Batman[a] is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by artist Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, and debuted in the 27th issue of the comic book Detective Comics on March 30, 1939. In the DC Universe continuity, Batman is the alias of Bruce Wayne, a wealthy American playboy, philanthropist, and industrialist who resides in Gotham City. Batman's origin story features him swearing vengeance against criminals after witnessing the murder of his parents Thomas and Martha as a child, a vendetta tempered with the ideal of justice. He trains himself physically and intellectually, crafts a bat-inspired persona, and monitors the Gotham streets at night. Kane, Finger, and other creators accompanied Batman with supporting characters, including his sidekicks Robin and Batgirl; allies Alfred Pennyworth, James Gordon, and Catwoman; and foes such as the Penguin, the Riddler, Two-Face, and his archenemy, the Joker.
Kane conceived Batman in early 1939 to capitalize on the popularity of DC's Superman; although Kane frequently claimed sole creation credit, Finger substantially developed the concept from a generic superhero into something more bat-like. The character received his own spin-off publication, Batman, in 1940. Batman was originally introduced as a ruthless vigilante who frequently killed or maimed criminals, but evolved into a character with a stringent moral code and strong sense of justice. Unlike most superheroes, Batman does not possess any superpowers, instead relying on his intellect, fighting skills, and wealth. The 1960s Batman television series used a camp aesthetic, which continued to be associated with the character for years after the show ended. Various creators worked to return the character to his darker roots in the 1970s and 1980s, culminating with the 1986 miniseries The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller.
DC has featured Batman in many comic books, including comics published under its imprints such as Vertigo and Black Label. The longest-running Batman comic, Detective Comics, is the longest-running comic book in the United States. Batman is frequently depicted alongside other DC superheroes, such as Superman and Wonder Woman, as a member of organizations such as the Justice League and the Outsiders. In addition to Bruce Wayne, other characters have taken on the Batman persona on different occasions, such as Jean-Paul Valley / Azrael in the 1993-1994 "Knightfall" story arc; Dick Grayson, the first Robin, from 2009 to 2011; and Jace Fox, son of Wayne's ally Lucius, as of 2021.[4] DC has also published comics featuring alternate versions of Batman, including the incarnation seen in The Dark Knight Returns and its successors, the incarnation from the Flashpoint (2011) event, and numerous interpretations from Elseworlds stories.
One of the most iconic characters in popular culture, Batman has been listed among the greatest comic book superheroes and fictional characters ever created. He is one of the most commercially successful superheroes, and his likeness has been licensed and featured in various media and merchandise sold around the world; this includes toy lines such as Lego Batman and video games like the Batman: Arkham series. Batman has been adapted in live-action and animated incarnations, including the 1960s Batman television series played by Adam West and in film by Michael Keaton in Batman (1989), Batman Returns (1992), and The Flash (2023), Val Kilmer in Batman Forever (1995), George Clooney in Batman and Robin (1997), Christian Bale in The Dark Knight trilogy (2005-2012), Ben Affleck in the DC Extended Universe (2016-present), and Robert Pattinson in The Batman (2022). Kevin Conroy, Diedrich Bader, Jensen Ackles, Troy Baker, and Will Arnett, among others, have provided the character's voice.

The Batman returns suit is my personal favourite batsuit. It just has the aesthetic I want, the yellow oval, simplistic armour plating, the coolest looking cowl and a cape that drapes nicely over the suit. If the suit was to come back, I’d segment an areas on the suit and put Kevlar in between to allow for more movement. As for the cowl, I like to look at it as a helmet for protection as well as an intimidation factor. The suit just does it for me.

The only thing I don't like about the Batman Returns suit is the neck portion of the cowl. Those scales are the end of the cowl remind me of Kermit the frog's gills. However I love the simplicity of the body armor, the black and grey color scheme, and the ears are my favorite. I would love to see a version of the Returns cowl using the same technology as the BVS cowl so there's more flexibility for the actor.

I think a high placement for the West Batsuit is entirely valid. Every suit should be viewed within its own context, and 60s Batman wholeheartedly embraced the cartoony side of the character, with the visual style of a live action comic book. Within that context, the suit is a 1:1 translation of Batman's comic book appearance, and the fact that it looks more than a bit silly is all part of the self-aware comedic charm of Adam West's Gotham City.

The Battinson Suit is personally my favorite Movie Batsuit! It’s more agile, the cowl is fascinating, and I also like the idea that Bruce Wayne uses different materials to make the suit instead of using military armor. A few minor updates the Battinson Suit needs is to make the suit 90% more agile so Batman can use more of his martial arts while fighting, making the cape and cowl darker blue and the utility belt yellow while they still blend in with the grounded environment, and adding batarangs to Batman’s list of gadgets because he uses those in the comics.
Outside of Movie Batman, I also love the Arkham City and Arkham Knight Batsuit from the Arkham games. For a standard Batsuit from the comics, I even love the Definitive Black and Grey Batsuit with the black trunks and the Blue and Grey Batsuit by Neal Adams and the Batman: Hush Comic.

Every suit made for Keaton, whether the 89 or 92 suit back then or the new ones for The Flash that have been perfectly stylized to fit that Burton-verse aesthetic, they’re all just such a beautiful reminder of how much that particular Batman meant to me as a kid growing up in the early 90’s.

