Honestly the AR2 and Buzz Lightyear's dome are two of the most impressive fan edit effects I've seen

I think this is a case where there are so many tools available for the game/engine (with this video having leveraged Garry's Mod and Source Film Maker, per the description) that it allows a much deeper level of integration than most games normally do. All the assets being exportable to Blender probably helps. Of course, all that only makes it possible, because leveraging it all also means a ton more effort to pull something this good off.
This nightmare wouldn't have happened if he hadn't been forced to pick up the can.

Quite possibly the best YT video I have seen this year. As a gen-x'er that bought a Diamond Monster 3d-II 3dfx card to be one of the first to play HL2 at launch (it was a coupon with the card) then waiting for almost a year after that for it to ship, then playing the game and episodic content until my eye's bled black, I approve of this video. Because, well...when you are pushed...playing HL2 is as easy as breathing. Thanks for the push, Gabe. Now WTH is HL3?

@@gunpei Actually, you are correct. 3dfx went bankrupt in 2000. You would think I would remember that because I caught my first look at HL2 when Newall was showing it (featuring Havok physics demos) behind closed doors at GDC or E3 in 2001. Ouch, my memory.

The cool thing about this is that it was made with SFM as opposed to other stuff most likely just using in game cameras and pre rendered cutscenes.

This type of mashup is the best, where it isn't just "out-of-place ironic character," but instead the 2 sources actually complement each other really well! Makes you think about the great stories people could tell by creating such a sincere love letter to such different inspirations.

This is actuallu ingenious given that the slow escalation of Half-Life 2!directly mirrors the way First Blood starts. The fact thatit also lines up with the hover-craft and other details is amazing.

It's the little things that bring back Half Life 2 - the sound of the Combine helicopter's bullets (?) ricocheting off the airboat, the twitchy steering on the dune buggy - _those_ are the touches that told me John Rambo was truly in the world of Half Life.
