this was literally the most addictive baseball game I played as a kid, i loved this game lmao
I never could get through a full 162 game season. I always did the 30 game seasons.
Best baseball game ever
@@NorthernAzCards only sportstalk baseball is better
Fun fact: when batters would sometimes yell "oh come on!" when striking out, the clip/voice is Jim Belushi's character in the movie, The Man With One Red Shoe.
That's a great bit of trivia, I had no idea, thanks
Omg it is ..holyshit
***** Hey ever played Ken Griffey Jr Slugfest! That one was good.
yerk55 Yep! The bathroom scene
It honestly sounded like Bill Murray form Scrooged to me, but still cool.
I remember pitching a no hitter and was excited to see what the newspaper would say after the game, but it didn’t have anything about the no hitter. Also loved to hear that bat hitting the baseball when you turn the game on. Good memories.
Joey Ramone is my favorite baseball player. Up there with Johnny Rotten and Jello Biafra.
Don't forget Rat Scabies!
Greatest sports game of all time, my childhood in a game.
nope
This game brings up drinking in a basement memories. Passing out hammered in the 7th inning n waking up to the same song on loop!! Hahah love this game.
It's the perfect baseball game. Games can be played in 10 minutes making it much easier to go through 162 games. Stats, while inflated, are more realistic than other next gen games. The CPU can actually beat you! My first full season back when the game was released was with the Yankees. I actually took the time to edit the names of every player on every team. I finished the regular season with a record of 118-44. Danny Tartabul hit 65 HR's to break the (then) record of 61. I love the look of the players, the speed and feel of the game....everything about this game rocks. I would love to see it re-released with todays rosters and unlockable legends like McGwire, Bonds, Clemons, etc. Ah, to dream. I'm now 44 years old and am breaking this game back out. This time I'll take the Mariners and see if Junior can break Tartabul's record ;)
+52BBN That's awesome. I've played through entire seasons with Houston and Minnesota, I had Bagwell hitting .450 with 50something HRs. I miss baseball, I may start a new season today...
Oh yea, you can for sure beat the record w/Jr Griffey. They made him crazy overpowered in that game.
52BBN N64 was a great sequel. He's in there, and custom players was good for its time. I think one good sports game per generation is fine. Not gonna pay full price for roster updates and possibly worse music.
I loved this game
nope, its highly flawed, its graphics and sound above all else.
I too played this game as a kid. I spent hours in front of the TV playing as the Montreal Expos and Philadelphia Phillies (both were very good in this game). Everything mentioned rings true: The pace is perfect, the cartoony graphics added character to the players, and that music somehow does NOT get old. More than 20 years later and I would still pick this game over any baseball game I have played since!
Thank you sooooo much for reviewing this game! As a Seattle native it was one of my favorites as a kid, and it's vindicating to see it get a proper and favorable review on youtube. This game deserves more love.
Dude, Ken Griffey’s Winning Run is awesome and so is the music.
I love the Newspaper with the box score after the game
I hate baseball, but I love this game. I got it as a birthday present ages ago, and still remember it to this day. Excellent game-play, smooth mechanics. Without a doubt, a hidden gem that passes the test of time!
Ken Griffey Jr presents MLB, NBA Jam, Tecmo Bowl and Looney Tunes BBall will always be in my SNES library. Best sports games on SNES
Absolutely!
Easily my favorite baseball video game ever!!! Still own this for SNES and it's very fun and addictive. My teams are the Atlanta Braves (which is my favorite baseball team) and Toronto Blue Jays. Can't forget about the Chicago White Sox with Frank Thomas, Ozzie Guillen, Jack McDowell and Robin Ventura.
The best team is the Florida Marlins. Their defense is awesome, everyone has a super strong arm
@ garp the highest rated team is the cubs. Grace, Sandburg sosa, and Wilkins.
I had this 20 years ago! The players names could all be edited with the exception of (you guessed it) Griffey. And the first time I ran into an outfield wall chasing a home run, I laughed my ass off. It's not shown here but the player goes "OOMPH!" and falls flat on his back.
They Should've Had Included Undertaker LOL Imagine Undertaker In This= God Mode Intensifies
Still the best baseball game ever made.
