    I'm open to new products, but this is a complete non-starter for me because the handlebar has no fore-aft adjustment. This is completely unacceptable to a cyclist and especially since the bike is not its first iteration and costs so much. I think they get away with this cost-saving design, because a lot of Peloton riders do not ride road bikes, and do not appreciate that increasing the distance between the saddle and handlebar by sliding the seat back, is not equivalent to moving the handlebar forwards.
    Ray, I'm glad you mention when you buy stuff to review it. It makes it much more credible, and for that I think this channel is the most trusted on the internet when it comes to product reviews.

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  Před 3 lety +2

      Yeah, the lack of handlebar fore/aft has always been a bit of a weird quirk. It's not a perfect fit, though, it's not too bad because of the seat/handlebar posts slide up at a angle, so you can use that slightly to ones advantage.

    Thank you for explaining peleton for me and for the great content (I've been binge watching past few day's) you put out. Also the answers you have provided to my question's.

    Couple of comments - I had my OG bike since March and just traded up to the Bike +. I too had an issue at first getting my Apple Watch to work, then I powered my watch off and on and it's been rock solid ever since - connects every time. You'll know when it's connected, at first it was just bringing up "workouts" - but it should ask you to confirm the connection to the bike on the watch, that's when it's connected.
    My other comment - I LOVE the new power system and auto resistance. I also like the way they implemented it - if I'm out of range and they change the range during the ride, I prefer to be bounced back to the range (high or low, depending on where I am) - I don't always ride higher, so that's not a huge issue for me and when I do ride higher I don't generally want it higher for the entire ride. One other thin I noticed, it seems to know where you are in the range as a percent, not an absolute number. For example - if the range is 30 to 40 and I'm at 33, if the range moves to 40 to 50, it will move me to 43, but if the range moves to 35 to 40, it doesn't move me 3 points above 35, it will move me to like 36 or 37.
    Sorry - one other comment - I've noticed with the new power structure it all seems smoother - for instance my cadence stays more stable now instead of bouncing all up and down. I do think the new power system and calibration is the actual HUGE improvement.

    They need to form a relationship with a zwift competitor so you can ride in a virtual setting as well as take classes. Or even better merge the two. It would be cool to ride in a virtual world but have a person in a video in the corner guiding you through a workout, acting like a coach, or acting like a team director giving you instructions over race radio.

    Do you know if the seat post is identical to prior models? I have a 2014 Peloton and when I test rode Peloton +, I noticed significant give in the seat post. The person at the store commented that the bike was not well balanced which caused the seat post lack of firmness. I am tall and have post at 40 setting. • @asiantrick24
      @asiantrick24 Před 3 lety +2

      I have both, Peloton is definitely more fun and interactive imo. But if you're someone that have a strict training plan and can motivate yourself, zwift is a better and cheaper alternative. I no longer race, and only ride bike to maintain the Dad bod, Peloton works better for winter training. I ended up sold my smart trainer and kept the peloton, plus my wife can use it as well.

  • @jmb6g
    @jmb6g Před 3 lety +1

    Since they now have accurate power, a large screen, and I suppose a fast computer, there is no reason Peloton couldn't implement Zwift like functionality. They could probably by RGT for a minimal amount. They could certainly do something like FulGaz or Rouvy.

I am debating getting the Peloton Bike + but the price tag and then being committed to Peloton subscription for years thereafter to justify it is a tad scary. Especially now with the Apple Fitness+ release. Do you have any other smart bike suggestions/alternatives you would suggest looking into? DC Rainmaker I’ve noticed one thing riding today. It says its disconnected or it pauses, but then it starts when the actual class starts. When you connect the watch in the beginning of the class the timer doesn’t actually start until the instructor starts the class. So during the time when they’re giving instructions it seems the watch isn’t working, or that it’s a bug, but right when the class starts it kicks in.

