  • As winter has well and truly kicked in, I thought I'd use the time to crack open the carbon vinyl that I've had sitting around, and wrap some bike parts. Not a job for the faint hearted, or for anyone who suffers from light rage!
    Hope you enjoy it and think about having a crack at it yourself! If you have any questions on how its done, then fire away in the comments section below.

    Great job, going to tackle some bits on my bike soon. I'm anticipating teaching my street some new words in the process!!
    Do you still use the primer?

    • @thelikeablerider8800
      @thelikeablerider8800  Před 4 lety +1

      I didn't on this part, I got given a big roll of this carbon vinyl (not 3M) and it didn't like the primer!

    Hi Shaun, will it work on metal? I’m thinking of covering the footrest hangers, where my boots have scuffed them.
    Many thanks

    • @thelikeablerider8800
      @thelikeablerider8800  Před 5 lety

      It sticks great on metal if it's painted, shiny surfaces seem to work best. You'll struggle to get it to stick if the surface isn't smooth. If I remember I wrapped the footrest hangers on my tiger.

      Lol I bet! Any other bits to do? Hugger? Small black Fairing parts?

    • @thelikeablerider8800
      @thelikeablerider8800  Před 5 lety

      Possibly! But a lot of the plastic aren't smooth and have some structure to them, which rules wrapping out.

    • @lambo2817
      @lambo2817 Před 5 lety

      Yeah just do the bits which will come out like the tank, and don’t look too chavy!

    • @thelikeablerider8800
      @thelikeablerider8800  Před 5 lety

      Yeah it's easy to go over board which makes it look shit. There's not really many more bits I can do, front fender perhaps, or part of it.

    Your getting quite good at applying the vinyl wrap fella, for that sort of plastic you want apply an etching fluid first, it helps with adhesion, still nice job.

    • @thelikeablerider8800
      @thelikeablerider8800  Před 5 lety

      I have a primer but for some reason it doesn't like this vinyl, the glue from the vinyl ends up coming off when you move it around, and makes a mess of the part I'm wrapping. Watched a few pros doing it, and they said if I wrap it correctly there's no need for primer. Never the less, thanks for sharing the tip😜

      @@thelikeablerider8800 Yes the Pro's do say that but having worked with one in the past and the fact that 3M produces it! they do use it, in fact they employ a few tricks they don't like to admit to especially when time is short.

      It's getting there mind you, and considering I taught myself how to do it, I'm happy with the results. Always happy to take tips and constructive criticism onbaord. There's another wrap vid coming for this weekend where I tackle the front fender.

    Great result bud. Is there a certain temperature you set your heat gun? I'm having trouble with vinyl lifting on inward creases, like the ones in the middle of the part you just did. Any tips?

    • @thelikeablerider8800
      @thelikeablerider8800  Před 5 lety

      Not sure what the temp is, wasnt on the hottest, but definitely hotter than say a hairdryer