Have you played Baseball Stars on the NES?
yes, and while its a fun game, its far from the best....todays mlb the show is better than both those games lol so clearly not the best ever
stucazzo2000 snk baseball stars?
Base Wars on NES
Wrong. The only thing this game wins is the best looking baseball game on SNES. The gameplay is terrible and relies on sheer luck.
This was how me and dad bonded growing up... Thanks for all the great WS battles dad
I got a SNES off eBay a few years ago, and I am glad I actually went out of my way to get both Ken Griffey Jr. games along with NBA JAM and NHL 94. I also ended up with a Tecmo Super Bowl, so I feel like I have a good rounded collection of sports games for the Super Nintendo. I have the most memories of NBA Jam but man do I also fondly recall Winning Eleven, at least the home run derby part of the game.
I thought I was the only one who took the time to edit all the rosters to the real names. Btw, Clyde's nose is awesome.
I'm actually playing this right now and I guess just because it was a favorite of my childhood and I'm actually having fun playing the season mode. Even though the only licensed player is Griffey they did a great job on naming the players. I will always love this game.
Its the BEST baseball game that's ever been made!!! Shit I still play the thing and it's 2018
I cannot believe I found someone else who changed the names to the correct player names. But noone has ever explained why Rob Deer was african american.
Dang, man...using an almanac is pretty impressive. Nowadays, people have it easy. I've gotten accustomed to using baseball-reference.com for 'roster realism'. :7
+goomba1982 True, true. Haha.
Adam Swain my brother and I did the same thing.
you are all kings among men
I changed quite a few names in my copy!
Yep. So to the period that you have Ernest P. Worrell saying "Steeerike!"
Now that's 90's! I love it.
I'm 39 years old, and we bought this game when it released and i still play it today. It took me 28 years to get a perfect game, and when i did, i was jumping around the house like i was twelve again, and my kids still talk about that day. Greatest baseball game ever
I grew up in MN playing this game with my best friend rip kirby puckett! Great video!!!
My friend and I would play this daily, now I play this game on my phone. Thank goodness for emulators. While its not the same not using actual controllers it still plays good and it brings back memories. Good video.
Maaaaaan, watching this video brought back a lot of memories from my childhood, I loved this game as a kid i would play it for hours... thanks for the video brotha!
And of course, I always took every opportunity to collide with a base runner. Such as walking down the 1st base path instead of throwing it to 1st baseman.
Yup, plus you gotta love how the fielders are always 999x faster than any baserunner
Ken Griffey Jr Winning Run was actually amazing in many, many things. And one of them being.. that the CPU would actually be able to give you some unexpected beatings from time to time. What other sports game was this happening lol.. but just like anything , you would end up knowing some patterns on how to strike out the guys 90% of the time and so on
Ken Griffey Slugfest for 64 is a classic too :)
Honestly one of my favorite games of all time.
ha! the music change from the original ken griffey MLB to "winning run" is crazy. the OG game has the coolest music I've heard on a snes game. so funky
FUNCOLAND!!!!
Seriously, this game was a childhood favorite. More could be said.
I miss Funcoland !
Love the intro bit targeting how short sports games' life span is particularly short, and how the ones we go back to all the time are the ones that are good overall. Friggin' nailed it.
Also, love the shout-out to Mario is Missing. XD Great game! #sarcasm
-Rory
I believe the excellent Super Mega Baseball series on PC and consoles is largely inspired by this when it comes to style and pacing. I should give this SNES gem another go, as a lover of the sport.
Even if you didn’t like baseball, this game is fun!
This is such a badass game. I really miss playing it. The sound and music really gets you going.
I absolutely adored this game! Played the hell outta this game with my dad. We played the whole season & changed all the players names to match the real life players. Also the home run derby mode was fun.
I hit 110 home runs with Darryl Strawberry..his name in the game was Graves ..lol..batting average 460...276 RBI's..lol
I found a way to hit home runs like crazy it was a heck of a game played it through out my teens...lol
I kept wrote down my stats after every season..it was awesome...lol
That's awesome. I've got a season going right now, more than halfway through, Puckett is hitting .510, only one guy in my entire starting lineup is hitting below .400
+SNES drunk hahahaha cool.
