I was about to say the same thing. Most builders are hack players, but he has chops, for sure.
ikrrr
What is the tune he’s playing? Would like to have a go myself.
@@-Rickster- he mentioned in the description: "Little tune at the end is made up." I take that to mean that it's not a song, just something random he wrote to demo the guitar.

Carbon fiber cloth can be a bitch to work with, that being said this has to be one of the best layups ive ever seen. I had the honor of working for one of the best fiberglassers in the country, JR Franklin. The man had spent 35+ years working with fg and learned a lot of cool tricks, and in my time with him i saw him do incredible things. Most of what we did was on boats but we got to do other odd jobs which were always a unique challenge. He passed recently and ive been watching a lot of your build videos, you remind me a lot of him and i wish you the best. Thank you for sharing your talents with us
Thanks for sharing your story. That was touching.
That sounds like a really rewarding career

Is it me that think this guitar sounds much better than he said.
right? It sounds great...
The treble, mid and bass are perfectly balanced. It sounds incredible !! ^_^
I feel like it is a little cold and could use a little more bottom end.
No pun intended but getting any guitar did not sound like a ‘carbon’ copy is difficult test. This is a unique sound and I like it.
I agree, but it isn't that the complaint with most of the carbon acoustics on the market. They lack the warmth & unique characteristics you can get from different kinds of wood. On the plus side the all carbon stuff stays in tune & is super stable Regaurdless of temperature, humidity, or elevation.
Personally, I love how this sounds. Different than wood, but the world can always use different!
That’s a great way of phrasing it
This is the guitar version of that guy who makes knives.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Is it the wewd (wood but that's what he calls it) guy or the other knife guy?

Burl: *Builds something incredible*
Also Burl: this guitar really could have been better, oh well, I guess I'll know in the future!
This dude is the most perfectionist person I’ve ever seen lol
He's probably comparing it to KLOS guitar which is pretty well-made and sounds great
He's not wrong about how it could have been better, though. That neck joint is rough and the sound is meh. He said himself it was more of an experiment than an art project or production quality instrument. As an experiment, it was incredible, and a huge success. Burl will use what he's learned here to make other incredible instruments. What I like about him is that most artists like this wouldn't share such an experimental, rough piece, but he doesn't mind explaining his artistic process and showing off his weird experiments. I love it!
As someone who builds stuff for himself and others as a hobby, I can tell you that there's always something you could improve about your creation, no matter how good it already is.
Funny, I don't get the "experiment vs. Art" thing. Okay, so it's not an optimal musical instrument- but wouldn't that make it MORE a piece of art, not less? How can you not call that art? It's not a scientific experiment! It's not very "practical" as an instrument -but it's still art. The English dictionary says this mothertrucker is ART!
I'm not sure, but hasn't he won any awards!?? He's a musician as well as a craftsman!
Shut up
Rain song has actually been using carbon fiber to make "weatherproof" guitars for over a decade now, its a very practical guitar material
And some of the best sounding guitars are rainsong guitars
I have a Rainsong. I got it to keep in my place in Arizona, that isn't good for wooden guitars. It's an excellent guitar.

dpg 13 also I can’t understand what he’s saying
I think it sounds great, it's like half-way to a resonator sound.
I think it'd sound better slightly out of tune for slide playing
I was thinking the exact same thing. Sounds better for acoustic songs but similar to my resonator.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It doesn't have quite the same low-end though but the sound is pleasant and very usable, IMO.
A CF cone to amplify the sound would be great!
How are you verified with only a couple of subs?
I actually love the sound of it. I’m sure a lot of folk and country artists would like to use this
if they played it blindfolded i bet they wouldn't even be able to tell.
You have so much patience with your builds. I have seen so many guitar builders who rush through their builds and have to restart several times and are never happy with the end result. I congratulate you on your work and your amazing patience!
It sounds like a cross between a regular acoustic and resonator. I want it...
That might be something going because of the bolt on bridge 🤔
Martin makes graphite guitars that might be just what you're looking for
True. I like the sound.
It sounds good.
The reason it sounds so thin is those huge bracing struts and bridge block. More mass damping = less low end on an acoustic. On "real" (ie, commercial) carbon fiber acoustics, the bracing is far thinner - thinner than most wood acoustics, even, which are far, far, far, far, far, far, far, FAR thinner than those huge honkin' blocks he used!
Which isn't to say that what he did was bad - just not up to what people who do this for a living can do.
I see no reason to thumbs down this video. Young, creative guy tries something new, then evaluates himself on the build. We need more creatives like this and fewer critics. Good job!
I agree with your opinion, but almost everyone has haters, you just have to deal with it

