes for fun flights
It's so still in the air it's incredible. The vibe of this small jet-like plane is so cool and unique.
Another great video. That’s a beautiful part of Oregon. Nice job with the single pilot IFR workload. My biggest takeaway from the video was when you were talking about the weather and your decision making process as far as moving the takeoff time or sometimes even canceling. To me that’s huge…safety. Weather will always be the nemesis and I thought it was great for us to see someone at your level of experience explain how you come up with a go/no go decision based on accurate and real time weather information. Nicely done sir.
Thank you! Absolutely. I never take chances with weather no matter what plane I’m in and always take a more conservative approach.
Great video Owen! You know you've arrived when ATC gives a "what up". Thanks for being such an awesome guy taking us along with you!
Yes but/and ATC knows he’ll be on a CZcams video if gets cute on comms.
Rotate speed? Cruise speed you were doing, landing speed and fuel burned per hour? What a great plane. Best of all worlds.
I have loved these planes for a long time! Now living vicariously through you....
The Piaggio is certainly a unique looking aircraft. Ah flying out of KSJC, done that a few times...way back before Owen was born. Learned how to fly over at KRHV in 1971-72. Did my commercial training at KSEE while stationed at NAS Miramar. Couldn't have even imagined a plane like the Piaggio or today's avionics back then. Thanks for taking us along on today's flight.
I worked and flew glider rides at KCVH '96-'15 and always enjoyed visits from the Piaggio! Great presentation, thanks
I love the sound the piaggio makes, theres nothing like it and its amazing =D another great video man!
As always great to see you flying!
Thanks!
So much to remember and understand as a pilot. Kudos
You have worked so hard to get where you are and managed to share it with us all along. You're videos are both inspiring and educational. Thank you for all you do and here's wishing you a very happy holiday...even though my guess is you'll be working! :)
Thank you Norm for your continued support! Happy holidays to you and the fam.
Worked so hard? 23 yrs old? Hmm. Guessing things were pretty smooth on the way.
@@bruceatkinson5357 Hey Bruce! That he’s only 23 yet has come so far would typically, at least to most folks, be indicative of hard work. But some people just don’t understand. Such is the world we live in. Happy new year’s sir….
@@normk5761 He’s obviously a unique talent that is a corporate pilot who has had the opportunity, connections and resources to achieve his position. I might be wrong, but I think that’s not the norm. Happy New Year
@@bruceatkinson5357And if he didn’t work hard at it, he wouldn’t be where he is. Go be negative some place else.
There's a P180 that flies over my place regularly en route to Montreal YUL, and I can recognize it just by the sound as it is so characteristic. Great aircraft.
Nice one, safe flight.! Standing by on your decision for your safety and pax makes a good Captain.!
Like always enjoy flying with you gentlemen. thanks again for the enjoyment.
Love the Piaggio sound on the flyover (live in the PDX pattern). This and the Starships are just cool.
I agree!
Love your professional, safe attitude.
Gorgeous aircraft. I was surprised to hear you say it's banned at some airports because of the noise it makes, as if the other jets at those airports don't scream, roar, and make deafening noise from the outside. I've seen a couple fly-along videos with the Piaggio P180 and in every one of them she's just as smooth as butter. Thanks for taking us along. Oregon is beautiful. Hope to make it out there someday myself.
She’s definitely a noise maker.
Prop issue, pusher configuration, or engine?
its not louder than others, it just a different kind of noise and it makes people take notice.
@@guguigugu that's what noisier means, more sound energy in a frequency range that humans are sensitive to...
that being said, i came looking for this aircraft as i've heard a different and louder sound a few times and went outside to check what's what and noticed the aircraft's shape and engine placement. my house is a few miles from a local airport right under the departure path and some jets are truly quiet. i suspect the amount of throttle at takeoff also plays a role in noise levels, but i know nothing about airplanes and flying
That was awesome to watch. I did my Solo long Cross-Country a couple months ago and landed at Scappoose as one of the legs. Super beautiful area! Definitely an area I'll take passengers to later on.
Fun hearing some familiar voices when working Seattle Center. Scappoose had the cheap gas this year, topped off there three times in the Cessna 205 on flights up to the San Juans. So glad you like where we live. I fled California in 1972 and never looked back. On the other hand, I logged over 17 inches of rain in the first six days of December. Loved every drop.
That plane is so smooth. Great landing too Owen.
Thanks!
Awesome i love that level of adventure thanks for taking us through
Excellent quality video! You're a true professional at what you do. Keep up the great work!
The P-180 is a sweet ride , I particularly like the quiet ride and the big cabin. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for showing love to my beautiful state! Love the video
Great flight. Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Love your videos and the inspiration you provide others to pursue the dream of corporate pilot work. You're not kidding about the P180's noise. The first time I heard one was when it was flying into KSAN and I couldn't believe such a small turbo prop aircraft could be so loud!
What causes that? Is it the props chopping through the exhaust gas stream? The Beech Starship is also loud, almost like a WW2 fighter at full power.
Thank you! Yes, she definitely makes an entrance
Good to see Alex. That is one sexy plane, holy cow! 🔥
Thanks!
Very cool video as usual and great seeing Alex flying with you. He is a cool dude.
What a beautiful bird! Thanks for sharing.
I could take that right seat any day. Wonderful flight!
Thanks!
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL PLANE! WOW THAT MUST BE FAST!
Oregon welcomes you!
Great job and video.
I enjoy all of your videos, especially the Piaggio rides!
Thanks! More to come!
Thank you for sharing a great flight. And Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.😊😊
The modern Starship, nice!
Yup! Thanks
There actually was an aircraft called the "Starship", but less than 60 of them were ever built. To the best of my knowledge, none of them are flying anymore.
