  • The Gerber Dime is a ubiquitous $20 multi-tool that you could easily find at your local Target or Walmart. It has a an array of common multi-tool tools and a couple distinctive features including a big bottle opener and an interesting sheepsfoot blade. In this video I cover my year of carrying it on my keychain and related to other EDC items such as my Victorinox SD, which is my go-to mini multitool. Tune in for my review of the various tools and how I think it fits in with a good EDC setup for your pockets.

I carry the Leatherman Squirt PS4, the pliers and scissors are every day handy. Also, white collar worker and the PS4 fits nicely in the coin pocket of my dress pants.

I've tried several including this tool and find the leatherman squirt superior. The combination of tools is much the same sans the bottle opener but I think this make the leatherman fit in the pocket better. EDC for me too, the pliers come in handy far more often than I would have expected.

I have this tool among others and just kinda carry what I feel like for the day, the weight isn't the problem for me, it's the bottle opener. Since it sticks out from the tool it can wear a hole in your pocket or worse yet stick into your leg when sitting down. I really like the package opener and wish more tools had one as too many times I've stuck myself with a knife trying to open something and the plastic finally give way.

I have been carrying mine for over a year to work or out and about in my pocket no problem. Like you, at home I carry either my wingman or wave. But for going out I've found the Dime to be indispensable!

I always carry my Swiss army knife with me, the "Waiter" model. Very simple design. I do however love a good multitool like the one in this video.
    Cheers and keep safe!

I just picked up my 20 Victorinox(I keep losing them). I got the Evolution 14. It’s perfect for my needs. It has 14 tools in it. Fits it the pocket without a problem. I’m going to order a leather case when they are back in stock. They do have a nice nylon case too. The Gerber Dime is great to have in the car or a drawer too if you don’t like caring it around.

Carry mine in my 5th pocket at work. l work in a gun range and removing stuck cases is a daily occurrence. The little hook blade is prefect for removing them. But that stupid bottle open stuck on the end has to go.
I only carry it at work and it cost me $10. It's a crap Gerber and l expect nothing from it.

I have the squirt ps4, dime, style ps and the style ps I like the most out of all for having a good tool set, light, and can bring it anywhere. Also carry the Victorinox rambler in the pocket too

I carry a Leatherman style ps on my keys. It’s a little more expensive than the dime (35 dollars), but better build quality imho. It has an integrated carabiner/bottle opener, and it’s lighter than the dime. No knife or plastic opener, but it does have tweezers.

I bought a Dime based on your recommendation, and can say it's become a favorite of my EDC ... very useful tool, that's always with me!

I really dislike the metal used in the Victorinox blades. I’ve always found them hard to sharpen and hold an edge. The thinness is hard to beat, but loses the day to utility. I do wish my leatherman squirt or whatever had the toothpick.

I find the Classic's blade a lot more slicy. The Dime's blade is thicker, which can be considered good - I don't like it.
    And the scissors...
Yeah, you can complain about that spring on the Vic, but if it breaks or gets weaker, you can get a replacement spring for 10 cents in some shops or have it replaced by Vic.
And in the performance, the Vic scissors are a whole lot better!
When I need pecision (e.g. cutting out a shape from paper), the Dime's scissors are so thick that I can hardly see what I'm doing. With the Classic I can work much more precisely.
The Vic also a lot sharper. For a straight cut through paper, I don't even need to move the scissors, I can basically push it through. That doesn't work with the Dime.
And try cutting paracord with both. The Dime has no chance, the Vic easily cuts it. See my "first impressions" video:
    czcams.com/video/n_6YtfpOJFo/video.html
Overall, I like the Dime, the pliers came in handy a few times already, and I like the bottle opener.
But I would like it better with some changes:
The too thick blade and the scissors could be dropped (I like to have scissors but if they are worse than on my key chain Classic, I don't need them).
The screw drivers should be made stronger, or dropped. (I bent the "large" driver on my Dime with not too heavy use in my opinion.)
This way I would have a lighter tool with less but usable functions.

I carry an sd on my keys and wouldn’t be without it, as a multi tool I’ve got a leatherman surge and it ways a tonne. The little Gerber could be an option. Cool video.

Good review. So many CZcams reviews rubbished the Dime. "Oh, the pliers broke, the cutters don't work etc." The Dime was designed for very light work. For its intended use, the Dime ticks most of the boxes. Excuse the online shopping, there's only one store in my suburban area that sells the Dime, Bunnings $21AU, only one store that sells the Victorinox, $31AU Anaconda (member's discount). The other stores that I've visited have Leatherman. The cheapest Leatherman in a store is the PS4 Squirt at $104AU. Nothing against Leatherman as I own one. I also have nothing against online shopping. But when it comes to tools, I rather go to a brick and mortar shop, and feel the tool in my hands. Value for money, in my situation, you can buy 5 (math is wrong here) Dimes. Put one in the car, one in carrying bags, one by the computer desk, one in the work shed, one in the tackle box etc. PS Bunnings have a return policy. If an item is faulty, they will refund or replace the item. No questions asked, as long as the receipt is produced. That's better than online shopping, where you have to pay the return postage, and wait for the refund or replacement item.
