In Africa we eat sorghum and millet daily. It’s a staple food
Millet messes up your thyroid
Teff, Fonio, and sorghum are the best. Millet not so good
I just looked up the health benefits of sorghum. Its really good for your health.
Is sorghum grown in Africa?? Or what country grow Sorghum grain???
Is there ORGANIC SORGUM GRAIN FARMERS
in our UNITED STATES OF AMERICA ???
@@cathyjennings5580Yes, sorghum is grown in the USA, possibly in Maryland (but I don't remember for sure; if I can find the video in my YT history, I'll update this comment with a URL). I've seen a video on CZcams about this in the last day or so.
Sorghum porridge in Tunisia is like oat porridge or grain pudding in Britain or "Müsli" in Germany.
It's even sold as street food, topped with sugar, nuts, maybe cake and honey in some places.
Sorghum used to be the staple food in most parts of India until 1930~1940. Later Wheat and White Rice took it over. Since then people stated gaing wieght, diabetics and other health issues. Now with lots of Health issues people are going back to Sorghum and Millets. My grandpa used to tell me that White Rice was consumed only on festivels and on special events. Hardly 10 to 15 times a year those days. Sorghum was their everyday food with various Vegetable curries as most India do not prefer to eat meat on daily basis due to religious reasons.
So good and very interesting to know! Thanks!
In India we eat millets and sorghum is one of those! It’s been eaten for centuries!!
Sorghum is a Tunisian seed we grew up eating it in breakfast with ginger powder and sesame halva,in Ramadan we make it for our guests as a cream with hazelnut ❤🇹🇳🇹🇳🇹🇳🇹🇳
That sounds good❤
@bluenebulosa: Sorghum is not a Tunisian seed, it originated from eastern Africa and was domesticated by the early population of the now Ethiopia and Sudan, and partly also found later in Egypt. It first of all spread throughout eastern Africa before the rest of Africa both towards the horn and the wieder sub-saharan part of Africa.
@@Amapesas we do have a different specie of sorghum i saw a video the one that we have big a corse grey grain
With Regards, by watching one of your previous videos1 found sorghum flour from our local Naural food store. Since I am suffering from fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. I am trying to stay away from gluten now I am using sorghum flour to make crepes. Taste amazing. Thank you so much for providing all theses great information Dr Gundry 🙏🇨🇦
It feels like the more important message you got it’s all the products you have for sale and promote..
In Somalia we used to eat every other night and we call it MASAGO❤ however since I came to UK I stopped now I saw many drs talking about it as I am into healthy food so now I RE-STARTED FOR RAMADAN AS I AM LOW IN IRON SO THIS IS GREAT❤ BACK IN SOMALIA I WAS NEVER LOW IN IRON AND FULL OF ENEGERY. No wonder why I am always tired and low Iron so THIS MAKES SENSE😮

In Somalia we call masago it’s growing our farmers also it’s growing around or behind houses we love it 🇸🇴🇸🇴
I already ordered Sorghum flour from Amazon to try it in my new diet of NO lectins, thanks to the Dr. advise.
In large hog growing areas, sorghum is the best feed choice. Mexico imports a large part of the Texas crop. The crop yield for sorghum is about 80% of corn. But in arid conditions it preforms well. Texas and Kansas produce about 300 million bushels. When used to make ethanol the distillers grain makes a high protein feed.
I just ate a small bowl of sorghum this morning for breakfast and my blood sugar soared to 147😳 I didn’t add sugar, but did add a small amount of heavy cream and small amount of butter and cinnamon and nuts. I would love to search for other recipes.
skip the fat I'd say, @Peter Rogers and Dr J McDougall would not agree with the fat or oil. If fat is in the way, the carbs can't get into the cells ! add cinnamon and fruit, not nuts.
Hi Dr G ..Thank you for sharing this👍
Hooked on millet now. Finaly tried it ... good rice is to expensive ... waffle mix sounds great.
Poor people in India from rural parts have been eating sorghum (jowar) rotis for centuries.
Sorry dear, even the rich eat Sorghum in India. Jowar or Jonna was a staple diet until we spoiled our farmers providing unlimited water and electricity free of cost to produce wheat and paddy. I wonder which part of India you come from ?
And then we got caught up I. Western pharma propaganda & stopped eating ghee, millet...
Yup even in Pakistan now even though back in days it was all India but they ate from juwar flour and they were so healthy, I only came across it about 7 years ago and have had it afew times here in UK but it's very hard to make roti out of it lol
@@akhan6778 If you look up jowar chilla, there are tons of recipes. They are much easier to make. Actual rotis are a little tricky.
@@kutrabilada8865 ah ok thanks, il look it up 👍🏼😊
I tried it today it blow my mind thank you
Sorghum is medium high in oxalate content, which can be as damaging as lectins. I wish Dr. Gundry would review both oxalate and lectin content when discussing diet choices. You can learn all about oxalates from Sally K. Norton, an amazing nutrition expert.
Her 2023 book is great
Lol he gave us something else to eat and you want to take it right away huh ? Smh
@@Draziell I have just started to read it 👍
@@treyellis1236 Don't look at it that way. You can eat some sorghum if you longing for bread and aren't sensitive to oxalates. I have had kidney stones and also have IBS and arthritis so I really must be careful what I eat.
@Anna Maria I'm not I was really just joking, but I was looking at it like finally some kind of grain made the list. Because all of us aren't trying to lose weight and grains or filling, so I was more pleasantly surprised then anything.
In southern India, we have been consuming this millets from many generations.
We call it Jonna rotte.
We could also make the same rotte with pearl millets with few extra sesame seeds.
We call them sadda rotte.
Try these along with your regular diet and get healthy
Make sure you don't make sadda rotte everyday, once in a while is ok.
Fun part is we don't need even a drop of oil to cook them in its entire process.
WESTERN WORLD JUST WOKE UP TO THIS 😂
No
Jonna rotte
Jolada rotti
It makes amazing mini popcorn
I did a sorghum flaxseed sourdough bread, it's delicious with sesame seeds too
Wow, do you have a recipe?
I eat that same recipe everyday
In Eritrea, We eat sorghum always.

