just did this repair on my 2007 3.6 VE yesterday. You dont need to take the inlet manifold off completely. Just undo all 6 bolts on top and you can chock it up with a piece of wood or something. I was then able to remove the water inlet and change the gaskets. I also changed the top radiator hose as it was bleeding droplets of coolant on the end. I didnt need to disconnect anything apart from the mass airflow sensor connector and the evap oil return connector. Also you dont need to drain the coolant completely, if you put a drain pan under the car and remove the top radiator hose it will pour about 1 litre of coolant and then stop. Once everything is back on just top up the coolant and turn the aircon to hot and let the car run for a about 5-10 minutes with the radiator cap off. You might see some bubbles escaping. At the same time you can also top up the coolant reservoir until the dipstick shows full

I did the same, manifold does have paper gaskets that can tear and should be replaced, so shortcut at your own risk.

Who would have thought that after all these years, your video would still be very useful, and highly appreciated. The Alloytec engine on my 2009 Colorado (only 80 thousand km on the clock!) has a small leak in exactly the same area! I'm ordering the seal kit right now. (By the way, you have the most beautiful voice for narrating 'documentaries'!) Thanks from Tasmania.

Mufudzi Gambiza Hey bro. I was about to do this then watched the video for pointers and then saw you said you needed to buy a new intake manifold gasket. Do I need to purchase one of those too? Cheers. And is there and special procedure in putting one on? Like applying a grease or something.?

Correct procedure would be to only remove the long manifold bolts and the 2 others where you thought there were no bolts... And lift it out complete so not to destroy the $100 paper gaskets

If you still have this car its a good idea to fix the PCV system on the driver side on rocker-cover a piss-poor engineering design but basically cover needs to be taken off cleaned and PCV valve whole needs to be bigger its a pin whole needs to be at LEAST 3mm so drill it out.
Will make engine last a lot longer. make sure hoses arent clogged either :)

Andrew Kilner cheers mate. I've done it already and have also installed a catch can (one of my most recent videos). It is a very poor design the drivers side pcv had a tiny hole.

If you could help me I would be very grateful ...
I am here from Brazil and my Commodor Vz 3.6, is losing soda behind the heads, on top of the block. There, it flows through the steering wheel and it changes until it drips.
Water pump is new, and the supply nozzle is also new.
I put the cell phone to record and put it behind the engine and I saw that from the front it comes from the block ... but this fence of the colleague there of the video is not my problem ...

From what I've been able to shoot with the phone, it does not seem to be the thermostat, it looks like it comes from the front of the engine ... but you say you have a seal behind the water pump?
