- "150 Years Later: Abolition in the 21st Century" with Angela Y. Davis, Distinguished Professor Emerita of History of Consciousness and Feminist Studies (UCLA-Santa Cruz)
About Angela Y. Davis:
Through activism and scholarship over many decades, Angela Davis has been deeply involved in movements for social justice around the world. Her work as an educator -- both at the university level and in the larger public sphere -- has always emphasized the importance of building communities of struggle for economic, racial, and gender justice. Having helped to popularize the notion of a "prison industrial complex," she now urges her audiences to think seriously about the future possibility of a world without prisons and to help forge a 21st century abolitionist movement.
This lecture was presented in collaboration with the McMaster Seminar on Higher Education (highered.mcmaster.ca) with the generous support of McMaster University's Office of the President, the Office of the Vice President (Research & International Affairs), the McMaster Centre for Scholarship in the Public Interest, Mac10 Young Alumni network, the Public Intellectuals Project, OPIRG McMaster, Bryan Prince Bookseller and the Hamilton Centre for Civic Inclusion. ONE OF OUR GREATEST REVOLUTIONARIES.
I wanted to name my PLP after Dr. Davis, in the custom of naming your child as a goal for the to pursue in their maturation. This woman is so much more than a Nobel Laureate, but is not.
No. She was an informant. Go talk to some Panthers.
She is truly a Blessing to the world.
@@Taylordessalines she HAD to be! Think about the circumstances. People are punished for telling the truth, opposing unwarranted military invasions, and calling out criminal behavior in "elected" (purchased) "leaders."
I love you Angel Angela ❤️🌹🌍🙏

Levinus would be an example of " egalitarian epistemology" Angels speaks of. Is psychological framing and concept of "ethics as a first principle" is in my opinion, a critical component of solidaric thinking and being. And/Or Hannah Arendts' psychological and cultural analysis of class relations. Levinus' understanding of "otherness" is particularly useful regarding the fascistic dynamic inherent in social upheaval.