@@justanley73 😂 no but he belongs to a generation that grew up without computers and cell phones.
Our very dear Dr Gundry, Sorghum known as ‘jvaar’ or ‘jowar’ in Hindi language has been a very popular and much used in grain flour mostly in rural North India but has recently taken almost center-stage as the grain of choice and replacement of wheat flour for home-made ‘roti’ in rice-loving South India too
Can you do a video on teff grain cereal? Tastes way better then sorghum in my opinion!
Hey Dr. Gundry have you ever spoken of hemp hearts? 1/4 cup 10 g of protein with Leucine and Omega 3's.
Dr. Gundry, Isn't sorghum related to corn? I have serious reaction to corn and many other grains. Probably due to lectins but I've stayed away from sorghum. Do you think I can eat sorghum? Or millet?
My grandparents grew sorghum on their farm. Most of the surrounding farmers grew sorghum as well. I don't know why they stopped.
Governments subsidized corn and soy, small farms couldn't compete with large agri-corps. This began in the late 70s. We lost a family farm, it makes me so sad to think of it. But that's the bigger picture that led to the loss of the family farms. from Canada (where the subsidies are for wheat and canola and dairy oh, and poultry)
I put about an 1/8-1/4 of a cup into a brown paper lunch bag, fold it and microwave it just like popcorn. Super easy and works great
regular sorghum grain?
@@Oilofmercy yes, super easy
Thanks for sharing your method of popping sorghum. Will try it tonight for movie time.
In Australia it's not common I can only find wheatbix cereal from Sorghum so happy to find it
Please can supply you from Ghana
Fantastic news. Now I can get something other than Millet to try out. Thank you for sharing this information with us.
Sorghum flour makes delicious pancakes. Use coconut cream and egg yolks, cook in coconut oil. They'll be fluffy and sweet.
Can you provide the details of the ratio of each ingredients? I am interested in trying this recipe. Thanks indeed

Me too
Use a whole egg... white's alone are not nutritious... do you study again....
I think sorghum is not known well because of the area it needs to grow in. best sorghum is grown in arid regions. if you compare US sorghum to South African sorghum for example you will find the South African version is much more dense and thus much more concentrated.
Thank you Dr gundry
Dr. Gundry is Sorghum high or low in Phytic Acid?
Dr Gundry ..How do you prepare sorghum and millet ? Is it supposed to be soaked ? Can you make a video on preparation processes ?
Search on Google or CZcams "how do i make kunu Zaki" it's a tribal hausa drink over here in Nigeria, it's made from millet, sorghum, tigernut, rice, peanuts e.t.c these are also different types of "kunu" drinks.
I think you're promoting a genetically modified food.
"In 2009, the Africa Biofortified Sorghum (ABS) consortium developed genetically transgenic sorghums with improved nutritional quality (Biosorghum, 2010)." From NIH
OK, Dr. Gundry ... I have a question that has nothing to do with Sorghum but I'm not sure how else to ask ... I see a lot of talk about Walnut oil and its benefits. What's your take?
And, by the by, after viewing this video I have ordered some Sorghum and am looking forward to trying it in our kitchen.
Walnuts are a really good source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Eating raw walnuts would be better, but to each their own.

