  • The days just keep on getting better, Welcome to the Falkland Islands (Isla Malvinas) We ended up booking a local tour operator through Princess to organise our trip around the island. As we only had the day, and with us wanting to explore Stanley, it meant we had a few hours to drive to the best spots on the island to find PENGUINS! And boy did we find some! This was also supposed to be a non windy day...so apologies for the sound.

    Those islands are called Malvinas, it is wrong to say "falklands", because that is the name that the settlers use.
    If you ask the inhabitants of those islands, they will say that they are British, but that is not really what matters, England invaded those islands, just as it tried to invade Buenos Aires, and could not.
    All countries in the world (except England, the United States) recognize that the Malvinas are Argentine.
    The question is very simple, England only wants them to be able to exercise control in the region, no Englishman is going to live in the Malvinas unless it is because they are paid, it is not a place where civilians want to live, it is an occupation regime and it serves to try to demand rights over Antarctica.
    This is doubly dangerous, not only because it increases geopolitical tensions, but also because Antarctica is an enormous natural reserve that both Chile and Argentina agreed to protect, but of course, the English are far away, the only thing they are interested in are the resources they they can extract, oil for example.
    We must not allow the English and North Americans to continue invading the world.
    Imperialism must disappear.
    The British pirates have military bases all over the planet, they are willing to commit whatever genocides are necessary in order to impoverish humanity.
    And why do they want to impoverish people?
    Because it is the only way for people to sell them their hours of life, their hours of work, in exchange for a few pieces of paper.
    The Greengos will be expelled as they were from South Africa, India and Bangladesh, they will be expelled from the Venezuelan essequibo, from Haiti, from Africa, they will be expelled from Palestine and also from the Malvinas.
    We defend democracy and freedom, England is a monarchy and its new world order is as retrograde as feudalism itself.

      The islands were called the Falklands in 1690, 126 years before Argentina was a thing. Maps from as early as 1702 show the islands with this British-given name.
      The inhabitants will say they are British, and they are. Britain has claimed the islands since 1594, and the current population is 27 years older than the modern Argentine state.
      Those are not the only countries that don't recognise Argentine imperialism on the islands, and it doesnt matter how many anyway. The islands are British and no one can do anything about it.
      The next part of your comment is gobbledygook that isn't worth addressing.
      The Esequibo region is Guyanese and Venezuela will suffer the same fate as Argentina in 1982 if they try anything.

    What part isn't clear in the 21st century that we still have to explain this?
    Argentina has claimed sovereignty over the Falkland Islands since they became part of its territory after independence in 1816, even having its own Argentine government during that period. However, in 1833, the islands were illegally invaded by the United Kingdom without the consent of the Argentine government of the time. This British action was deemed illegitimate by Argentina and the international community. Since then, Argentina has maintained its sovereign claim over the Falkland Islands, supported by international law prohibiting the acquisition of territory by force. Therefore, Argentina's claim is based on both history, geography, and legal principles emphasizing the illegitimacy of the British occupation and Argentina's territorial integrity.

    • @wmoule
      @wmoule Před 5 dny +1

      Britain claimed at least some of Falklands before Argentina was even existed as a country. Spain evacuated in 1811 and since then Britain claims all of the islands, again before Argentina was even a country.

