- Say goodbye to Queenie! Just before their 3-year lease is up, Tim Esterdahl and his wife Heather are selling her beloved 2019 Mazda CX-5. She put about 20,000 miles on the crossover and loved almost everything about it. Watch this long-term video review to find out why she was so fond of it, what things bothered her, and why they are selling and moving on. Could it be a great used car for your needs?

Thank you for showing the car raw and not all shiny and detailed, it makes it more authentic
Very nice vehicle, a friend of mine has one and loves it. This will likely be my next vehicle within the next two years.
I just traded in my 2018 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring for the 2023 CX-5 Carbon Edition. Love it! My Carbon Edition is the only trim that comes with the polymetal gray metallic with red leather combination. All trim models come with the Sky-active AWD. My Mazda 3 had the touchscreen but the center console works fine that I usually don't use the controls of the steering wheel much. But the Sky-active combined with the Gvectoring plus in my new car make for better handling. Love my CX-5.
Have you had any difficulty with using the Cylinder Deactivation feature, which allow the vehicle to go from a 4 cylinder to a 2 cylinder vehicle on the highway /cruise control to save on gas. Do you feel this will damage the engine in the long run? The switching back and forth.
Appreciate the review. Mazda's are great cars IMHO. We traded in our 2019 Outback Limited with 40k miles for basically what we paid for it in 2019, and opted for a 2022 Outback Limited.
Yep, that red color really pops!
The only channel where you can get a carrion report with your reviews. 😝
We just added a cx30 to the family fleet...it's an almost Audi like in comparison to Honda Subaru and Toyota
I love what Mazda has been putting out in recent years, dont love the fact their only true car offerings as of this year are the a bit smaller than most compacts Mazda 3 or the truly tiny roadster MX-5 Miata. (which at 6'1" doesnt work for me) I do have hope they bring back the Mazda 6 once they finally release their new RWD/straight 6 platform, but not holding my breath since it seems crossovers still rule the sales charts these days. I know the crossover form factor works for some people, but I just cant get excited about them, not even ones that put sports cars of not that long ago to shame as far as performance/handling limits.
I purchased my Mazda CX5 in August of last year so it's 1 year old now I bought a brand new 2022 model but I did not get the highest level; what I got was the second level which is I think is called the select series and I love Big Red as I call her. It's a great car it's probably going to be the last car ever own because I'm getting up there in age but so far no problems. When people compliment the great paint job and say "is it candy apple red?" I love saying, No, Soul Red Crystal! I purchased the 5 layer clear coat so it's guaranteed to stay that beautiful color for at least 10 years.
Good luck on the ride. Looking at a cx 5 now, Where you get the clear coat? Does yours have the I-stop?
I just purchased a 23 CX-5 Carbon Edition. I absolutely love it! The build quality is very impressive. More people need to look at Mazda before selecting one of the "me-too" brands like Kia or Toyota.
Agree…thats why it is on the top of my list
Some people can't live without the touch screen. Touch screen, fuel economy (turbo models) and cargo space are the only weaknesses of the CX-5. That said, I love my 22' CX-5 Signature. Awesome vehicles.
@@2bookoo4u
2024 will have the touch screen…finally
@@miked6523 Nooooo!!!! That would suck!! Fingerprints and lack of accuracy. No touchscreen is a huge reason I like my '23.
One thing people don't know is that Mazda build the engine for 2019 model, so the reliability is on par with Toyota (so long as you do the maintenance).
Tips: here are the things so far that are easy to replace yourself that I discovered so far.
Cabin filter, air filter, and spark plugs (just need the tools for the last one).
any car is reliable as long as you do the maintenance I drive a 2010 ford Fusion still runs like a champ
20,000 miles? They're going to clean that up, and sell it for the price you thought it for in this market lol.
I swear they already sold it. We saw a red CX-5 drive by with the dealers temporary plates.
6:10 That's for safety. I don't see it as a negative thing. And the trunk light... did you check if the bulb is ok?. It's very easy to open to check.
How's the paint quality? I hear the metallic colors chip and report the paint is thin.
I've had my 22 CX-5 for three months and put on 11478 miles so far . A lease is not for me. I have usually sold my cars with 250,000 miles on them. My Toyota highlander had 320,000 miles. Regular maintenance is the key. Never had mice in any, just rats that stole a part once at night. Front wheel drive only version no longer available
I love that mazda red. It really comes alive when the sun hits it.