    TY for this review. I recently cancelled my upgrade. I have alot of concerns about Peloton - been an owner for over 2.5 years, 6 bike swaps, compensated 2 years additional warranty for free, 7 months of subscription service for free. I reached out yesterday and I am hoping I get senior-level call back this week to talk through my account. I heavily use the spin bike and use the app for strength work as "gym noise" since I do my own routine. I got my ROI - I doubt Peloton made any money on me. I can't upgrade until I know or have assurance that a bike upgrade will reduce the support churn for me. As of yesterday, the bearings on my still covered warranty bike#6 are starting to go. So yeah I am concerned this is a great upgrade that would come with all of the issues I've experienced. TY for this. I can refer to this when I have that conversation this week.

I bought mine in March, so I was super annoyed that the bike+ came out so soon after. I won't upgrade for a while... nice to see that they finally did away with peloton logo as a sticker. Very odd choice for a premium bike, I thought.

    Hope this comment can be answered. I used to cycle on a regular basis approximately 25 years ago. I graduated from toe clips to Look pedals. I'm getting back into shape. I've already lost 61 pounds. I do not mind the cleat style pedals. However, my wife does not like them whatsoever. I was told i could purchase the toe clips from them for around $35. How hard is it to change them between her and I? Are they durable and easy to change out? Do the pedals or Allen screws ever get loose or stripped? Thank you in advance.

      @Talierau3 Před 3 lety

      that’s up to you! We’ve had our bike for 2 years and we traded in. Since the original bike is now more affordable, the resale value of our bike has decreased which is why we decided to upgrade. That’s really the only reason we decided to upgrade though. The added features are a nice addition but isn’t what drew us to trade in

    • @Dcrainmaker
      @Dcrainmaker  Před 3 lety +1

      No, the new monitor is USB-C powered, and connected to the resistance unit using USB-C as well, whereas the old monitor/bike uses totally different wiring. However, you can at least upgrade the swivel part of you want: topformdesign.com/product/pivot/

    Would really like to see a review of the Keiser M3i from you.

    • @bengt_axle
      @bengt_axle Před 3 lety

      I have ridden the M3i and M3 almost every other day for the past few years (except during the pandemic). It is an excellent bike, and the bike I recommend over all others. Completely silent, superior adjustability and ergonomics, good power meter accuracy and you can sprint to over 1000W. For someone thinking about Peloton, I would say buy a Keiser instead and use an Ipad. You won't have all the social media controls, but you will still see the instructor, pay less per month and have a far superior bike. There's also a bluetooth coupler available that sends the power and cadence to apps like Zwift. It is the one bike where both fitness spinners and cyclists will be comfortable and happy. However, there's obviously no sim mode, so you have to change resistance yourself.

      @@bengt_axle Thank you for your reply. As a 'real world' cyclist, I ride almost exclusively a mountain bike anymore, I was more interested in the straightforward appeal of the Keiser, and thought it more a good fit for home exercise especially during the inclement winter months that are soon approaching. The only issue keeping me from ordering one was the price, and certainly in the long run it seems less expensive than the Peloton. I agree with you that an iPad would also be more in line with my lack of needing the full blown Peloton social interaction, which of course I think a lot of the Peloton users enjoy. Thanks again for your response.

    • @bengt_axle
      @bengt_axle Před 3 lety +2

      @@MrWinger1951 Be sure to check the latest prices. I think both bikes are the same price now, and Keiser is made in the USA. I'm very confident that you could go years - perhaps even 10 - without any expensive repairs or maintenance on a Keiser. They also have good smartphone apps (own and GoInd). I don't work for the company or have any connection with them! Just a happy user.

      @@bengt_axle Yes, the Keiser seems to be very well built and I have no doubts it would be maintenance free, another plus for the Keiser. Seems I remember in the past that Keiser occasionally has a 'on sale' reduced price near the end of the year around Christmas.

    • @bengt_axle
      @bengt_axle Před 3 lety

      @@shar935 yes. The old m3 is quite bad. The new m3i has a different mechanism ( but same head unit) and when properly calibrated is quite good, even though it uses a power curve as you state. I think these bikes can be recalibrated as well, if needed. I believe Stages is one of the few spin bikes (built on an NXT platform, apparently) with a real strain gauge power meter and road handlebars. Tops for a road cyclist, but is not in the same price range as Peloton and Keiser.

      I don't think it wobbles more than the existing screen does per se, however, the screen is simply bigger, so it's amplified slightly more. If that makes sense...
