Dodge Viper GTS in Racing Games [Remake]

  • Yup, this is a remake video of something I already did, showing the Dodge Viper GTS in multiple racing games. With this series about to be 3 years old, I think a couple of remakes were safe to make.
In my earlier videos, I was being very particular about what games to include and how many, mainly to save time. Also, I had an idea to just show a small sample of games versus being a video encyclopedia of all of them. and I'm still technically not that, because there's certain games I don't think I want to ever play. That and I changed other things including the amount of footage I include per game and improved my overall video quality somewhat. Based on this, my old Viper video doesn't really match my current format on these videos.
All of those factors above are why this video was remade, plus there were some other games I have acquired since then that I wanted to record. With that said, I hope you enjoy. Remember, not every game is here. I don't think I ever am going to try going for that.
I have a Twitter if you want to follow me there: / guy17car
Just beware of the crazier users on there.
    Notes:
    - So, DT Racer was one of the worst racing games I played during my childhood and that's why I swore off not including it in this video. and I don't want to give DT Carnage a chance.
    - There's also games I excluded on the count of being cabin arcade games and emulating those while easy for others is a headache for me. Hence why you don't see many of those games on this channel.
    - In Test Drive 5 and 6, I noticed that the Viper had more accurate rear lights on TD5 than in 6, but Test Drive 6 has a more accurate front end. The car modelling in these games is inconsistent.
    - On both Test Drive 6 and Test Drive for the PS2, the stripes don't travel down to the front bumper.
    - The Forza games seemed to have used the same Viper GTS ACR model since FM2 and possible FM1, but just upgraded the graphical textures overtime. I mean, the model still looks pretty good for the most part except for the front bumper. It's a small thing, but the Viper in Forza has a flatter nose with an edge where's the real one is more curved on its front nose.
    - Also in Forza, they consistently gotten the stripes wrong. They look more like the stripes on the GTS-R Concept rather than a Viper GTS ACR. For reference, just look at this Viper GTS ACR picture and compare it to the Forza footage: cdn1.mecum.com/auctions/pa081...
    - The weird thing is that the Hennessey Viper in Forza Motorsport 2 has the correct stripes and a curved bumper. Yes, it's modified, but it's more correct. Which boggles my mind on why they didn't make those updates to the normal Viper GTS.
    - Gran Turismo's Viper models look of course look consistently good within each generation.
    - So, I learned from DarkPit (not the actual character) that the Hennessey Viper is also in Forza Motorsport 1. So even on this remake, I still miss something because of course I do.
    - With that said, I'll save it for another video, maybe on modified Vipers or something.

Crazy to think that Test Drive 4 and Gran Turismo's versions of the Viper looked so different. In TD4 it looks like a completely different car, but in GT, it does actually look right. Even if both games are from the same generation.
PS: Blue with white stripes is the quintessential Viper color scheme. Never understood why Dodge stopped making them in that color

That's because Polyphony Digital actually cared about accurate car models.

But you're right, Test Drive 6 had that red/yellow stripe color combination above and I Test Drive 5 had a silver/red stripes color option that doesn't exist in real life.
Alright, Drift City. I've heard about that game briefly on IGCD. It looked like a cheaply made game I would find on a phone app store. To note, looking on IGCD, that Viper looks like a SRT-10 Coupe, not a GTS.
As for Europe Racer, I think they made that Viper more like a RT/10 rather than a GTS despite what IGCD calls it. The roofline and rear end in general reflect the RT/10 more than the GTS, plus it has the RT/10's 3-spoke wheels. Which isn't much of an issue since the game isn't using licensed cars, they can get away with inaccuracies like that.
Gran Turismo 2 & 3 basically have the same gap between their stripes. Polyphony Digital is typically very accurate with the car models like that.

If so, how? Emulation only improves the visuals with up-scaling and cleaning up aliasing. but it doesn't automatically give a car model more polygons than what was there and makes textures more detailed. The only way that can be done is with modding the game itself, which I haven't.
