    Honestly, a lot of managers wouldn't take off Kossounou that early even though he was horrendous and visibly nervous/shook by the crowd. But it needed to be done if they wanted to win/stay unbeaten. Xabi is absolute class.

      It’s good that he had the guts for an early substitute. Kossounou was so risky, already had a yellow card and repeated the mistakes in the build up. Not every manager is brave enough to sub a player that early. Alonso is a serious manager and knows exactly what he is doing and what he has to do in order to progress. After the substitutes it became a different game. Not everything was good from Leverkusen, maybe they still had a little hangover from winning the league, but in the end they went through and got their record.

      Losers always talk about luck but we forget that luck can be provoked. He repeatedly attempted strikes against the defensive block and it ended up paying off. If he had not taken this individual initiative, it would not have gone in and even perhaps without the defender, it would still have ended up in the net.

    West Ham did really well considering they were without arguably their best player in Paqueta, and Bowen clearly wasn't 100% after injury. Just ran out of legs against a terrific side in the second half and had nothing on the bench to make any difference.

      German national team always struggles against the Italian national team, but German clubs have a good record against Italian clubs, especially in the past years. Even the worst Dortmund team beat Ac Milan. Bayern beat Lazio and that was just this season.

      West Ham was lucky they didn’t get a red card in the 25th minute in the first leg. The refs performances over two legs were far worse against Leverkusen than West Ham.

    Why does the media never mention the clear bias against English team in Europe. I’ve said it for a long time not that English teams should have English refs in their European games to make it fair.

      They don't mention it because it is not true. The Spanish ref made a lot of weird decisions yesterday, true, but on both sides. But nothing important like penalty, offside or red card. Leverkusen gained control in the 2. half, West Ham players were really tired from 70. min. I think, the overall result is fair.

    Respect to Leverkusen for being unbeaten for 44 games but this run will soon inevitably come to an end. They looked very average against us (West Ham) And we are 8th in the prem! I think Roma is when they will hit a reality check.

      Nah I think it was because of the big party that was happening 3 days ago, some players weren’t fit like u saw, many unexpected mistakes by players like xhaka and Wirtz that normally don’t happen. Also Leverkusen demolished u at home. Trust me, they won’t loose against Roma.

      He is staying at Leverkusen for another season that is confirmed. He rejected liverpool and rejected real Madrid. He is the type of manager that wants the challenges to win things with top 10 teams not the top teams of the big leagues. If he goes to Italy he will manage a team like Atalanta or roma. Then Spain he will manage real socidad or real betis. Tea,s like that from the big leagues. That's the type of manager he is and wants to be. He has made that clear already.
