I worked an elderly and neglected Herbert turret lathe as an apprentice in the seventies, when I started I was told that it was a scrapper but I loved that machine. I have worked and owned hundreds of machines since but that one was my first love.
Very nice Lathe strong , and good casting bed HAS DOBLE PRISMA , you no need CNC Lathe ,this machine has more universal way to turning parts . Bay from CANADA.

Served my time on one of these in the 80s.
Herbert lathes were excellent machine tools . It’s a shame that it all belongs to the past .

Quite a machine I have used lathes over a number of years but nothing like this one

That was a bunch of nothing. I guess they just told him to move all the controls and make it move around.

Is that big steel bar on top of the headstock only for extra tailstock rigidity or does it serve another purpose?
yes its called the heavy duty support bar that inserts into 2 of the turret arms
what is powering the movements of the saddle and turret at the beginning? None of the shafts are turning without the spindle.
