- 8 Reasons To AVOID The 2024 Chrysler Pacifica!
Hold up before you order that 2024 Chrysler Pacifica. Current owners have a lot to say about their experiences. Here are 8 eye-opening reasons they suggest you might want to shop around for a different family van.
Unreliable transmission
The Pacifica's nine-speed automatic transmission usually does the job, but it's not without its quirks. On steep hills, it can get mixed up, picking a gear too high or low for the situation. And if you're using adaptive cruise control, slowing down might come with some alarming noises, like screeching and grinding that make you think the transmission's about to give out.
But that's not all. Some folks have had issues with the transmission jerking around, refusing to shift gears, or hitting them too hard. These problems are well-known, but Chrysler doesn't seem to have a handle on fixing them. It's no surprise then that the Pacifica often feels more like you're driving a lumber truck.
There's also been cases where the transmission completely fails. The car locks itself in park, won't budge, the brakes jam up, and you can't shift gears or even turn the steering wheel.
What's really troubling is how fast these issues pop up. There are Pacificas with just 42k miles, still under warranty, facing these transmission failures. One owner reported that in 130 weeks of owning their Pacifica, it spent 7 weeks in the shop. That's a lot of downtime for a pretty new car, don’t you think?
Battery and charging issues
Many owners of the 2022 or 2023 Pacifica Hybrid have raised multiple concerns regarding its battery pack and hybrid system. Given that no significant updates have been announced, the 2024 Pacifica Hybrid is likely to be essentially identical to its predecessors from 2 or 3 years ago, suggesting that these problems are still there. So, let’s delve deeper into the specifics.
The Pacifica Hybrid features a 3.6-liter V6 engine coupled with two electric motors and a 16.0-kWh lithium-ion battery, delivering a total output of 260 horsepower. Despite this setup, the Pacifica's 0 to 60 mph acceleration time is a modest 7.8 seconds, and it lacks an all-wheel-drive option, being available only in front-wheel drive.
So, performance-wise, the hybrid's power and braking are considered average for its category, and that is not all because a lot of Pacifica Hybrid owners have reported a lot of reliability issues with the hybrid system.
There are instances of battery failure and engine stalling every few miles. These owners would have to pull over on the side of the road, wait a few minutes, restart the engine, go another 20 miles and then repeat, so they could get home safe. We’re talking about cars that are under warranty here. And, despite being serviced, the issues resurfaced 4 to 5 months later, and the service centers appeared to be at a loss for solutions.
Moreover, several other owners reported problems with the charging system within months of purchase. Dealerships were often ill-equipped and unable to address these issues, leaving owners desperate and without a car.
Apparently, Chrysler issued multiple recalls for the Pacifica Hybrid’s battery back due to fire risk. The affected owners were instructed to avoid parking their cars near buildings and to only drive them in non-hybrid mode until the battery was changed. To make things even worse, Chrysler didn't keep owners in the loop about how long they'd have to wait for the battery replacement. Some owners reported waiting for as long as eight months.
In some other cases, the vehicle's computer detected a fault with the hybrid battery, causing the car to shut down unexpectedly. Frustrations peaked for another owner who, facing long service wait times and a completely depleted battery, opted to replace the batteries at their own expense after just 7,000 miles.
In addition to the battery issues, the Pacifica's got some trouble with its gas tank sensor. It's been giving false readings, showing the tank as full when it's not. There's also been cases of fuel spitting back out during fill-ups, and the gas tank button acting up. Dealerships seem to be scratching their heads on how to fix these problems effectively to this day.

my 2019 pacifica hybrid's infotainment system is a disaster, dvd/usb control is randomly available, have to turn off car entirely 30 mins to have a chance to restart it
So you basically took video clips from a bunch of different CZcamsrs and didn't give them credit. Also, there is a huge difference in reliability between the Hybrid Pacifica and the regular gas version. The Hybrid has had issues with the battery. The gas version obviously doesn't have this issue. Lots of people own this car and love it. The Sienna rides like total crap. It struggles with a car full of people or going on an incline. The inside isn't nice either. Pacifica is much nicer in every way.
I have a 2022 Limited. No problems so far.
We can only tell you about our 2021 (non-hybrid) Pacifica AWD lease, after 3 years and 61,200 miles, mostly on back roads. The only issues we have noted are (1) the steering creaks on startup, while backing/turning out of driveway in cold CT weather, and (2) the transmission just started to intermittently remain in a lower gear momentarily, before returning to normal drive (at 61k miles).
Other than these two minor issues, we have had no other issues and really love the comfortable ride, roomy (4' x 8') cargo handling ability, sporty feeling steering, and internal quietness. So much, that we are currently in the process of leasing another (2024) Pacifica. This time it will be a hybrid, so we can save on significantly improved gas mileage,
We can only hope that all the issues mentioned in this video do not truly represent what can be expected of the 2024 Pacificas.