@@Mark-pp7jy Built by Beechcraft with Burt Rutan's help. There are few flying examples left because most of the parts inventory was destroyed.
What a brilliant plane and video. I’m currently working night shift in ATC in uk and your professionalism is brilliant.
Great video! Always loved this bird! Fun watching you fly it! Your a an excellent pilot! 👍👍👍
Unique plane and sound; had one fly into our little airport yesterday... heard it through my opened office window here in the San Gabriel Valley, pulled up FlightRadar24, and sure enough, a Piaggio P180 Avanti coming in for a landing.
That aircraft looks so comfy. Amazing.
You are classy and talented. Your artistry of Aviation is off the charts!!!! Love your videos! Keep up the good work!
What a gorgeous aircraft! I love Piaggios so much, as much as TBMs.
Cool looking ariplane! And LOUD! Used to see one around Boston Logan from 2010-2018.
GREAT flight Owen. I like the split screens for T O & Landing! !! !!!
I can’t remember seeing a propeller plane like this. Beautiful
When I lived right outside DC, I'd see a Piaggio fly over my house every Friday at 4:30- and I'd hear him coming right after TO from Dulles. Now I live up in Vermont, I can only hear him.
Great aircraft, would love to fly one some day- you're living the dream!
Absolutely love you flying !!
Thank you!
great ride Owen ! thanks happy new year!
Owen, Thanks for the ride man.. There's a Piaggio that comes in and out of Cherry Capital Airport where I live here in Michigan, I live on a mile final, when it comes in, I know it's coming, the sound, the sound is annoying, the airplane, is friggen AMAZING!
This is a fantastic looking Aircraft ❤️❤️ Keep the Videos coming Owen 👍👍🥳🥳
Thanks! Will do!
Did my very first solo there a few years ago! Very cool to see this spot on the channel!
Awesome! Thanks
That is one of my favorite planes. And also Alex Choi. Great vid!
The Owen shout out at 2:09 was great!
This looks so beautiful & fun. I wanna learn to fly so badly. Great plane.
The collaboration I didn’t know I needed but so glad it happened haha. Cool to see Alex getting some time in the piaggio. Wish he would post more aviation content on his channel.
Is there something going on with Alex Choi and flying that i missed. Was totally caught off guard here
One of the coolest modern aircraft developed period. Beautiful plane.
1. What a FAST touchdown! 2. It’s got a trim clacker like a Falcon!
Best fly along videos on the Tube!
Thank you!
First time watching. Always loved the Piaggio. Great VID. subscribed thanks
Ran across your channel recently and really enjoy it. You remind me of my son also a pilot and an flight instructor.. and yes you pronounced Scappose correctly. Keep up the great work.
Thank you!
Beautiful state, my mom lived in Salem for about 15 years. Nice flight :)
Once in a awhile I see these type of designed planes fly over pretty awesome
Fun aircraft. I have one that is local to me at KSUA in South Florida. Love when I hear it and see it coming in for approach. I manufactured seats (not the divan(s)) for many of the P180s.
The sound this pusher plane makes is distinctive. I live by the airport and know when it's on approach. Cool sounding and looking with the canards.
Great explaination on the SID restrictions!
Fantastic! Cool Aircraft.
Thanks a lot!
Owen, the Piaggio is a beautiful aircraft. Watched your flight into Scappoose, Oregon. Awesome!
Great flight brother and very well done.
Excellent airmanship. Subscribed.
What a beauty.
Fantastic!!! Thank you!
Just love Owens posts ...need more.
We have a Piaggio that flies n and out of our airport frequently. I can tell its a Piaggio from the sound of the engine. Very unique sound.
Yup, definitely distinguishing
What a lovely, elegant Aircraft. Worked with Piaggio at their Finale Ligure plant back before the "great recession" hit them and they went bust (even with Tata's infusions). LOVED the scent of their interiors ... a pity that a platform capable of a ground speed of 463 mph wasn't more impressive in the BizJet set ... thanks for the hop. BTW, retired Engineer for LM Aero living in the Cote d'Azur ... just down the road from Piaggio.
Hi Owen, thanks for sharing. I lived in Scappose and worked there at the airport with Oregon Aero for 18 Years. We had a PC-12 and I have good memories flying in and out of Scappoose. We would also have loved to get the Piaggio. Greetings from Germany, Gerhard
Owen I love watching you fly these planes!
We use to have one that use to come in and out of Palmbeach! You always knew,it makes such a distinctive sound! Super cool 😎 Aircraft! 🤙
Young man has a talent flying. Great to watch how professional he is
Back in the nineties I was in A&P school at Portland Community College. We had a hangar at Scapoose where we kept our Turbo Commander. Damn that was a long time ago!
Sweet!
I was building some steps in front of my house this summer, and heard the most beautiful sound... looked up, and it was one of these heading to the airport. First time I heard one.
Lived in Scappoose for 12 years Great little town
WOW!! NEVER HEARD OF YOU BEFORE... Subscribed.... GREAT JOB!!!
A Piaggio P180 flies over my house every few days, goes from London to France and back constantly, Sounds so good
Best ride along and content and pilot on CZcams.
Appreciate it
That plane is beautiful ❤️
Your professionalism always shows
Thank you!
You make it seem so easy great job
Good job Owen!
Top notch pilot.
Thank you!
Gorgeous plane!!
Not only do they look and perform great, but I love their sound. I used to live about ten miles off of the runway 5 depature of KBCT, and I always knew when one (most often Avantair) was leaving. They sound like no other.
We used to call them the angry weedwacker (as a term of endearment) i guess the new props might be quieter
I work in the Adobe Towers, I can always hear this absolutely stunning plane coming in to land, and label it as the F1 in the sky. Awesome sound of the turbo props.
