Ya know, one of DemonOfNowhere’s stories is actually on bloomer, though not filmed nor on CZcams, they have a doc about a mysterious red private engine called Torch, and James with this Torch’s snobby private coach(es). Decent story iirc
The Milton Keynes Bloomer was my Apprentice project to bring it back up to a presentable condition for unveiling at the last proposed but never happened, Wolverton Works open days. Originally it was built by wolverton works apprentices and went on display on the 3rd October 1991. It was removed after basically being forgotten about and returned to the works. I started work on it in 2009 and finished it to some degree. It was supposed to get full lining but this was shelved. It again sat gathering pigeon poop for a few years while many dignitaries argued over what to do with it… it’s now on permanent display outside at the Milton Keynes Museum in Wolverton. I did a fair bit of research into the engines while on the project. The 7ft 1/4” driving wheels would’ve given a great turn of speed on good track but they unfortunately never really got the chance to prove themselves.
Oh wow, so Thomas' branch line has an older engine that resides somewhere in the area. Neat! I can imagine him and Toby being friends and him being like a 'great grandfather' to the younger engines.
I can also imagine imagine James developing a rivalry with Bloomer, considering his usual vanity, as well the fact that he'll have competition, knowing that he isn't the only bright red engine on the Fat Controller's railway, by then.

I never thought to question what the locomotive in Milton Keynes (previously outside the station, now at the MK Musuem a few miles away) was! This video may well prompt me to go and visit the museum for the first time since I was a kid.

Bloomer would be an awesome character, he'd be a big hit and good friend for characters like Edward, Neil, Stephen, Glynn, Skarloey, Rheneas etc given his age and origin. 👍
You know, I have written an AU backstory for Bloomer and am planning to buy a bachmann precedent class to convert into Bloomer and use a wooden railway stephen for his face. I also plan to make the S&M box tank engines, the W&S engines from Wildnorwester and then try to make the TK&ELR coffee pots.
Taillamp Studios it turns out that in some of the earlier episodes when you see Topham Hats home you can see a paint of a 2-2-2 engine who could possibly be Bloomer.

I like to think that Edward and bloomer are best friends there so similar
The Bloomers in real life were never really Crimson Red - they were teal green and then repainted black! Very beautiful locomotives.
I guess Awdrys Bloomer model red livery is a Preservation Livery as Bloomer pulls Enthusiast Specials and Railtours
I think there were some that were painted red, but it was more of a plum-like colour, before getting re-painted to LNWR standard green.
some of the 1861 Bloomers briefly wore a dark plum red livery
