Bought this thing about a week ago, and it is by FAR the most overpowered plane in the game. So much so that I think it will be the first plane I'll be able to get to a 100:1 k/d in. It never should have been added imo since it would be fairly useless at somewhere like 7.7 where it belongs, but is absolutely untouchable anywhere below that br.
I did not meet this one often so far, like 5 times in total. After my first encounter with it I did everything you could possibly imagine to lay a finger on it in the other Games. Closest I got to one of these was 1.3km - would have needed a luckshot, and the timeframe to score that shot was like 2 seconds. Max. Absolutely untouchable in capable hands. Most OP thing I ever encountered.

Since it's a liquid fuel engine like the Me 163 it can control the burn rate and also shut off the fuel flow. To restart it, it would just need an ignition or self igniting fuel, neither things are very complicated.
I mean the issue really is control at low throttle. While you can throttle engines, and it is a signature characteristics of some to be able to deep throttle to great degrees, there is a low limit where throttling bellow a certain point can cause a flame out or even flow separation which can destroy the engine. CURRENT engines designed specifically for having a wide range of throttling can go around 25% before serious issues are encountered, and you often trade a lot for that capability. I think the record is around 15%. So the kind of shit that the BI can pull is likely not accurate. The goal of these planes was direct bomber intercept, where they would essentially fly straight up to the bombers, glide down and do a few passes, and then come back to land. Its likely only the ascent was powered. Edit: I did a dumb and forgot it was running on hypergolics, no igniter fluid needed
Throttling was actually very complicated for early rocket engines. Throttling is hard because your nozzle, pumps, and fuel injection system can only really be optimized for one throttle setting. Usually you just end up throwing away a lot of fuel for not a lot of thrust if you throttle an engine down. The me163 for instance didn’t have a throttle-able engine, it just had two chambers, a big one and a small one. They’d shut the big one off when cruising. That’s not to say anything about the BI prototypes, I actually have no idea if they could throttle, but I am almost certain it couldn’t throttle to 25% and am absolutely certain the throttling didn’t improve the fuel economy by 15x. Even with modern engines throttling is done more as a measure to prevent harsh acceleration as the rocket runs out of fuel (or to provide fine control when landing a rocket or something like that) and not really to be more efficient.
I remember this plane just taking a sudden uncontrollable nosedive in sturmovik 1946. There is also the upgraded BI-6 which has rocket boosters on the tips of the wings. I wonder when that would come
once i was in my f84, skirting the battle looking for a high altitude fight or to save a team mate. out from the clouds bursts one of these little B-holes. it was right after a sharp turn to cut off a guy attacking my ally, so my speed was lowered... the b1 didnt shoot for a solid minute. he just stuck on my tail showing the planes ability, and the moment i started to get a speed advantage from my dive, he blew me away. ever since then, i imagine what it must feel like to fly this plane in warthunder... dear god. i currently live in brazil, so 400 usd is about 2 thousand brazilian reals. the minimum wage here for a full timer is about 1300... literally more than one minimum salary payment for this plane.

I dont know a lot about this plane but irl i would say it has maybe a 10-20% throttle range from 100% Edit: I did some googleing and found that it uses a nichrome wire ignition system. AKA one time use. Again. I might be wrong, but this is just what i found.
Considering it was supposed to take off, get to bomber altitude in 30 seconds, get a kill or two and then glide back down, I'm not surprised. But it _is_ definitely better for gameplay to be able to throttle the thing.
I remember when I grinded the event for this and couldn't decide between the American Merkava, or the Bi. Looking back, I'm very happy I went for the Bi. It's always my destress plane I take out when I want to goof around. The repair cost is sky high though, so I can't go *too* crazy :P
In my first and only game against this (flying the De Havilland hornet) I saw that it was on my tail, dived, did a 180° turn and sharply pulled up. The chasing BI ripped it's wings and slammed into the ground. Lol.
1:22 on/off would be a solid fuel rocket, and even then you can’t stop the burning or turn off the rocket. With liquid fuel, throttle is controlled by how much fuel you mix in the ignition chamber at once. Half the fuel and oxidizer going in, half the throttle, although war thunder seems to go off of thrust percentage instead of throttle for the throttle.
I remember being literally $15 worth of components off to getting this but I had a power outage for the last three days and was absolutely livid because this thing would be so fun
I got this thing not long before I gave up on WT (I was only there for the (ww2) air rb) as being almost unsalvagable for me - still got the ticket (or whatever) for it as it looked like a novelty/fun/troll plane but I didn't play tanks. I'd mostly only been playing troll planes (p59, d2y2, p61 etc...)for the last year anyway - and suddenly finding myself on allied side as Japanese broke the last little bit of immersion - but if I came back I'd have to try this :D
It doesn’t have enough fuel. Super props easily handle the BI. If you dont let it abuse you at alt. It compresses almost instantly after trading a few thousand feet

