Drone video shows Santa Rosa homes destroyed by California wildfires

- Drone footage filmed on Monday (September 28) showed the extent of damage done by wildfires that have engulfed northern California.
Video shows several houses burned to the ground on Mountain Hawk Drive near the small city of Santa Rosa. Two homes remained unscathed despite those around them burning down.
The wildfire in northern California's Napa Valley wine country more than quadrupled in size overnight to some 11,000 acres (4,450 hectares), burning homes and vineyards and forcing officials to order thousands of residents to evacuate.
Since Aug. 15, fires in the state have killed 26 people and destroyed more than 7,000 structures. Climate change has contributed to wildfires' growing intensity, scientists say.
Early on Monday, new evacuation orders were issued in Sonoma and Napa counties, including parts of the cities of Santa Rosa and St. Helena.
The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning through to the end of Monday, forecasting low humidity and gusts of wind up to 55 miles per hour (89 km per hour) through certain canyons. The fire also prompted evacuation of the 151-bed Adventist Health St. Helena hospital on Sunday for a second time in recent weeks after lightning-sparked blazes swept through the area in August.

Ugh. I dont even know where to start this comment....dont even know whats up or down anymore... or...just ugh. I am a Santa Rosan...this is the first time seeing the actual damage on my area since I and my family have been evacuated. This breaks my heart.....for everyone. xoxo. Skyhawk....Annadel....is my neighborhood. My families neighborhood.....So many of OUR neighborhoods. This is all just absolutely crazy. Wtf is happening to our world.....honestly. TO ALL my STRONG fellow Sonoma County neighbors near and far....may you ALL be safe.....and strong.....and know......We have each others backs. "Sonoma Strong!"

Tragic footage, rebuilding California should look at the Australian building codes for fire areas. Eg non combustible metal roofing, rain gutters, cladding, windows, metal flyscreens, insulation.
Back in the old days expensive buildings, castles had copper roofing.

Stephen Clark in Australian bushfire zones, the windows are aluminium. Roofing mostly corrugated iron. Walls brick or fibre cement board. We still lose some homes from ember attack, radiant heat and fire storms. But many more homes survive.
Here is what I do not get or understand.... I am a resident of Santa Rosa and had been evacuated. How is it a Houston station get this kind of footage and none of the local stations can not or would not show? With so many people wanting to know if they had a home to go back to. It is disappointing to see how this happens.
The Houston station probably paid the photographer for the footage, whereas the Bay Area stations passed.

Bradley Bossche A lot of these houses burn down due to spot fires, because a spot fire lands and starts a new fire. The trees are spread out in this area making it hard for the fire to climb up them. The grass is short so there is less heat.

We aren't Angwin, but in older neighborhood next to skyhawk- we aren't home either! goin nuts trying to search online everywhere (did that in tubbs too), to find info , like more than skyhawk? hubby has brain cancer and its being super tiring on him (we r in dixon - other places all booked).. I wish you much luck of your home, so sorry you and us all keep going through this fire stuff. Born here and never had so many fires growing up - stay safe and I hope you get info of Angwin

Is your place ok? our st looks ok except tons of ash and burnt stuff blew around house & the top of our st fire burned to folks' backyards so hills here are char- we just got back from evac (fri afternoon) and some folks we know in los alamos area did lose their places. and some homes gone further up Montecito and calisistoga rd .. we will drive around soon ~ stay safe, and my thoughts your way , April
