  • This beginner's woodworking video shows you how to build a small DIY bench to use as a step stool, a child's chair, or for improvised seating; great heirloom gift for kids, and you can add their initials so there's no fighting over each other's benches when it's teeth-brushing time.
Skills you'll learn: Using a jig saw, sanding, using a Japanese style pull saw, injecting human foibles into heirloom projects, drilling, making your own milk paint, painting with a shaving brush.
As always, "Anything I Can Do" Host Mag Ruffman makes the mistakes so you don't have to.

I made one of these benches for my sister in law, she uses it as a plant stand. So easy to make and my sister in law loved it. FYI Home Depot has 1 X 12 rough pine and it is perfect for this project.

Oh! She was in the Anne of Green Gables movie(s). That's why she looks so familiar.
She is much older now. This program must have been 20 plus years ago.
Love her personality just the same!

Fun as always, though wouldn't the sides be stronger with horizontal grain? And much less likely to split...?

What a breath of fresh air. I’m watching in Sept. 2020 with Covid 19, race riots in several cities, and nasty election year politics. Your gorgeous smile, sweet voice, and beautiful personality are a perfect ray of sunshine!

I enjoy your story telling. Wife says that your really good at explaining how to do it. She and I liked your off the wall jokes, and also the part of safety glasses being more dangerous as they do seem to distort your vision. When drilling and nailing, use you vise... right? We both enjoyed the rustic look and how you did it.

I didn't care for the theatrical production just to make a $30 bench, but I will give her credit for using a hammer well.