I remember I hit 545avg with Brett Butler..lol..he's the master of bunts....that's all u have to do with him....Kenny Lofton with the Indians also hit in the late 400s avg. with 25 to 30 hrs...
but Brett Butler was the best batting average hitter in the game...just bunts..to 3rd base and shortstop.....I've played with all the teams...the best home run team I played with was Texas Rangers you find at least 4 bench players that can hit 35 or more home runs....bc that Texas field is small and has a small wall...so u hit tons of home runs.....
The only problem I have with your videos is that I want to go play the game before I finish watching the video. Thanks for sharing, this game was one of my childhood favorites.
I played this for so many hrs as a kid and eventually slugfest on N64, but this game was very special. Also the Royals have the names of presidents which I picked up on as a kid
Great baseball game ... Easy to play and very strategic at the same time ... Classic
So this is where it all began... Nice to see you still talk about the game in nearly every podcast episode today :D
We definitely need a new baseball game in this style. If you liked this, try Baseball Stars 2 on the Neo Geo.
I grew up across the water from Seattle and a huge fan of the Mariners. I was a kid and didnt realize how cool it was to have a great baseball game based off my favorite player. Such good times. Junior was amazing to watch. This game was in heavy rotation with my brothers and friends.
Homerun derby with friends was some good times. Owned this and continued to play it until 99. Gonna have to bring it out of retirement soon.
I like the preamble explaining why there are always so many sports games in the cheap cart bins. Also liked the slightly different SNESdrunk intro here.
Spent a lot of time playing this game. Amazing game, my favorite baseball game ever....played many a season.
Ah yes, the game where you could bunt an inside the park grand slam.
You did not just dis the Ken Griffey Jr's Winning Run soundtrack! I could listen to that OST for hours!
Literally bought my first copy today. A friend and I used to play as a kid. It reminded me of those times as well as this video. Haha
GOD I love this game. Still playing it today. Yeah that music in Winning Run is...scary lol. I still cant belive that RARE of all developers ran this legendary game straight into the ground. Go figure. Anyway, how is THIS your second review? You say it's "hard to watch", but I still think it's incredibly polished and perfect. Happy 10 years dude! You better never stop!! 🤝 🤨
how amazing would it be if they just updated rosters and stadiums and re-released this thing today?!?! I'd be buying
Long live the Expos!
They have a retro version with the same one button controls on MLB the show 17 for PS4. Rosters are current but still a pretty cool future.
and add the Rays and D-backs to the game. Would be sweet
Here you go! tecmobowl.org/files/file/652-ken-griffey-baseball-2019/
@@dakranii I don't think its loading up correctly, it's going to a website with an apology of some sort
This was the only baseball game I had as a kid, but somehow I knew it was the best one. Never bought another baseball game. Great video!
Do Ken Griffeys winning run. Awesome music and visuals
Oh, the memories. We used to LOVE this game!
Dude me and my brother had to trade Wendell Clark to every team and make up fake players just to make him number 17 again on the Quebec Nordiques after his real life trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs and we’re from Vancouver 🤪 but ya we were kids what the hell else we gonna do! Great video and I loved this game. Cheers
Your Vikings issue is how I felt about every NFL game from the PS1 era until this 2020 when this year's Madden should be a lot better for my Buffalo Bills. All the other years... I just wanted to play Super Tecmo Bowl lol
So true that the Griffey games are the only Baseball games worth playing on the SNES.
Baseball simulator 2000
I agree, I loved it back in 94, I'm still playing it in 2020 after about 20 years of not playing it
I need to find Presents MLB and give it a whirl. I logged many childhood summer days playing Winning Run and I think that's the best baseball game for SNES. Also, the OST for Winning Run is flawless and I love the names - Big Magoo, Slick Fitz, Muscles McFee, Sluggo Steel - just to name a few!
Good video but heavily disagree on Winning Run's theme. It was freaking epic. Amazing theme.
It Sounded Like A Theme That Undertaker Would've Had Used
Fun fact: if you as the pitcher refused/didnt throw a pitch, the umpire would turn to the camera and say " come on kid, play the game"
0:22 The face of: "Why are you doing this to me?"
My all time favorite game of any genre. I've got so many fond memories as a kid growing up playing and watching this game. I've still got the same copy I had as a kid, which is rare for me because I've gotten rid of so many other things.