    • @moder536
      @moder536 Před 5 dny +1

      @@wmoule It is essential to understand the historical truth about the Falkland Islands. Let me debunk some false beliefs and present you with a perspective based on irrefutable and unshakable facts.
      Being originally Spanish territory, France became the first nation to establish an illegal settlement, named Saint Louis, east of East Falkland. In 1765, England sent a colonizing expedition, entering a large port (formed by the islands Trinidad, Vigía, and northeast of East Falkland), which it named Port Egmont. Upon learning of the French occupation and Spain's subsequent claim, on April 2, 1767, France internationally recognized Spanish sovereignty and agreed to return the islands, with indemnification, to Luis Bougainville. Spain continued to administer the islands through Captain of Navy Felipe Ruiz Puente as governor of the Falkland Islands, with headquarters in Port Louis, later Puerto Soledad.
      By the end of 1769, despite the ongoing illegal presence of the English since 1765, and following orders from the Spanish crown, the governor of Buenos Aires, Francisco Bucarelli, dispatched a contingent of ships tasked with finding and expelling the English from the islands. This was achieved on June 10, 1770. Subsequently, a tough negotiation ensued between both nations, culminating in an agreement for England to return Fort George (Port Egmont) to Spain, with the understanding that Britain would voluntarily vacate the islands permanently. And so it happened. Britain had nothing to claim, much like France, which had left earlier. From then on, the Spanish flag in Puerto Soledad stood as the sole expression of sovereignty over the islands until February 13, 1811.
      During this period, twenty governors acted in the islands. However, Britain, pursuing the same objectives that led it to attempt the forcible capture of Buenos Aires in 1806 and 1807, was expelled. In 1811, there was no evacuation; only administrative personnel remained, as the garrison of Puerto Soledad was required from Montevideo (now Uruguay) to defend the monarchy due to the recently unleashed War of Independence.
      Amidst this conflict, the early patriotic governments of the United Provinces took various administrative actions regarding the Falkland Islands, considering them an integral part of their territory inherited from Spain by succession of states according to the uti possidetis juris of 1810, which was the first patriotic government before its total independence in 1816.
      By 1820, despite the internal struggles facing the new Argentine state, Argentine Navy Colonel David Jewett assumed his position in the Falkland Islands on behalf of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata and hoisted the Argentine flag for the first time in the islands. Although this may seem a minor detail, it was supported by Argentine international law. Jewett issued a proclamation informing of the archipelago's seizure by the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata and warned American and English whalers and fishermen that their activities were illegal and harmed local natural resources.
      Regarding the legal-political precedents supporting the claims of both countries over the Falkland Islands, it has been established that, from the perspective of international law, the legal recognition system prevailing in Europe in the 16th and 17th centuries granted claims to res nullius territories (unowned things) when they included the right of discovery, effective occupation, treaties or international agreements, and geographical proximity.
      These rights were implicitly recognized by England in the treaties of Utrecht in 1713 and San Lorenzo in 1790. Furthermore, London recognized the independence of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata, and in 1825, Britain did not manifest any claim to the Falkland Islands in the process of recognizing the Argentine state and signed a Treaty of Friendship, Commerce, and Navigation with Buenos Aires. Obviously, it could not pretend or achieve anything unless through another illegal occupation.
      For further details, the foundations of Argentine sovereignty were impeccably mentioned in the Decree of June 10, 1829, which created the Political and Military Command of the Falkland Islands. The Decree established that Spain had material possession and exercised full sovereignty over the Falkland Islands at the beginning of the emancipation process on May 25, 1810. It reaffirmed that Spanish possession of the islands was based on the right of first occupancy, the consent of the main European maritime powers, and the islands' proximity to the continent. Finally, it recalled that the Republic inherited all rights over the territories of the former metropolis and continued to exercise acts of dominion over them. From May 25, 1810, the patriotic government executed demonstrative acts of sovereignty related to the Falkland Islands. Just five days after the May Revolution of 1810, the First Assembly ordered the payment of owed salaries to former Falkland Islands commander Gerardo Bordas.
      The letter from General San Martín (the founding father and liberator of Argentina, Chile, and Peru) of August 1816 from Mendoza, requesting the transfer of detainees in the Falkland Islands to join the Army of the Andes, is an example of our heroes' certainty regarding sovereignty. They all knew it, not just international law. Today, ignorance and cynicism about continuing an illegal, hypocritical, and pirate activity reveal the mentality of certain nations' lack of culture in history. History and international law confirm Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. Therefore, the Falkland Islands will return to Argentina.

      @zigongosaurus5274 Před dnem

      Cool story bro. The first documented claim put on the islands was by the English voyager Richard Hawkins who landed there in 1594 and named it Hawkins Maiden Land. In 1690, John Strong, another English explorer, found the same islands and named them the Falklands. Maps from as early as 1702 show the islands with their British given name. Argentina wouldn't exist until 1816.

