    I watched the whole series twice. Joseph Gilgun is a fantastically honest human and a wonderful storyteller. He should be very proud of his body of work to date.

    honestly Brassic is one of the funniest comedies I have ever seen. They have all been excellent, but the first episode with the pony and the chloroform had myself and my wife crying with laughter. You should be very proud of it Joe. For me it's up there with Fawlty Towers

    It's a rare and beautiful thing to be able to take such tumultous and personal experiences and translate them on screen in such an emotive but intensely humorous way.
    The character arc of Vinnie and his representation of mental disorder could only have come from the mind of someone who did not simply research the condition but who knows it intimately.
    Vinnies story resonates with me on so many levels.
    From his background, life experiences, personal interactions and the daily struggles that Bipolar disorder presents.
    From the hilarious highs to the depth defying lows you have somehow managed to encapsulate the many facets of the disorder and reflect them in a very truthful and honest way.
    A lot is also to be said of the characters collectively, their humour, the sense of their camaraderie through hardship and the resilience and resourcefulness of people when life offers little opportunity, and facilitates the propensity for "mischief" shall we say.
    I think it would be difficult for anyone to underestimate Joseph's talent both on screen and off and indeed, everyone involved deserves immense credit.
    The thing that I found most profound was in one of the most powerful and thought provoking latter scenes between Vinnie and Erin, which was both tender and bittersweet.
    On that note,
    It's highly unlikely, but if you ever read this Joseph, know that there will be someone out there who would not only embrace you, but cherish you for the man that you are (100% of the time) and love and support you throughout. Real love encompasses both positive and negative action and emotion : the sanity and the madness, the joy and the sadness, the lightheartedness and the darkness, and it endures.

    I was wondering what Joe was up to these days. Glad I checked CZcams because now I know to keep an eye out for this show (I'm in the States, so I'll need to look around and see how to get it). He's such a lovely person and so underrated. People sleep on him and his talent. And it's nice to see him speak so candidly about his struggles. It's important to continue to chip away at the stigma that still surrounds mental health issues.

    • @femaletrouble
      @femaletrouble Před 3 lety +1

      @@robinwalker9471 No, I never did. After some fruitless searching, I forgot about it and only remembered maybe a couple days ago. I'll need to keep looking. People seem to really love it.

    • @robinwalker9471
      @robinwalker9471 Před 3 lety +1

      It would be really interesting to hear the point of view of someone who's not British! Because it's showing off a part of British culture that isn't really popular anywhere else on TV, especially outside the UK! And the mental health aspect as well, which is so nice to see not brushed under the rug, but talked about, as you mentioned.
      I don't have Sky myself, so I bought the series on Amazon Video. Hopefully it will be around somewhere :)

    • @robinwalker9471
      @robinwalker9471 Před 3 lety

      Even then, Amazon only have Season 1. So I'm checking back for Season 2 all the time!

    • @femaletrouble
      @femaletrouble Před 3 lety +1

      @@robinwalker9471 Oh, man, thanks for letting me know about it being on Amazon. I used to use Prime and all the things that came with it, but it was so seldom I just cancelled it. I'll need to get back to it. It's a shame it's only the first season, but that's better than nothing.
      I have some familiarity with British programming, and it's cool seeing things from a culture that's at once so familiar but then also often so alien, especially when you're telling the less common stories of that are grounded in socioeconomic circles like the ones portrayed here and a few other places, like maybe Shameless is a pretty good example.
      Also mental health issues are prevalent in my family, so it's always interesting seeing it portrayed in media. Sometimes it's relatable, sometimes it's laughable, sometimes it's infuriatingly stupid.
      Thanks again for the tip about Amazon Video! :)

    I just found this so I am looking forward to watching the show. I love/respect Joe Gilgun's down to earth and straightforward attitude/way of thinking. As someone who is a bit of a misfit and whose honesty is not always appreciated, I find his honesty so refreshing and it makes him even more attractive to me (dude is hot). I wish more people could be so brutally honest. Sure he's a celebrity and I don't know him personally (wish I did) but he def comes off as authentic, and such a fucking funny dude. Is there a connection with Phoenix Nights at all? Lol or just Lancashire actors in general? Ray Von, Clinton Baptiste, Kenny Sr. As well as the whole dog bumming incident is similar to that of Keith Laird lol. Also Carl Slater, the Police Officer, bullied at school by the main group of friends and grew up to be a copper is very similar to the Only Fools and Horses' Slater. I suppose there's a big mixture of things and inspiration taken from other British comedies, as well as emphasising the Lancashire element and way of life.