I remember playing this game during summer break ! So many memories 👍
I still have Ken Griffey Jr, got it for Christmas back in 1994! still works today! with many games and the same snes system since 1991, also NBA jam is what i play a whole lot these days, and NHL 94! system doesn't it jam all!!
I always loved the way the fielders loaded up for throws
I still personally prefer Ken Griffey Jr.’s Winning Run because I dig Rare’s touch of Eurodance and the overall techno-charm in it. That said, you have given me a good presentation as to why this one is also worth checking, I like the cartoony elements in it. Hey thanks for your video.
I love the part of the song that's like "bommmm-bom bommmm"
I'll never forget that Deion Sanders is "D. Neon".
I was ADDICTED to basketball and baseball games when I was a kid. Ill never forget renting NBA Live 95 multiple times bc I wasn't too much of a risk taker as far as picking out a game based on the cover lol
Woah Woah Winning Run has great music.....
Sweet! I just recently dug around a bin of retro sports title and NES sleeves and found this for $3.
THAT RARE STYLED MUSIC
The music for winning run makes sense since rare made the game.
I was 6 years old playing this game me and My brother Im 22 now this was my favorite game ever
Just started a new season the other day, oh the nostalgia. Takes me right back to after school, coke and popcorn or a hot pocket at my friends house. I was trying to find a baseball game on Steam but there is nothing that looks any good. Out of the park baseball just looks like a GM/Manager sim and the only other option is Super Mega Baseball which looks kinda meh but is slated for a new release soon which looks a bit less over the top cartoonie and I'm considering picking up if it comes out soon. Hopefully before baseball season starts.
Still to this day, my all time favorite baseball game!
It was such a fun game back in the days. It was a watered down version of baseball stars professional 2
I still loved Super Bases Loaded as a kid. I still play it once in a while. Then again I never got to play this game.
The names issue was due to the MLB players strike in 94.
No. The strike was in august. The game was released in March.
Total length of video: 301 sec.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 1 sec.
.33% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk".
Tf...I think YOU'RE the one drunk
Used to play this game a ton back in the day, and still play it today. I would say to anyone that doesn't have it should get it, since it'll only cost some where under 5 bucks
I bought an SUPER NES a few years back, still only have this game. Still love it.
There's a kind of glitch where, if you load the bases against the computer, you can sac bunt forever. You could win games by 20 runs and in season mode it would guarantee your guys would have the best batting average in the league
Winning Run had some great music tracks. You cut it off before it dropped! Rare was a beast with their design through and through.
Little League Baseball on the NES was good too, even though it's a SNES video, I still thought I'd bring it up
The big selling point when it came out out that it had all the real stadiums.
The commentator had a great voice with attitude. I also loved the contact noises at First Base. The game itself, had uncanny replay value; an attribute the sequels lacked.
I remember asking for the Winning Run version without realizing it wasn't actual players and was super pissed. I don't think you could change the names in that one. That said I kinda liked the music that RARE games had, including that one
Same. I still feel the first one was the best, but at least Rare did a good job with the music, like always. (DK, KI, BK,...)
had this game on snes one of the best baseball games from that era
I love the part if you're pitching a stop to do something else the batter would tap the screen with the bat
Lol Clyde the dog Is a good boy and a good dog he is lazy and wants bacon right now
Johnny Awesome fuck yes
Wish they would release a game today with the same controls and style. Needs online play. When two people who really know how to play this game compete VIA multiplayer, the games are so close and well balanced. Switch needs a baseball game just like this.
Super mega baseball 3 is absolutely amazing, it's the only baseball game I've played that's better than Griffey on snes
Grew up playing this game, never liked baseball but man did I love this game
The best 16bit Baseball game was World Series Baseball for Genesis💯
This was my childhood game I played every time I went to my grandmas house such great memories
Ah, man... The fact that you can change the players name is brilliant. That game made me buy the newspaper to have the boxscores so I could update all the teams. I still have that game, and still keep the rosters up to date.
I kept a baseball preview magazine from that season that I used to rename everyone.
My only complaint as a kid was that I felt the game was way too easy. Then again, I did play as the AWESOME WORLD SERIES CHAMPS the Toronto Blue Jays! No wonder! :D
Yeah, Blue Jays and White Sox were stacked that year.