a little tip for working with cf : keep it wet if you're cutting and sanding. That dust is extremely dangerous to let float around in the air. But an excellent job regardless of the safety issues. Love cf acoustics. They sound so nice.
amazing idea and even more amazing sound! this carbon fiber soundboard has something unique about it, a strange harmonic resonance, quite different from wood. it's very nice to see new ideas and to realize again and again how versatile this six-string instrument actually is.

Sounds lively and bright. Awesome build
I thought it carried bass pretty well considering the bracings simplicity but for me, the surprising tones are the highs that carry with almost this droning string type mountain dulcimer sound! Its almost like an acoustic and a dulcimer playing together. Pretty flippin awesome.
I actually think this has a really good country sound. I find a lot of those really twangy acoustics and resonators annoying, but this has the tone while still having a bit more low end so the chord has something to stand on
Sounds great and will probably last a long time haha
The playing at the end was beautiful
I love how it sounded in the end! It's a cool tone
I've watched this video like 4 times just to see the beautiful piece, whether you find it to be an art piece or not it's a wonderful guitar, has a super light and fluffy tone and honestly would love to see a MK2
Sounds like a drone open tuning - probably sound killer with a slide.

I found this channel when I first began playing on acoustic wondering if you'll ever do a guitar mod for acoustic. Then two months later I found out they made carbon fiber guitars which is now my goal for my next guitar because it's has become obsession. And now I see this. I'm so excited to see what other carbon acoustic you design next, this was dope.

I've made aerospace parts out of prepreg for years, I find this really cool. Good work 👍
I love the demo. Should put it on Spotify
2 things on CFRP: Wear a mask when sanding or cutting the material (I guess you do). Since in your case structural integrity is negligible, you can ignore the orientation of your fibers - but to make it look prettier and avoid any folds or creases, you can cut the individual sheets into more smaller pieces, which better fit your mold. Specifically I would have used 2 sheets for the body - one for the back and one for the sides. It would have avoided the creases you are getting at the body sides/ribs.
Any idea about the materials used at 1:46?

5:11 *THAT SOUNDS GOOD*
I mean, I'd watch a 2-hour long video from you. Your builds are always so fascinating & engrossing. And I have to say, as someone who expresses their creativity by sewing, this video gave me a great new idea about how to go about cutting fiddly fabric that is easily frayed or warped. I need to go find some painters tape now. If it works how I think it will, it's a total game changer!
Some things I like about carbon fiber: It stays in tune longer. It doesn't need bracing, even my 12 string. Meaning it's loud even fingerpicked. Yet it doesn't sound muddy when strummed hard. In fact the clarity at first sounded harsh to my ears but I grew to prefer it. Also the bridge won't lift. If you tune to E for decades it won't warp. Even a 12 string. And you don't need a humidifier or dehumidifier.
I love the way it sounds honestly, reminds me of Ovations. That carbon fiber resonates really nicely.
As a fellow craftsman, I tip my hat sir. 👍

Sounds great to me. Keep building and playing!
In Highschool I built an acoustic guitar for my senior project. Been quite a while since then haha. I modeled it after a Martin D-18 that my grandfather bought a couple years after getting back from fighting in the Korean war. He served in the marines and got out in 1952. He bought the guitar in 1954, and even though it's 67 years old it still sounds amazing. The one I built had an okay sound but nowhere near the sound you get from a *real* Martin haha. Since then I've made a few more guitars, a couple of Ukulele's, and even built the body for a baby grand piano. I would love to be able to do what you do as you are an amazing artist and craftsman. Keep up the good work man.
The contrast in your playing between the first guitar build and now is amazing! youve gotten so much better