Can you fit a 4x4 sheet (1/2 sheet) of plywood on the rear cargo area?
yeah I just noticed that all cx-5 only comes with leatherette or real leather seats. Cloth Seats are good! they never burn your botton in the summer or freeze it when its winter, only the CX-30 has cloth seats on its lowest trim model wish the cx-5 had cloth seats
May I ask if there is different in using both sport mode plus manual mode together and using manual mode alone? I don’t feel any but worrying if using both at the same time will harm the engine. Any suggestions??
In the manual, it says the sudden uptick in rpm for a few seconds then back down is normal (that was a concern for myself and read that was normal so (relief)). Manual mode is ehhh at best, not a difference to merit the use (unless on main roads and highway).
This cx5 has so much lag pedal response. You’ll enjoy this vehicle more by installing pedal throttle control it. It makes this cx5 more lively.
There is a switch beside the hatch light .. it might be turned off
I just bought one of these a week ago... same car... same cplor... waiting on delivery....
I bough a 2023 Mazda cx5 preferred package Thursday, and traded in my 2013 mazda 3
Hi. How do you like? Does that trim have moonroof and Bose stereo system? What color?
You guys seem like a really nice family.
Very nice car. The color is great. Their reputation for reliability is excellent. I kind of like where the radio controls are. It’s really easier to reach once you get used to where they are. It’s really a viable alternative to Toyota or Honda. Is the wireless charger Jill approved? 😂
You didn't mention the ride quality. I find my '23 to be very bouncy and rubbery feeling. Granted, Omaha roads suck and you're out there in farm country. But I wonder if everyone finds it as punishing as I do. I have the S Select, so smaller wheels which should be a softer ride. But it's quite firm.
Ride quality was good and we never noticed anything to talk about as far as bouncy or rubbery.
@@Pickuptrucktalk I see why. Found an article that they firmed up the suspension beginning with the 2022 model.
How did the paint hold up? I'm in the market for a new Soul Red CX5 and the only bad thing I seem to run across is that the Soul Red paint seems to be prone to a lot chipping. How did it hold up for you guys compared to your other cars? Thanks!
Never had a single issue with paint.
@@Pickuptrucktalk thanks for the reply, that's good to know!
I have a 2015 and the paint still looks great!
Did you have any issue with the cylinder deactivation feature? Engine, transmission, no issues?
Nope. Nothing.
At 20,000 miles I would expect NOTHING to go wrong with that series Mazda. @@Pickuptrucktalk
Did you have any issues with uncomfortable seating (driver’s seat)? I keep reading comments about the driver’s seat being uncomfortable.
Nope.
Cx9 looks great but the biggest issue is there is no 3.5 v6.. Only 2.5 problematic turbo. Next year Toyota release highlander with 2.5 turbo only no more 3.5l v6
2.5l is quite large for a 4cyl, and with the turbo it can make nearly as much HP, and likely more torque than a naturally aspirated V6. Soon Mazda will have a brand new straight 6 engine (better than a V for 6 cylinders imo) likely mated to some sort of mild hybrid system. Of course by then it will come in the CX-9's replacement (CX-90 iirc) and be one to watch out for in the near future.
Love that colour!
Sounds like a great car
Sounds to far away, can hardly make you out...
There isn’t such a thing as a good lease deal
cons... its a mazda
pros... (crickets chirping) LOL
??
That might have made sense 20 years ago, (I briefly had a crappy 2k Mazda 626 that was more Ford than Mazda) but ever since Mazda broke free of the Ford marriage (around 2009-10?) they have been getting their mojo back.
@@jbm0866 i woulda thot ford would have a good influence butthen again the pencil pushers at ford probly tried to cut corners to make it cheaper and charge more for it, the american way. so perhaps what you are saying is very true.
@@kinggzz nope not at all, it was during a time period Ford 4cyl engines and transmissions were crap, and those were the two things I had issues with. The body, interior and suspension were Mazda and pretty good for the time. Having said that, the timing belt snapped at under 40k miles (before normal 60k replacement reccomendation) and the transmission went bad at just under 60k miles. Thats the point I cut my losses and sold it as is to a mechanic who had easy access to junkyard trannies and could do the work himself.
The car is made in Japan. Top notch quality
