Understanding the role of interferons in preventing viral infections

EPI member Megan Stanifer, Ph.D., and a team of faculty and students from the University of Florida investigate novel hypotheses about the unique protective functions of different interferons. Interferons are a group of signaling proteins that alert host cells of the presence of pathogens. By understanding the difference between the types of interferons, the Stanifer Lab aims to improve current methods for viral infection prevention and therapeutic treatment development.
