If BIG were made today, there would be a 20-minute section of the movie explaining why the Zoltar machine was magical.
They wouldn't be able to do it because of the fact that Josh was a minor, and his relationship with Susan was inappropriate. It was funny and mostly innocent back then, but now it would be a big deal.

Plus they would say the Zoltar machine is insensitive to those from the middle east.
If I spotted a magical Zoltar nearby I would wish to be a kid.

Never fails, whenever I hear the music when the Zoltar machine turns on, it brings me right back to my childhood . That mysterious gypsy music. They just don't make movies like this anymore- I hope our future generations get nostalgia from art, cinema and anything like these old movies did for me ❤

I was 9 years old when this movie was released in 1988. I would wish to experience the 80's again, but as a teenager and not as a kid...! I loved this film so much... the shimmy shimmy coco pop song scene, when tom hanks plays the piano in the toy store with his feet, the zoltar scene.. we had the best movies in the 80s!
I was a little scared as a child, i asked mother how did the machine work when it's not plugged in, she said "it's a demon, it feeds off he's anger " wth mom
I think the machine works by a crank wheels and pulley system like many watches and clocks do

@@Jdabomb93 Unless maybe only both the adult Tom Hanks Josh and his girlfriend Susan are the only two who can see the machine only because Josh told her that a Zoltar machine turned him into an adult and she didn't believe him so the Zoltar machine stayed visible for herself to see since she didn't believe him. Another reason it stayed visible for her is because, she was his girlfriend and seeing it would have given her the opportunity to decide if she wants to use it to change into a child again since the adult Josh told her to use the machine to turn into a child again which she refused. I'm sure the Zoltar machine would stay visible for Josh's best friend Billy because it knew Josh needed help finding the machine which is why he was able to find the exact location of the machine when he said to Josh "right there Sea Point Park" which took six weeks for Billy to receive as what was mentioned by the "Department Of Consumer Affairs" that said the list for all carnivals, fairs, and arcades will take one month to process and they will receive the list in six weeks after a month.

I love this Zoltar, he gave me lucky numbers, I use them in daily life situations, like 11 -8- I allways try with these combinations to win something, never won much but I never lost.

I just watched the movie "Big" a few weeks ago and it was nice to rewatch this movie after all those years.
A lot of good scenes. I wanna watch the whole film again.
I was such a little boy, didn't know what this movie was about, but knew Zolter scared the shit outta me.
I love that visual metaphor of all the kids running away because he loses his childhood.

This guy mention about this scene "little boy wish to be big and have sex with 30 years old woman" when he say that I was like "wait a minute, sound familiar, sound like I watch a movie from Cartoonnetwork", and it is this movie! Make my I wish I was a kid agian that I could be 10 years old and 16 years old again. I wish I could have went back in time and relive my childhood memories and Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Dark Knight trilogy and the old MCU movies again and Wonder Woman and X-men and Wolverine and Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep movies again. Also Star Trek because I became so obsessed with it when I was little and I wish I could went back and see my old cartoon movies like Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda and some Dreamwork’s movies and Old Pixar movies and Old Disney movies again. Also my old Nickelodeon shows I used to watch when I was a kid and Cartoon Network like Justice League and Ben 10. Also Star Wars Originals and Prequels and more to revisit my favorite childhood movies and tv shows and going to revisit my Broadway shows again. Also Horror movies again like Chucky and Stephen King and Wes Craven and Alfred Hitchcock and Godfather and more as well.

@Daniel Williamson Even if it was plugged in, it wouldn't start up. The way I know when the adult Tom Hanks Josh saw it plugged in, he unplugged it knowing it has to be unplugged in order for it to start.

@@danielwilliamson6180 I have a feeling the only way to get the machine started is for it to not be plugged in and then either hit and/or shake it because after the adult Tom Hanks Josh shook the machine, it started working. Also if young Josh here saw it unplugged, he would have plugged it in and then the machine never would have started and he probably would have went to a ticket booth and told someone that the machine wasn't working and it robbed his quarter.

I used one of these machines. on Fisher Man's Warf, San Franciso, remember the machine in "Big"? Well one was there, I got a telling for fun, mom and I remembered the saying for years. "You will marry later in life". Well, I'm not dead & a telling like that sounds like the sign that reads, "free beer tomorrow", it's always going to be tomorrow, so it's never wrong until your dead & can't ask for your money back if you are.

As it happens, in reality, the wish was granted but just not in the timeframe set by "Zoltar" or even Penny Marshall, who directed the movie or writers Gary Ross and Anne Spielberg. David Moscow, who played "Young Josh", will be 47 later this year. He's definitely an adult now. :-)

This scene creeped me me out MASSIVELY as a kid.
As an adult, it's really quite lame; and it's the rest of film, which if you think about it is essentially a jovial celebration of the statutory rape of a 12 year old, which creeps me out massively more.
He's not 12 in age physically when he's with her (you know, due to the magic of Zoltar) and it would only be rape if she knew he was mentally 12 at the time and banged him anyway. She just thought he was young at heart and sweet natured. Get your head out of the gutter.
