No one's immune to shoving, unless they are immune to shoving is probably the greatest line in series history.
When I was taking out the Goblin camp the Hobgoblin leader was giving me a hard time until I remembered I could push him and so I shoved him down a pit with giant spiders. He got mauled by them and even when he killed both of them and dragged his ass out to fight me I just got Eldritch blasted him back down the hole and killed him instantly
@@Broomer52 In the actual Tabletop Rune Knight is an amazing battlefield controller, because grapple and shove has size limitations. Rune knights have the ability to enlarge themselves. He also has shield master which allows him to shove as a bonus action (it's an attack in tabletop otherwise)
A not insignificant amount of opponents simply give up the moment a giant angry dwarf grabs them like a rubber duck.
It's pretty good but I don't think it beats "How do you oppress a cactus?"
@@Limrasson You might want to play as a Duergar, they get a free enlarge ability at level 3 in BG3. Also invisibility at level 5.
@@blshouse Did you test if duergar enlarge, normal enlarge and the elixir stacks?
The speedrun from "the vampire is pretty hot" to "wait am I into guys?" to "my vampire boyfriend" in less than a minute really does demonstrate the Astarion experience.
He really isn't attractive though-

Fun fact: Warlocks can get the Eldritch Invocation "Repelling Blast" which, when you hit a creature with Eldritch Blast, automatically pushes it away from you. This is automatic, has no save, and works even on creatures that are otherwise immune to being shoved, e.g. incorporeal creatures like ghosts.

And ghosts can die from "falling" too.

There is a save. I have many times hit with EB and had them not pushed (or, pulled for the other option.) It won't push / pull on a miss, and there is a save for the push/pull on a hit. Also doesn't work on large creatures, same as shove.

With one notable exception! If you shove Cazador off his own arena, he conveniently still dies but teleports back up to his coffin for you to loot him! Truly a blessing for all us goblins, oh and it makes it easier to save Astarion I guess.
I may make exceptions to particularly annoying encounters after having reloaded said encounter five times.
Hard to choose between "haha fuck you dumbass goblin go in the pit" and "ooh free scimitar"
@@starfishman1000Seems Cazador has seen this comment, because he suddenly remembered he can turn into mist and fly, thus shoving him into the chasm is no longer a viable strategy.
So I saw with the new patch. Truly a tragedy, but a fair one. I also tried shoving off the mind flayers that were up high so to speak, but they teleported back before.@@emmasilver2332
And then we all learned why shove was an action in 5e, not a bonus action
shove isnt even an action in 5e, its an attack. which means extra attack give you extra shoves.
It also is only supposed to move someone five feet
I prefer it as an attack

Honestly, one of my favorite lines--
For ranged combatants, might we suggest advanced techniques like "destroying bridges" and "destroying floor supports"?
Also the clasic 3-5 levels in Thief Rogue for two bonus actions to shoot your hand crossbows with. I personally like doing 4 levels Thief Rogue and 8 in Beast Master Ranger. Really effective with a raven that can fly around and blind creatures for 2 turns without a save when it hits with it's Rend Vision attack
Shooting pillars. Shooting hanging objects. Shooting door handles. Setting cages on fire so you don't have to recruit interdimensional alien companions or to reunite recently dead spouses :D
I recomend sigining a contract with your friendly neighborhood demon? Eldritch blast + Repelling Blast is your go to range shove option

Shove is really strong. Too bad you can't dive after them to grab the loot

Might I interest you in the College of Swords Bard, who with an action and some bardic inspiration, can do a shove attack (Melee or ranged, such posibilities!!!) and afterwards, can teleport to their target! (disclaimer: using this technique to push into bottomless pits or lava does not guarantee the safety of the user, who will most probably die upon teleporting)
If they're small enough, another great alternative is T.H.R.O.W.
Or Throw Him Really... Over, Wow!
But you need 20+ strength to truly throw humanoids for the full experience.
The foolish adept thinking death ward will save them when in fact it just makes them a perfect projectile for Karlach's frenzied throw
I shoved Auntie Ethel with my barbarian, thinking she'd just fall to the lower ground a few meters away and take fall damage. Imagine my surprise when I found out you can yeet boss enemies into chasms.
Honestly, I sometimes feel like I should be doing more with my bonus actions but 90% of them is just me pushing whatever is in front of me because why not?
1:01 This bit of pointing towards the opposite direction of the text is absolutely brilliant because it just makes the video more scuffed than it needs to be. 😂
Also the inconsistent alignment of the words for S.H.O.V.E. - only Kyle can expertly make something look completly amateurish.
The shove and later throw with high STR characters is god tier. So much fun.
No drug can replicate the euphoria of throwing a clown off his stage, getting an extra attack charge, and using it to throw the clown's dog directly at him
There's no better feeling than picking an enemy up and throwing them at one of their friends, killing them both in the process. I had Karlach subclass into Berserker and I absolutely love being able to bonus-action throw people around

I can feel the BG3 experience, even when away from my computer! Sadly I am unable to utilize SHOVE to its fullest and true extent as I am a loot goblin and I suffer emotional and physical pain if there are no corpses for me to loot.

Saying "no one is immune to shoving unless they are immune to shoving" is technically correct, which is the best kind of correct.
One of my favorite moment with my buddies (shortly after, they stopped playing sadly) was in the goblin camp. Im the knight and they were both archer and rogue. I went on the second floor (where a few goblin archers were positionned) and my turns were just me picking up the goblins and throwing them down so my friends could have LOS and finish them.

I just got the achievement for killing a creature by shoving them off a ledge, and the stats on that achievement are almost 50%. Glad to see this initiative really take off :)

This is awesome. At long last, the return of the sketches, as foretold in the ancient scrolls of prophecy !

Then I shoved him. Problem solved.
To make things better, Cazador "revives" in his coffin as plot demands just so Astarion could stab him to death in a cutscene. So you get all the loot and don't even need to deal with his BS.
I discovered this on accident because I was trying to get him away from one of the spawn and I laughed so hard when I realized what had happened. Actually did the fight later to see how it's "supposed" to go but it was incredibly funny just imagining Astarion watching me not only steal the kill but also the ritual from him.
@@Rathdrgnknight In my first playthrough, I avoided shove like the plague cause I won't be able to loot the body and see if there are nice stuff there.
So in my second playthrough I was shoving every useless mob but not bosses (cause loot). Then when it came to Cazador

found it funny that Balthazar's whole fight relies on him being able to cast a single spell...that gale can counterspell. once that's done he's basically just a singular squishy guy
On tabletop, this was never used in any of the games I played. I think the idea of an "endless pit" that instant kills was abnormal to find while casually strolling through town or on the road....

Baldur's Gate 3 shoving is so OP. By comparison in the tabletop version, my goliath with a +5 STR modifier could not shove a small kobold... 😢

If you're in multiplayer you can do it while he's talking to the other guy, skip the whole thing. Depends on your character build probably.
Larian really went the approach of, "Who cares if it's balanced as long as it's fun!" and the game is better for it.