Pattinson’s suite is my favorite as well. Love how his jaw is not encased in the cowl. How his mask is very skull like. I believe Matthew Reeves even said in an interview that the boots he wears are Austrian military boots. Just love the idea of his suit as well. You can tell he started off as a very buff, ultimate protection suit and then evolved it so he could be more flexible, as he has now a year under his belt by the time we start the film in his second year as Batman. The little things that you don’t see often in the film like him not immediately wiping away his black eye paint from around his eyes when he takes his mask off or the boxing tape around his hands when he has his gloves off, all these little details just made it ideal for me. Can’t wait to see how it evolves in film 2.

12:Justice League Tactical suit (I’m not sure what exactly it is but I do like this suit)
11:Justice League suit (BVS suit with new armor parts and darker grey but now he can’t turn his head, first two parts are nice though I prefer what we had)
10:60’s Batsuit (it’s iconic for a reason, it’s hard not to like it)
9:The Flash 1970’s suit (I seriously wish we could’ve seen Keaton wear this cause it looks so good)
8:BVS Bat-armor (very good adaptation of the suit from TDKR)
7:The Dark Knight (like Adams, iconic for a reason (but for different reasons), but it does feel very busy I guess for my liking, still love the suit though)
6:The Flash Keaton suit (not sure what to say other than if this is his final appearance in the suit then unlike Affleck (sadly), Keaton is gonna go out in style)
5:Batman ‘89 (similar deal like Adams and Bale, iconic, does what it does really well but it could’ve been done better, which it was later)
4:Batman Returns (agreed, this suit answered my prayers from the last one, cleaner, no rubber muscles, the cowl fits better, and the emblem was perfected (maybe my favorite live action Batman emblem))
3:BVS (great adaptation of the main suit from TDKR)
2:Batman Begins (more simple, I prefer this emblem (also might be my favorite emblem), I think the cowl looks better, if it was very much black and grey with a more yellow/gold belt and they managed to make the cowl move without changing the style much then this probably would’ve been my favorite)
1:The Batman (I like how you can tell this is a prototype suit, it’s not refined like other suits so it feels different but still feels very much like Batman, plus having the Batarang as the emblem was such a cool decision)

I actually liked the nipple suits because I always thought Batman wanted people to think he was in fact a giant bat. And the nipples, muscles and cape and Batman darting around probably gave criminal’s the impression they were fighting a giant bat monster.
Although Batman didn’t dart around in the movies like he does in Nolan and BvS but that’s what I always imagined in my head. People thinking he was a giant man-bat.

The thing about the blades on the Keaton "Knightmare" suit is they're totally impractical... Like if you're gonna use knee blades, you'd want the pointy bits pointing UP, not down. It kinda becomes useless when the blades point down, because the pointy parts are never gonna connect with anything.
Also, fun fact: the 89 suit used a pair of jordans spray painted black for the boots of it.
37:19 Correction: due to the cameras of the time, the cape and cowl aren't actually blue, they're purple because the cameras couldn't capture blue properly due to Technicolor technology and TV limitations of the time.

The Batman suit worn by Robert Pattison was the Tom Ford of the movie Batman suits. It wasn't this stiff rubber coffin that Keaton had, it wasn't this visually busy jigsaw that Bale had, it had a balanced between form and function. While Kilmer and Clooney had their Batsuits tailored off toy lines and made it so hot for the actor to film in, it was too busy both the nipples and the abs, and the two tone highlights of the cod piece of the ice suits. Where they got it right was Batman Begins with the panther neck and the all black suit, it was iconic to see Batman sitting from on high and the wind blowing his parachute like cape with a velvety texture as designed by Lindy Hemming in the making of documentary. Then Affleck had probably the best Batman suit at the time, gone are the wannabe Iron-man rubber suits and back to basics fabric tights that was clearly borrowed from Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. They got it right in how this is a brawler suit, this is a Batman that can really bring the pain, as seen in that amazingly perfect fight choreography in the warehouse that was inspired by the Rocksteady's Arkham video games. And it went downhill from there where the suit got unnecessary flairs with buckles and goggles. But Robert Pattison looked like Batman so much in his suit just the silhouette of him is perfect. He has a suit that is padded in the front to take on a shower of bullets, his cowl shows off his strong jawline, he's able to act well with his eyes, and he has finally a belt that does away with the yellow which was long overdue just like the strongman underwear from the comics. And I know the studios can't help themselves with each new movie to change the costume to sell new toys and merchandise, but I hope that Matt Reeves is able to keep the suit the same. It is as good as it gets. The suit is like how a special ops team would wear, quiet and flexible, and in the comics Bruce Wayne is supposed to have a collection of scars and bruises anyways. What we see in The Batman is a fresh start and a break from the Keaton DNA of stiff unrealistic rubber suits and the padded Shazam suits of Ben Affleck.

Affleck and West could do that scene sure, but get shredded by shotgun. Pattison's got the right suit where it has just enough armor protection for him and the flexibility for him to do the fight scenes.

As much as it’s a cool idea of Batman having less armor just to make him look more confident, I personally think that Batman should advance his armor just so he looks like he’s both confident and also really well protected and ready for battle.
Also as much as I think Batman looks cool with black and dark grey, I think Batman’s suit being all black would ever better, because that way the name “Dark Knight” would fit him better and he would blend in the dark a lot better.
And kinda like was saying earlier, I think Batman’s first technical suit should have less armor and more exposure (kinda like what the Gotham tv series Bat suit sort of has) and throughout his years of being “Batman” he advances his armor to be more protected and ready for battle (kinda like with The Dark Knight trilogy Batman).
