Shades of Booker - classical technique mixed with blues - but nowhere near as natural or as soulful. Batiste is too sanitised for my liking. Booker was always playing on the edge which made it slightly uncomfortable and 1000 times more exciting.
I MET JON AT A CONCERT SEVERAL YEARS AGO AT AN UNDER THE TENT JAZZ FESTIVAL IN FALMOUTH MASSACHUSETTS I SAID WHAT UNIVERSE DID THIS GENUIS PLAYER COME FROM. ??? AT BREAK TIME I HAD A GREAT CONVERSATION. WOW LOOK WHERE HE HAS COME FROM. THE WORLD IS YOURS JOHN GO GET IT !!!!!
I worked on the backstage of this concert back in 2013. The artists were so cool with us (bartenders & personal lounges assistants). They were so happy to be in Montreux ahahaha. It’s amazing to see that now Jon Batiste and the Stay Human play on Stephen Colbert late show in the US
Jon Batiste is bringing back the jazz elements of style, rhythm and excitement that left when Pacific Jazz waned forty years ago … It’s back again with the elements of N.O. added by Batiste with his terrific talent and beat‼️ GO, Jon!!❤!😅 Hydi-ho, hydi-ho‼️
Jon Batiste concerts are in the form of revival celebrations.. If Jon Batiste comes to your town, wear something comfortable to get down too. Keep a lookout for JB and Friends live on Austin City Limits . Check your local October PBS local calender listings for actual air date
But that is not just Jon Batiste...it‘s Jon Batiste and Stay Human ...what about giving all the musicians credit in title...what a disgrace by Montreux Jazz Festival...Music Business getting phony and crazy. Gehts euch noch gut???
Since "Funky" Claude Nobs has disapeared, Montreux "spirit" has disappeared. It's now only overpriced concerts with the same line up than all the other festivals in Europe. In addition, the conditions for us attendants are really poor in the Auditorium where Jon Batiste played. The last time I went there for a concert of Jon Cleary, another piano player located in New Orleans, I paid about 100 $ for having no direct vision of the stage, having only small screens and, worse, not the direct stage sound but small monitors. I felt like I was watching the concert (excellent nevertheless) on CZcams. Next time(s), I'll go to other places like Vienne (France) or why not Rotterdam (Netherlands). My favorite festival remains New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Fest, but I can't afford the plane ticket and hotel accomodation every year.
He is filling a wide gap in music that died when Prince died, for me. ❤️
Even Marvin Gaye ...Jimi Hendrix etc he's revoking all those spirits ...great musicianship 🎼🎶👑❤️👏👏
Jon is the only artist I have ever heard who is on James Bookers level. A once in a generation musical prodigy who changes music.

He brings Joy to everything he does

That explains a lot. When I saw this video was posted last year I wondered how and thought someplace and people were immune to the Rona in 2020. 🤦🏾
What a gifted pianist!
Gifted: on the sunny side: what a great interpretation!
Spirited!
Keep using your GOD Given Talents it sounds wonderful to me:) ❤️🙏🏾
One of the BEST JAZZ intro’s I have ever seen in my life!!!
