Yes! We still have a mystery! And how about when all three of them got it simultaneously!
In his book, Moe said he threw most of the pies from offscreen. The studio budget was tight, and he was the most accurate thrower.
Although it does take away from the overall episode. Now it is ruined for me when I see this episode. Thanks loads. NOT!!
I knew Moe's was the thrower of most of the pies in all the stooges episodes when they. Did a close-up pie in the face scene. Thanks for sharing.

Can you imagine getting paid buku bucks to be a professional pie thrower in Hollywood? How does one train? Does one have an agent? Does one have to supply their own pies and then be aware of allergies some cast members may have? Is there a professional pie throwers union? No wonder the studio said “let’s go Moe”. lol
Also, although this episode was banned from the air for racist comments, (product of the times), the premise itself with the “mysterious” pie throws, was a great gimmick and I think would make for a great comedy sketch today.
Last, was it just me or did Moe look a little thinner in this one? Probably from all that pie throwing.
All this talk about pies has me hungry for ….

I saw an episode(maybe more) of the Mike Douglas Show with Moe, probably in the late 1960's when I was an older teen!
I also saw that. Moe had all white hair then he combed down his bangs. Priceless.

Fun fact , the pies were shaving cream so that costumes were easy to clean up .
@@TimDrake-vn3woOr whipped cream. Back in the 70s when he was touring colleges, Moe had a college student come toward him and request he throw a REAL pie at him. Moe was against the idea since the pie contained real fruit, but the young man insisted, so Moe threw the pie 🥧 at him, fruit and all.

I remember seeing this interview. As for the episode, back in the 60s & 70s it got plenty of air play & I watched it several times as a child/teen.

Always loved this episode. I have known for a long time that Moe was the pie thrower from off camera. When he was on camera, someone else threw the pies. One story I heard, and I think I saw an interview with Larry Fine in it, where in the stooge short "In the sweet pie and pie", the Director gave instructions to Moe and the cast, that on the count of 3, they would get hit with a pie. After giving that instruction, the director turned to Moe and told him to hit Larry on 2. This is the part where Larry was in the suit of armor, laughing. Moe said on the Mike Douglas show, that because of his accuracy, he saved the studios thousands of dollars in pies, prop bottles that break away and other things.
I've never seen this episode, Rick; but I have indeed seen that episode of the Mike Douglas show from the 70's.

When Moe visited the Mike Douglas show he talked about his days as a stooge and the line up changes (Curley, Shemp, etc) He also gave a demonstration of pie throwing by staging a pie fight…..

I read Moe's autobiography many years ago in which he says he almost never missed throwing the specially-made pies Columbia used for The Three Stooges. (The "recipe" for these pies would make a good subject for another video.). As for the racist stereotyping of Japanese in this particular short, one has to remember it was made in 1942, right after the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor had drawn the US into World War II.
