This is my deep dive, reaction, analysis and breakdown of Morissette Amon’s brand new performance of her song “Love You Still.”

This emotional ballad may be one of my favorite recordings of hers. We really get to hear some beautiful timbres, Mori really plays with different amounts of air, brightness, darkness, and some forward mixes. I love the runs in the melody and the way she executes them is lovely.
Morissette is a monster singer, we know she can belt, we know she can riff, but it is very great to hear this side of her. Sometimes showing versatility and just using your tone to paint a picture can be beautiful.

I'm guessing you've already watched the official mv of this tune. If you haven't, you should for some other perspective. This is a beautiful song she wrote for her dad who she's been estranged from for a while now. Didn't even attend her wedding last year. Her all-original all-English EP Signature is a compilation of outstanding pieces of songwriting which would be a really interesting watch if you decide to dissect each one.
Check out also Morissette's quite recent version of "Through the Fire" with a band playing in a place called "The Loft".. it is a quite chilled version with a surprise to it.
Wow! That was a very detailed breakdown and analysis, Erika. I did not know there's so much going on there in terms of techniques, style, vibrato, crescendo, scoop, etc. For me, it's just a beautiful and emotional song that is so pleasing to my ears and it touches my heart and reaches to my soul. But you surely have the musical ears that you can dissect each note to its molecular level. Amazing. But I'm glad to know that you liked every bit of it and the song as a whole. It is actually the first of Morissette's original work as a songwriter, which she wrote together with her then fiance now husband, Dave. She already had various renditions of this song, a music video, live with a band, on the Wish Bus, and now this latest one (sunset version). It has actually a deep meaning for Morissette, if you only know the background behind the writing of the song. That's why she was emotional while singing it, there were moments where she was almost breaking up her vocals, for instance, that "If we came face to face..." part, it was heartfelt and spontaneous, and we saw towards the end of the video that she even broke to tears while listening to her own song with the cello accompaniment and a more delicate and intimate arrangement. Morissette has the most beautiful tone Ive heard among all the singers in PH, the moment she opens her mouth and sings 2 notes Im enthralled already. She has an angelic voice ughhhh….. We all know how much dynamics Mori has when she sings but your analysis and breakdown just revealed a crazy ton of it. This is my fave song in her EP and this version made it even more especially knowing the inspiration behind the lyrics... really emotional stuff. Happy (early) birthday and thank you for such a heartfelt reaction to this beautiful song! This and Will You Stay are my two favorite songs off her Signature EP and probably my two favorite originals of hers, period. My favorite part is actually the part that got you choked up during the recording, when she repeats it again in a fuller mix, and everything from the last chorus to the end of the song...which I know seems like a copout mentioning that entire segment, but I just love how every moment of it builds.
Btw, you were right about her producing vocal breaks/squeaks by momentarily accessing her whistle register. When she signed her first record contract as a young teen, her label discovered she already had whistle register (as opposed to them asking her to learn how to do it as part of her sound). Because it's the same mechanism, the vocal breaks are something that also feel very natural for her.

and live with Her Manager's house and learned to live by her own.
After She left their house
Her father prohibited Her to enter again in their house and warned Her Mother and Brother not to talk to MORISSETTE. That's the time when Morissette begun to compose a song where
She could convey Her message to Her Father, Mother and Sibling. Come to think that MORISSETTE
had already 22 yrs old when She had her relations with Dave and MORISSETTE had a lot of Projects peak of Her Career and means a lot of money for her family and i thought it was because of money.

So glad you did this version of LYS, and really took it apart. If you haven't already listened to it privately, you should check out her live band version of Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw, which is at the far end of the power spectrum from this performance. She absolutely goes all out on that one, and it's another great song which emphasizes an interesting staccato effect.
Erika, you are song connoisseur, great analysis, your videos are gems. This song seems the most emotional of all Mori’s songs, so distinct from previous versions. Can’t practice this, everything in this just comes out so naturally for her…

Love your insightful and detailed review of Mori’s Love You Still sunset version! Great thing about Mori is that she never gives us the same version when she sings a song multiple times, be it a cover or her originals. Curious to see which LYS version do you prefer, (a) the original music video, (2) her Wishbus performance or (3) this Sunset version? Thanks!

Check out "Could You Be Messiah" which is a Christian song composed by Gary Valenciano and he encouraged Morissette to sing it - both are born again Christians. One doesn't have to be religious to appreciate its spirituality and one sees she also feels it quite personally.