As someone that as it too, you are beyond lost. It doesn't help that you have like 13 air kills in it and we both know most of those are in ground RB The fuel can last you 15 minutes without issues, some games even 20 props are still slower than the speed your compress at Sure jets can just straight line but you force a stalemate at best props just die to this thing.

I'm still passed about this event. I grinded 3 of the whatever you needed to get the BI or the Merkava and chose the Lubeck because I wanted to get the halftrack that was in the event at the time. Anyways I got the Lubeck and couldn't get the halftrack, had I known I couldn't get them both I would have gotten the BI... *anger*

My understanding of rocket engines is that solid rockets are, they get turned on and burn full throttle untill fuel depletion, liquid rockets can be turned on and off and can throttle by limiting the fuel input.
Yes, you can change the throttle percentage of most rockets, though it was dependent on the plane and its systems. Most planes that could do it needed a large and complicated throttle gate, something that the Me-163 could not have due to its size, but something the BI-1 was designed for
ok so using by basic knowledge of rocket engines: It wasnt until the 1960s that we got really "low throttle" rocket engines (rocket engines that can go below around half throttle before combustion stalls). Modern engines like SpaceXs Merlin can go to around 25%, but back in the day the lowest stuff like the V2 could go was... on. Even the R7 to my knowledge had very little throttle control.
This thing is a bane of everything around its BR, it can cancel anyone trying to climb in the initial minutes of the game. Also it has by far the best sustained turn time and even instantenous turns is extremely good. The fuel usage is absolutely broken. And finally even if it runs out of fuel, you can't strafe it on the AF due to insta-death AAA.
I’d assume it’s a liquid fuel motor, which can be ignited, throttled and stopped at the pilots leisure, rockets like the mighty mouse use solid fuel (Much simpler to make, as soon as it’s ignited it’ll burn until expended)
I wish these were rated historically for some game modes with 100 or nothing throttle. these rocket planes were made to intercept planes above runways / go for bombers
I encountered one of these things in a match when I was flying one of my Japanese fighters and it seemed to turn horizontally at high speed even better than any of my Japanese planes and I couldn't out turn him at all even with flaps

I severely doubt the throttle is accurate as well. The ME-163 IRL had a 4 position throttle unlike the in game version which is granular between 0% and 100%. Not sure if there is any data on what the ME-163's throttle postilions were or what the performance vs fuel burn at those positions was. I get the feeling that even if there was data on these things for the various rocket planes it wouldn't be implemented since they'd probably be pretty useless in game.

My favorite thing to do in the bi is to be ~500km/h and >2km below the climbing enemies then 100% throttle vertical climb directly below them. No one expects the plane to make it that far and they get caught off guard in a low speed state making them easy to kill. - bought this thing at $300
I don't know specifically about this rocket engine, but, looking at the type of engine, I doubt it would be able to throttle, rocket engines are usually on or off, being able to throttle is quite rare. an example of throttling is the SpaceX merlin engine, and even that I think can't go under 75%-80%, more or less.

How I would play this coz its speed or well maintained while maneuvering is to get about 400 ft about a target, dive, and quickly dogfight them at 0 throttle. The good maneuverability should allow you to finish a fight quickly
I think this plane has liquid fuel, so the "throttle" is more like a fuel release adjusting. I know some planes that had this type installed so they could adjust the thrust by adjusting the fuel "leak" into the rocket engine. I hope it is understandable😅 I'm not an engine expert
below a certain point the engine would just cut off, also im not sure they would put in adjustable nozles,pumps and multible use ignitors for something that was only meant to take off,get to bomber altitude, kill the bomber, and glide down with no fuel
Day 15 of asking to play the yak4 at 2.0 Start by a dive directly at q base that has another base clise to it ( 2 bases beside each other) 4 bombs for each Go straight to your base killing some ai on the way with your 7.62 Some planes will come on your back going in a straigh line with minimal evading is recommended and try to hit their engines with ur turret since they have weak engines a damaged one will lead them to crash i return to the airfield with 2 bases with 4 to 5 ai kills and 1 or 2 planes after taking off i go for bases if left but if not i will focus on ground targets cuz aa is the bain of this plane so bombing airfields is not recommended Bonus:do not forget to have smoke always on to piss the enemies 🤣

The BI-6 would naturally nosedive at 700 kph in Il-2 1946 so the WT compression is both a bit of a step up but somewhat realistic too

My understanding of rocket engines is that solid rockets are, they get turned on and burn full throttle untill fuel depletion, liquid rockets can be turned on and off and can throttle by limiting the fuel input.

