Thinner plectrums are the answer- especially for Fran's strumming style. I have quite a hefty strum and always snapped strings until i started to use thinner plectrums
I have both strong ones and thing ones -but the thin ones have a better tone - usually it's the D string anway that breaks first - at least on my guitar ;)