    • @zigongosaurus5274
      @zigongosaurus5274 Před dnem

      @@moder536The islands were NOT originally of Spanish sovereignty. The first documented claim on them was in 1594 by an Englishman. Spain didn't reach the islands at all until 1767, 173 years later, when they convinced the French to leave and seized the British settlement, but had to give it back after Britain threatened war. British troops left the islands in 1774 to focus on the American revolution, and Spain held the islands until 1811 when it left for similar reasons. Both countries left plaques asserting their claims.
      Argentina (which still wasnt really "Argentina" then) wouldn't exist until 1816 and only made one attempt in its own name to establish control over the Falklands, in 1832. It failed, with the ship mutinying. Luis Vernet, the man commonly used to tout the Argentine claim, was only ever on the islands because the BRITISH let him.
      Britain reasserted its original sovereignty in 1833 when it removed the mandate of Vernet, inviting settlers to stay. The current British population is therefore older than the modern stabilised state of Argentina which wouldn't be founded until 1860. Argentina dropped its claim in 1850 and wouldn't revive it until 1946, nearly a century later. Spain also dropped its claim in 1863 and has never brought it up again.
      After Argentina revived its claim, negotiations went nowhere. They were invited by the ICJ to argue their case for sovereignty and the "expulsion" of Argentine settlers from the islands (that never happened) and each time refused. And then in 1982, their fascist regime started a war to win popularity, basically plundering the islands, until they were soundly defeated.
      The population wants to remain British. The population that had been there longer than Argentina has been a centralised state, which roots that go back further than the country's entire existence. The Falklands are absolutely not Argentine, they never were, and they never will be. Cope.

      @moder536 Před 20 hodinami

      @@zigongosaurus5274 There is evidently a distortion of the history of the Falkland Islands in the previous message. The reality is that the islands were under Spanish sovereignty long before the alleged British claim in 1594. In 1520, members of Magellan's expedition sighted the Falkland Islands aboard the Spanish ship 'San Antonio'. Since then, the islands were included in Spanish colonial domains and recorded on European maps.
      It is important to highlight that Richard Hawkins' claim in 1594 was controversial and dismissed by numerous scholars. Hawkins was a privateer who confused the coasts of Patagonia with large islands, and his claims were not supported by other explorers or reflected in subsequent English maps.
      Furthermore, it is crucial to note that Hawkins was defeated by the Spanish fleet in 1595 and sentenced to prison for violating maritime immunity. Britain also committed not to trade or navigate to Spanish ports in the Indies, demonstrating recognition of Spanish sovereignty over the region.
      The British presence in the Falkland Islands, such as at Puerto Egmont in 1765, was illegal and provoked Spanish protests. Even after being expelled, Britain continued its attempts at illegal annexation, such as the attacks on Buenos Aires in 1806 and 1807, which were also repelled.
      In conclusion, the history of the Falkland Islands is marked by Spanish sovereignty since the sixteenth century. British attempts at illegal claims and attacks on Spanish territories are documented facts. It is essential to understand the complete history and recognize the errors in the narrative that seeks to justify Britain's illegitimate occupation of the islands.
      In addition to historical facts, the current reality supports Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. The international community recognizes Argentina's legitimate right to the islands and has urged both countries to resume negotiations to resolve the dispute peacefully and in accordance with international law.
      While the current population may have British roots, the history of the islands is intrinsically linked to Argentina. The geographical proximity, well-documented cultural ties during three centuries of the Viceroyalty and Argentina's decades after independence, and the aspiration for integration with the South American continent reinforce the natural bond between the Falkland Islands and Argentina.
      Furthermore, the principle of self-determination cannot be used as justification to perpetuate an illegal colonial occupation. The international community acknowledges the right of peoples to self-determination, but this principle cannot be applied in cases of illegal occupation or territorial dispossession, especially when dealing with an implanted population.
      In summary, history, current reality, and principles of international law support Argentine sovereignty over the Falkland Islands. Therefore, it is evident that the Falkland Islands will be Argentine.
