    The mitral valve serves to ensure ONE-WAY blood flow from the left atrium to the left ventricle of the heart. It OPENS during diastole when the left atrial pressure is higher than the left ventricular pressure, allowing blood to fill the left ventricle; and CLOSES during systole, when the pressure gradient is reversed, to prevent blood from flowing BACK to the atrium as the ventricles contract. The mitral valve has 2 flaps, known as anterior and posterior mitral leaflets, which are supported by a fibrous ring, called mitral annulus. During ventricular contraction, the leaflets are kept from opening in the wrong direction by the action of papillary muscles which attach to the leaflets via cord-like tendons called chordae tendineae, or tendinous chords.
    The most common of all heart valve diseases is mitral valve prolapse, or MVP. In MVP, the mitral leaflets bulge into the left atrium every time the ventricles contract. In many people, the reason why this happens is unclear. In others, it is linked to connective tissue disorders such as Ehlers-Danlos or Marfan syndrome. Connective tissue problems are believed to weaken the leaflets, INcrease leaflet area and cause elongation of the chordae tendineae. In most people, MVP is Asymptomatic and does not require treatment. However, it does increase the risks of developing other heart diseases such as arrhythmias, endocarditis, and most frequently, mitral valve regurgitation. In fact, mitral valve prolapse is the most common cause of mitral regurgitation. The billowing leaflets may not fit together properly; elongated chords may also rupture, resulting in a LEAKY valve, which permits BACKflow of the blood to the left atrium when the ventricles contract. When the volume of regurgitated blood is significant, the left side of the heart experiences volume OVERLOAD and eventually fails; blood is backed up to the lungs, causing pulmonary congestion, a hallmark of left-sided heart failure.
    Mitral valve prolapse and regurgitation produce characteristic ABNORMAL heart sounds, such as clicks and murmurs, which can be heard during auscultation. Diagnosis is usually confirmed by echocardiography, a procedure in which heart valves and blood flows can be visualized LIVE using ultrasound.
    A leaky valve requires surgical repair or replacement. In a typical valve repair surgery, the floppy portion of the valve is removed and the remaining parts are REconnected. The procedure may also include tightening or replacing the mitral annulus, known as annuloplasty. Valve replacement is considered when repair is not possible. Artificial valves can be mechanical or bio-prosthetic. Mechanical valves last longer but usually require life-long administration of anticoagulant medications to prevent formation of blood clots.

      Get an Echocardiography done
      Most of MVP are benign and nothing to be done further. They remain there without any problem. Some patients develop left atrial dilation or enlargement that can cause atrial fibrillation and other rhythm problems that need treatment.

      How is it gone?... Maybe different echocardiogram specialist had different criteria now. You should do regularly echo (like once in 3-5 years) to know about your heart, it's very important, this valve prolapse might be mild and then show up again.

    Have they already tried to replace for ruptured cordae and other pressure related prolapsing of left atrioventricular valve (was that mitral valve) that very valve with prosthetic structure like TAVI? Because those are not ever de facto curative, but how about very adaptive stucture stent with traditional and biological-evolutional-sense ventricoarterial valve structure prosthetic device for those as well av-valves? Must have done already, so obvious is not it? Would not be nice, no opening of thoracic space and so on, extremely heavy surgery, extreme burden for stuff and especially, the patient...

    An autonomic response to the heart sending out a signal causes a sympathetic response followed by a parasympathetic response the mimic depression , a beta blocker correct this, however if your response is due to arrhythmia causing these responses the rate treatment will not work, try anti- arrhythmia meds or get ablation , with this problem you will have additional symptoms if initially feeling hot and later feeling cold, night sweats sometimes, acid reflux and anxiety attacks

    • @wlfgang
      @wlfgang Před 2 lety +2

      Repair is best option because it's your own tissue. If you replace it with metal you're gonna need anti-blood-clotting medication for the rest of your life.

      I had mvp repaired 10 years ago. Was a easy operation for me, done robotically at Cleveland Clinic. Repair is always better, though the surgeon will determine what is best for the patient. Now days some of the operations are done with the heart still beating and not stopped, this is supposed to be better on the patient.

      @@rashidkhan-xm4rl yes, I had pvc's, MVP and MR. Eventually I was diagnosed as severe and warned of imminent HF if not repaired soon. I had open heart miv robotic valve repair Sept 2019 (not replacement) Surgery was successful and at 5 months out of surgery I am doing well. I still have some pvc's but not significant according to my cardiologist. I have been able to do fairly strenuous activity and am able to have a normal lifestyle. I am a 75 year old male. I feel the miv procedure worked well for me and reduced recovery time. I understand pvc's are not really caused by mr or MVP but mine seemed to be less noticeable to me after surgery...

      Try not to stress man. You have to find ways to relieve your stress. Deep breathing. Then do research, don’t focus on the negatives, just research the ways to change your lifestyle and habits. Research vitamins and foods that help you. Then visit a doctor to learn about what the steps are that you need to take in order to prevent or to help your condition. These things just happen to us, this is just life, all we can do is just find ways to prevent it from becoming worse, or fix is all together. But most importantly just do deep breathing exercises and stop thinking about negative thoughts.
