Toyota Auris Gearbox Noise | Replacement | Removal

- This week we have a Toyota Auris with a gearbox noise, i was asked to replace the gearbox so i went for a test drive and they were right, the noise was like grinding/scrapping very possibly the input shaft bearing seen better days...I'll take trough the process of removal and replacement of the gearbox, i believe is the same procedure with the Toyota corolla too ...and don't miss my next video where we will be reinstalling it ...cheers👍👍👍

I know this was a long time ago but can you remember if the noise was happening when the car was in neutral? I have a similar noise but it goes away when in neutral or when I have the clutch pedal pressed in. Amazing video and impressive work

I have read on many forums that the bearings needed replacement...they have done some work in my transmission but not on the bearings yet 😂

I have problem with gearbox with 3rd gear is hard shifting and sometimes it I can't put it on 3rd but if I force it I can hear loud noise so I change it quickly to 4th or 2nd, do u know how much will it cost me altogether gearbox and fitting? I live in UK ( liverpool )
You know I have a Corolla Verso 2.2 d-4d and suddenly I lost 3rd and 5th gears. Gear wheels (cogs) went busted? I can engage the 3rd and 5th gear but there is just grindind sound and no connection to wheels. BTW gearbox had loud juddering sound for a while.

Am getting mad at the used car I bought.. after driving it for a month,it slips to neutral when driving it.its a Toyota auris semi automatic 07. I changed the fluid and it was normal. After some days , it happened again. I will need to off and on the car before it will engage again in the middle of the road. Am Even scared to drive it now. I took it to the mechanic and he checked and said he can't find anything 😢 that I should keep on driving it and if it occurs again I should bring it.
What problem have with gearbox? Full gearbox you change?
This car must have been troght hard times because toyota last much longer then this much milage and also its not too old, the issues with the engine bay having rust everywhere and on bolts is that when we each our car some intend to wash engine bays too which causes water left behind and creates rust, because car of this age shouldn't have so much rust on it unless its like 20 years plus old or so. Also gearbox issue at this stage of car means owners never took care and driven it rough.

I’m not quite sure mate , but most garages would get an aftermarket one which is cheaper unless you ask for a genuine... personally I would have no problem using an aftermarket 👍
Cars Exposed I chose to order aisin 3 pieces clutch kit...
I could get any release clutch bearing ( Aisin,Luk or Toyota which i don't know what brand the use) for almost the same price.Hope i won't have any trouble and work fine.

Hiya, Yeap the noise disappeared everytime i pressed the clutch pedal .... Generally speaking you need specialised tools to work with gearboxes i don't know if i would be able to do it, the owner of the car found a cheap second hand one and asked me to replace it ... Cheers mate 👍👍👍👍

Input shaft bearing ... it’s possible to replace the bearings but it’s a reck if a job and specialty tools required .
can you tell me how many miles the car had when you changed the gearbox ?
It was a while back but I believe it was around the 76k miles

I have a question for my Auris 1,6 VVTi 2008. I have a low muffled rattlesound for 1-2 seconds when I first start up from standing still (and slightly accelerate), and this only occurs for the 1st and 2nd gear. After that it doesnt sound anymore for the rest of the trip, until the car has been standing still for a while again. I have read at some forums about different causes. After seen this clip I wonder if it may be the gearbox? Does it sound familiar? One thing I noticed was that the former owner had put more than maximum motoroil in it. Now it has sunk and this sound has become more common, I didnt hear it direct after purchasing the car.
Dannie Boy it’s difficult to know for sure without looking at the car but as you know this toyotas gearbox input shaft bearing goes quite often but I would expect to hear some grinding or similar noise through all gear so it makes me think it’s not your issue.
Can you hear any noise when the car is idling ? Does it make any noise when you press the clutch stationary idling ?
The noice occurs after the clutch has been released, only at start. Some times I manage to get the 2nd in gear before the sound, but mostly it will be with the 1st gear. The last try it came first when I hit the throttle for acceleration. I have never heard the rattlenoise at idle. I tried listen only when accelerating (at 3rd and 4th gear, after the sound) but couldnt hear anything, perhaps it was too much backgroundsound, so I will try that again, and listen more carefully when idling from both inside and outside. I recieved an email this morning from a Toyota dealer who said: "dont worry this is normal, its just the sound of a pump starting up when the car starts to move". I have never heard something similar before with any other cars, so Im dubious, and worried. I come back when I have made a more thorogh soundcheck. Thank you for your respond.

It's normal mate. I have the same car with the same engine.
After doing some research including asking 2 Toyota dealers I have found out this ominous sound is normal. The answer was that this is the sound from a pump that provide the valves with oil just after putting the car into gear and moving.
F**k, I just bought an Auris 1.6 124hp 2007 manual with 170.000 km in Spain. I don't have any issue with the gearbox. I don't see anything done to the transmition in the service history. I guess that if the bearing was bad it would have gone wrong already no ?

Never change gearbox oil!!! Last lifetime (100k or 5 years) or change every 30k and you can enjoy 4-5 lifetimes, same with engine oil...change every 3k miles and enjoy 4-5 lifetimes