We now own a 2023 Pacifica which we do enjoy however the transmission does not shift properly and we are told by the dealership that Chrysler is working on updating the software and that they the service department cannot find anything wrong with the transmission . However I have become aware that transmission issues with the Pacifica is nothing new . What can I do if my new van is not running properly but I am not able to find anyone working for Chrysler to fix it.
sell the car while you can. Made a mistake by not doing it. after 5 years your transmission will go down and your warranty expired. not just transmission but coolant will leak and the techs in dealership will never know. ChryslerCares is the worst. I am giving you the best advice just sell it
they sell 60000 to 70000 of these a year I see them constantly and yes there are some issues however there are plenty of satisfied owners...
Glad mines is running well after 2 years , bought it used w/64 k.. I would not be saying this.. I own Toyota but if your talking power and storage no competition.. I would bet money some of these faults would be negligible customer… this guy is trying pretty hard sienna vs Pacifica or Voyager like night and day with their magical 4 cylinder engines😂. I love 4 cylinders but not on vans no.. I get 26/28 highway.. 245 hp vs 287hp with 87 grade
You failed to mention ANOTHER Major issue with this pile of crap car (I've had one since 2021). The Auto Stop Start system. The warning light comes on continuously telling you the system is unavailable. Dealer service and repair shops have no idea how to fix. So they replace both batteries, which only keeps the problem away for a couple weeks, then it's back again. I could write a 10,000 word essay on why to NEVER buy this vehicle, but i need to take mine BACK to the service center tomorrow so i don't have time. Worst headache of a vehicle in history.
I have all this issues in my car 2021 hybrid 😂
DO NOT BUY A CHRYSLER PACIFICA> I have a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid I was on the freeway and shut down completely, very dangerous situation, the engine service light come on, it has been in the Chrysler shop for a moth, now they are going to replace the transmission. This happened after a week of purchasing the vehicle.
Same situation on our 2022 Pacifica. It turned off twice while driving down the road. The first time the dealership replaced the battery module, and the second time they replaced the transmission.
Shit that happen to me last week with my 14000 mile Ford Maverick. 2023.
I ended up renting this minivan for two days.
So going to sell my Maverick and I want a minivan. But I wont buy a pacifica
I love my Chrysler Pacifica...the only issue I have had is the UConnect system that has gone on the fritz so now I need a new radio
Happened to my 2019 11 months after getting it, but it was in warranty and they replaced it.
Same with my 2018
I have a 23 Hybrid Pacifica and the UConnect issue is annoying, but not horrible. When it stops playing, shut it off and restart it and press Play. There is a legal firm that is lining up clients for this issue, and I have been in contact with them, but I'll hold off doing anything as yet due to the locality of the hearing(s) - Michigan or Delaware. Otherwise the vehicle has been good so far with great handling and I am saving a lot on gas with filling up once in 35 - 43 days. The electric bill has gone up $30/mo. to recharge it daily.
And this is based on what? No sources or very vague. No stats, just accusations, no value
Stop taking it to the dealership... They replace all sensors with old ones or Chinese parts. Also if you buy something that's $60k why let someone else fix it.... That's like giving your wife to the next guy so he can fix her.
I am only renting a hybrid Pacifica while my 2019 gas Pacifica is in the shop from an accident, so I can’t speak to the Hybrid.
I love my 2019 gas Pacifica. Unless the 2024 has changed how the Adaptive Cruise Control is used, this stuff about it being difficult to turn on or unreliable is complete baloney. On the 2023 rental, it is the exact same operation. Yes, you have two different buttons, adaptive cruise control or regular cruise control. To say this “doesn’t make sense” is a pretty nonsense statement. Why wouldn’t you have two different buttons? Some people like ACC, while others prefer normal CC.
Talks about forums being “full of” unhappy people complaining are fallacy arguments. They don’t take into account that manufacturer forums are pretty much always full of complaints. People who are satisfied rarely go into forums like this. Questions and complaints are the primary function of such forums.
This whole video seems like little more than someone who dislikes this vehicle for their own reasons, then filled 10 minutes of confirmation bias into a video.
Yeah I'm going Sienna.
Good luck trying to get your hands on one! That's why some buy the Pacifica...
Rebate for the Pacifica. 13k under msrp. Could not get any price release with the Siena
Sienna’s drive like shit so have fun being stuck at the bottom of hills and having a shitty interior.
Review talks hybrid with little gas model! I have a 2023 Pacifica with no problems! This is a one sided review with no facts but his opinion!
Honda has unreliable transmission too.
Shame on you, Chrysler! Discontinuing the Caravan and giving the Voyager name to this horrible piece of plastic crap! I want to see a revised Caravan for 2025. The Caravan with its pentastar hood ornament and pentastar V6 engine block IS classic!
THE BEST MINIVAN IS THE PACIFICA.!!!