Yes, you can change the throttle percentage of most rockets, though it was dependent on the plane and its systems. Most planes that could do it needed a large and complicated throttle gate, something that the Me-163 could not have due to its size, but something the BI-1 was designed for

ok so using by basic knowledge of rocket engines:
It wasnt until the 1960s that we got really "low throttle" rocket engines (rocket engines that can go below around half throttle before combustion stalls). Modern engines like SpaceXs Merlin can go to around 25%, but back in the day the lowest stuff like the V2 could go was... on. Even the R7 to my knowledge had very little throttle control.

This thing is a bane of everything around its BR, it can cancel anyone trying to climb in the initial minutes of the game.
Also it has by far the best sustained turn time and even instantenous turns is extremely good. The fuel usage is absolutely broken. And finally even if it runs out of fuel, you can't strafe it on the AF due to insta-death AAA.
I wish I bought it back in the day.

I’d assume it’s a liquid fuel motor, which can be ignited, throttled and stopped at the pilots leisure, rockets like the mighty mouse use solid fuel (Much simpler to make, as soon as it’s ignited it’ll burn until expended)
I wish these were rated historically for some game modes with 100 or nothing throttle. these rocket planes were made to intercept planes above runways / go for bombers
I encountered one of these things in a match when I was flying one of my Japanese fighters and it seemed to turn horizontally at high speed even better than any of my Japanese planes and I couldn't out turn him at all even with flaps

I severely doubt the throttle is accurate as well. The ME-163 IRL had a 4 position throttle unlike the in game version which is granular between 0% and 100%. Not sure if there is any data on what the ME-163's throttle postilions were or what the performance vs fuel burn at those positions was. I get the feeling that even if there was data on these things for the various rocket planes it wouldn't be implemented since they'd probably be pretty useless in game.
I think it's like the Ariete; more or less the same gameplay; same compression; turns like crazy; and absolutey unfair in downtier

Ive teamkilled them almost a dozen times, they just start freaking out when they see me on their team now. Makes me so happy.
My favorite thing to do in the bi is to be ~500km/h and >2km below the climbing enemies then 100% throttle vertical climb directly below them. No one expects the plane to make it that far and they get caught off guard in a low speed state making them easy to kill. - bought this thing at $300

I don't know specifically about this rocket engine, but, looking at the type of engine, I doubt it would be able to throttle, rocket engines are usually on or off, being able to throttle is quite rare. an example of throttling is the SpaceX merlin engine, and even that I think can't go under 75%-80%, more or less.

How I would play this coz its speed or well maintained while maneuvering is to get about 400 ft about a target, dive, and quickly dogfight them at 0 throttle. The good maneuverability should allow you to finish a fight quickly

It's not really throttling back more like adding less fuel and air mixture to the the rocket.

In IRL that type of "engine" is very much either full balls to the walls or completely off.
I think this plane has liquid fuel, so the "throttle" is more like a fuel release adjusting. I know some planes that had this type installed so they could adjust the thrust by adjusting the fuel "leak" into the rocket engine. I hope it is understandable😅 I'm not an engine expert

below a certain point the engine would just cut off, also im not sure they would put in adjustable nozles,pumps and multible use ignitors for something that was only meant to take off,get to bomber altitude, kill the bomber, and glide down with no fuel
Day 15 of asking to play the yak4 at 2.0
Start by a dive directly at q base that has another base clise to it ( 2 bases beside each other) 4 bombs for each
Go straight to your base killing some ai on the way with your 7.62
Some planes will come on your back going in a straigh line with minimal evading is recommended and try to hit their engines with ur turret since they have weak engines a damaged one will lead them to crash i return to the airfield with 2 bases with 4 to 5 ai kills and 1 or 2 planes after taking off i go for bases if left but if not i will focus on ground targets cuz aa is the bain of this plane so bombing airfields is not recommended
Bonus:do not forget to have smoke always on to piss the enemies 🤣
