Will this Classic Oldsmobile Starfire Run after being Tucked Away for 24 Years :Part 1

  • Hey everyone! This was a fun one, bringing a 1962 Oldsmobile Starfire back to life after sitting for as long as I have been alive! This is my Uncle's car, so I have been around it my entire life. It does run exceptionally well, we just need to get the brakes straightened out and it's time for a drive! Although Shawn tried to rebuild the master cylinder, it is just in too bad of shape. Really hope you all enjoyed this revival! Thanks as always for the continued support!

    394 fire breathing cubic inches of Rocket Oldsmobile. About 345 HP and 4 zillion ft.lbs. of torque. What a beautiful example of a 1962 Starfire. My all time favorite sports/luxury car. I drag raced a couple of 1950 Olds' back in the '60's. My Holiday had a 394 in it and was the big surprise for many so called muscle cars.

    Oh my god those were beautiful cars! A friend of mine had one back in the early 70's when I was in high school! I Had a black 1960 Olds 88 convertible with a red silver and white interior and white top! It was dechromed, lowered and had fender skirts on it ! He used to outrun me all of the time!

    Those Starfires had some pretty neat interior features. For example, above the glovebox door was a panel with the Starfire script. This was edge lit by the dash lights circuit, so when you turned on the lights at night, the panel would glow and provide your passenger with a luminous advertisement of what car they were riding in!

    This is a special car, a large V8 powered 2-door hardtop American car, with tons of torque and a smooth ride.
    Bucket seats, console, floor shift auto. Not the average family car. A full-size muscle car.
    Service the hell out of it. Shocks, tires, front disc brakes. Looks like a keeper to save.
    Put in a dual-type master cylinder and system for safety.

    I remember back when that slab-sided 62 style came out, I was just a kid but I thought they were nice looking cars. GM abandoned Oldsmo and Pontiac fins like they were diseased, and shoved all that fin into 1960 Buicks and Caddys and turned them sideways on Chevys. As the 60's wore on Oldsmos got a little more piggish every year. Killer condition on that car, remarkable.

    • @mexicanspec
      @mexicanspec Před 3 lety +1

      It always seemed to me with the 1959 models, the the more the car cost the more upright the fins were. The Chevy had horizontal fins. The Buick had diagonal fins and the Cadillac had the most upright.

    That ol Starfire had some nice torque. A guy had it parked at stop n go back in the day and we’re looking at it, he says come here I want to show you something. So he’s starting it up, starts given er gas and he goes look at the body shift up and down. And that’s how I learned something about torque.

The convertible I bought in 1971. I really did like these old cars and I would squall the tires every chance I got. Good luck on the restore. Thanks for the tip about the reverse thread lug nuts. I didn't know about this and would have probably struggled with it.