I am using sorghum and millet but I have a question. Is it ok to use masa harissa as it has been processed in lime water?
May I ask are the 45 grams per serving of sorghum spaghetti good carbs. That seems rather high. Thank you.
Doc help me to understand the Carbs on Sorghum at 36gram for one serving? I know that this is complex carbohydrate BUT, don't we still have to watch our daily carb in-take?
No mention of the mollasis you can make with sorghum stalks ? Not to mention you feed it all to the cattle after processing the sugars
Glad to see that the good doctor is promoting grain, instead of his usual snake oil.
What about hulled barley, is this bad for you?
What is Sorghum glycemic index. I couldn't find one on the web.
There was 70 which is high...
I understand sorghum and millet lack lectins… but aren’t they high in phytic acid?
I would suggest soaking and then cooking the grains to lessen the phytase. Or ferment the grains in kefir.
I will try to replace oats which I like with sorghum
Thank you.
I love your voice, I understand very clear.
Thank you soo much.
What are the defense mechanisms of sorghum and ?
dr what do you think about the blood type diet of dadamo? he also refers to the lectin in foods
thank you
Long before Gundry caught on likely fed off the other Drs book it seems on this topic no doubt
Sorry way to high in carbs at 72 grams per 100 grams of sorghum.
Yeah, talk about a sugar bomb!
Hallo, don‘t forget he is talking about a flour out of a grain, This grain is very healthy but still a carbohydrate and you have to wacht out how much you eat and the time you eat it because we can stil gaining weight . At day time you can run your items and burn it out . Replace others flours with sorghum.
That’s why I use it in sourdough bread. Fermentation is the key to high carbohydrate foods.
You can sorghum popcorn in Indian grocery stores?
THIS IS INSANE: in DAVE ASPREY NEW BOOK ( smarter not harder) HE HAS LISTED SORGHUM AS HIGHLY LECTINE CONTAINED!!! wtf is going on????? CAN ANYONE HELP????
Is sorghum glycemic not too high ?
What is the difference between millet and sorghum? I am german and the translation unfortunatly is the exact same word 🫤
Does anyone know if sorghum increases or decreases DHT?

How do I make bread with sorghum flour?
Wonder if grains could be pressure cooked in original form to remove lectins before forming them into the mixture that is then ground into a batter and finally leavened before popping it into the oven?
No, lectins cannot be pressure cooked out of grains.
Actually lectins often are inactive after pressure cooking at high temperature. Dr. Gundry is the source.
I love Somali pancake, which is made out of sorghum flour
He must own a sorghum farm.
too many commercials in one video

Can you eat sorghum raw?
This is off topic but I really need help with this, Dr. G... Can I have regular pistachios or do I have to buy organic? I can't afford organic so I need to know if I have to eliminate them or not. I just started your diet... I'm starting from being bedridden... would appreciate the help. Thank you.
Google 'organic pistachios worth it' and you'll see they do have a higher pesticide load along with a few others.

Just wash and soak in water for 10 minutes to get rid of the pesticides.
@@bahaar2825 Thanks!
I'm in a similar situation (poor), and depends on where you live. In Canada, we have a store called the Bulk Barn, and their raw pistachios (not in the shell, and really fresh) are cheaper than the ones at the grocery stores. Not organic, but will still save you cost if you have that option.
Dr Gundry. Super, but sorghum is loaded with carbs. Doesn't carbs matter anymore?
Yes and high oxalates as well.
Dr. Rick Johnson, made tests, experiments, studys with mices ( not like the other that write books and have " Zero experiments" ) other write books to sell supplements from China..like this idiot Dr gundry ! old man who say he a Doctor ! money hungry old man ! go retired !~

Sadly this Dr & many other CZcamsrs do not even bother to look at the comments or reply to them. They just want them to improve their bottom line!
He said first we must run from graines and now he recomend it , I dont understand anymore
He just find less dangerous grains because he knows that many find it hard to avoid bread and such for long term . But still beware if have already severe health problems full of oxalates.
Grew up on sorghum biscuits and sorghum molasses. Molasses was not sweet at all. So as a kid I had to pretend it was or not eat.
You’re just learning about Sorghum ?, you’re late to the train doc. Google and You Tube it.
What about kafirin (prolamine - lectin)? Read the book, trying to eat good food, but found out that there also might be lectin...)
I ate some sorghum the other night I’ve been eating a lot of millet lately just due to the fact I’m not tryna to spend much money on food and I’ve bought a lot of it whenever I was working on the road and I wanted to switch it up because I have a lot of barnyard miller and I have a few bags of sorghum millet and the next day I realized that my poop still had the sorghum seeds lol something like corn whenever your digest it but I’m not sure how that happens lol

My sister told me about sorghum 50 years ago after feeding it to her horse.
Dr.Gundry, isn’t ok to eat Sorghum uncooked, mix with my cereal ?
Sorghum also makes molasses.
Thank uuuu
Don't they feed sorghum to horses? I think I remember this from watching old Western movies, LOL!
It is in almost all dry dog food!
Sorghum is good, but it takes a long time to pressure cook. I don't ever see it taking off like other grains because of the cook time. Everyone likes fast and convenient.
Can you review teff?
Running out of topics , Gundry ? Sorghum ?! Almost made me laugh
It would have been better to see a list of all benefits appearing on the screen.
Eating the very same thing every single day develops a specific allergic reaction in the body after a few years. Nature created seasons for a reason. Change things up every few months. Barley is a great grain and also millet.
Dr. Gundry could become the George Washington Carver of sorghum by promoting the soil-management aspects of this crop.
Here in el Salvador you can get 1kg for 1 dollar and they use it for feed the chickens. Only me use it for cooking human food
