Katamari Damacy is the reason I get scared when someone says: "How would you like to be part of something bigger than yourself?"
that in the fact that it's probably a cult
A perfect reason to be scared of such a phrase. XD
If you became part of something smaller than yourself, you'd be shrinking, dude!

my mum bought me this game on my 14th birthday. october 2004. It was 20 dollars USD brand new. i know that because she kept the receipt, and bragged that she got a great deal on a "weird silly thing" that she knew I would love.
she was right lol
Lol this gives me the same vibe as when my mom bought Munchables where cute little creatures fight and eat a bunch of evil food to save their planet, kinda reminds me of Katamari too. It was 20 bucks, and my sister and I loved it, I still play it like once a year to this day. Both games have the idea of gather/eat smaller things to get even bigger, both have amazing soundtracks, and both are kinda weird lol.
Moms rock
this the most wholesome thing i've ever heard
The Katamari games actually launched at 20$ on the ps2, they where meant as budget games that they did not think were going to sell well do to the weird concept. Funny enough the ports launched for 40$ and cut the English voice acting out.

You nailed it! My gma got me this game Christmas 2005 and I totally took it for granted, she even wrapped it in newspaper and tape up to about 45cm! It was a ball! One of my favorite games now that I’m an adult! The soundtrack is something else

a friend of mine used to play "wanda wanda" on her radio show and raved about this game. i have never heard the whole soundtrack until now and i'm awestruck
it's sooooo strong
Can we also appreciate how much of a technical marvel this game was, they made a PS2 manage to do all of those size changes where the game hotswaps in and out objects from the terrain itself into being interactable and eventually rollable objects with only a blink of a size change animation to hint that it was doing it. Just imagine how many versions of each level had to be made at different sizes to make it work for every size scale.

I'm not joking when I say that I literally have never touched this game until a few days ago and now I will remember that experience forever because of how insanely unique and weird it was. Madly in love with this game AND its soundtrack.
There's something special about this game but I can't explain what is.I still remember being in another boring afternoon playing random games but when I discovered Katamari it was such a psychodellic experience that I was completely unprepared for, many years later I found the OST and is just so good
It was a nostalgic gem that's for sure. Truly a Japanese masterpiece. Soundtrack makes me so happy and feel safe. It's more trippy and a fun kid experience than weird in my opinion. So unique.
I first played Reroll last year, but had watched a playthrough of the original a long time ago. Really hope they eventually remake some of the sequels so I can play them
Hope you enjoy it as much as the rest of us man, this game is truly a masterpiece (except for Taurus and the bear level- frick those)

Que Sera Sera is so underrated, it’s definitely one of my favorites
I sing it all the time.
I wouldn't call it underrated, but it definitely is very beautiful. It perfectly captures that '30s-'40s american jazz vibe!
The energy in those recording booths must have been unlike anything experienced before by man.
For all the games in this series, nothing beats the sheer joy of picking up this weird game off the shelf on a whim and just popping it in. That insane opening, the simple but colorful graphics, the subtle humor... that's why this game is my favorite of the series
If it weren't for my impulsive nature when in used game stores I would have never discovered this masterpiece of a series.
I wouldn't call the humor "subtle", but yeah.. this game is definitely a masterpiece
@@wojtektaracinski7977 I actually think it's a pretty good way to put it. The game is kinda just weird, it doesn't really go out of its way to be funny it just sorta is

41:48 - i like to think as this game was being developed, there were a few people in a room brainstorming different ideas for the soundtrack. YEAAAAH XDDDDDDDDDDD
absolutely insane that this game is almost 20 years old. i discovered it when i was 13 through caddicarus, and i got the game through a PS3 store flash sale in march 2015. i'll never forget hearing that "nanana" for the first time with the namco logo popping up. i spent so many afternoons playing that game - specifically on sunday afternoons when waiting for my favorite youtube game reviewers to upload. that summer i got katamari forever and i absolutely adored it. katamari has a special place in my heart, along with the amazing soundtracks

@@austinwiebe3801 Less weird, I'd think. This might just be my theory, but you're assaulted with a whole lot less audio information than, say, visual. I've heard smells elicit nostalgia because the part of the brain receives is close to the memory center, but I think it's also safe to say that one doesn't experience near as many smells as they do visuals, or even audio. How could anyone dislike this? This music is magic!
Ahhh this reminds me of how for some reason, Tommy Tallarico hated this soundtrack. He made a huge name for himself and his studio after doing the Aladdin BGM and stayed a big player in the industry until about the time Katamari Damacy came out and he talked about how it wasn't even music. I'm sure he's still doing his thing out there, but I have never heard him come up since then hahahaha

halo3odst very true, reminds me of my grandfather getting my brother to play it and listening to the strange “wobbly-sounding” voices.
I think the soundtrack makes me tear up because it’s beautiful and also reminds me that 16 years went by way too fast and that it’s not going to go any slower but that there’s still a lot of really good memories in their way
Never played this game but I've been listening to the soundtrack for like 2 years now hehe
good god that main theme SLAPS! It's cotton candy flavored, joy-scented lighting for my ears!
Roll Me In is just a legit good song even when taken out of the context of the Katamari games. Like damnnnnnnn.
Lonely rolling star was my first introduction to Katamari's soundtrack, and Katamari itself.
It's still my favorite.
I'm not sure if this has been done in any Katamari game before, but how cool would it be if there was a free-roaming randomly generated game mode with no time limit. That'd be so cool!

I think, all of them except We Love Katamari.

Tyler Nope They have that mode in the original Katamari Damacy?
Tyler Nope Wait, never mind. I looked it up.
I have never played any of the katamari games but I just watched a streamer play it and right when the main theme starded I was hit by nostalgia. So many of these song have I heard before and loved and never knew where did they come from
Currently I'm really stressed out about this big research project I'm working on, I've been at it for hours just being stressed and not making a terrible amount of progress. I put this on and now I'm smiling and dancing in my chair. I feel like I can do this.
