    Guy,
Not sure if you ever read these things, but between bird feeding, terrorizing the world with spiders, and your sometimes double sunglasses of doubt, you still somehow manage to muster your superpowers of educating and inspiring us in ways that truly matter.
For all of your work, seemingly boundless energy, and willingness to share what’s tossing around in that often hilarious head of yours, I want to simply thank you and let you know that you and your refreshing talent and efforts matter to so many people - me being only one amongst the rest.
Thank you so much for making the world of music a more approachable, informative, and for more enjoyable place to be!
    All my best!

Really enjoyable. Thank you. There was plenty of 'stuff' there that could be channeled into another direction for another project. Parent and child analogy. The reason I watched with my wife was to show her a potentially new direction for her life after a serious stroke which has left her paralyzed on the left side. She has all the basics. Good piano, vocal and musical theory skills which can be used again via software and a midi controller. I started her on OMD, then to Depeche Mode and now to you. Now to buy a simple controller and software that is inexpensive since we're now down to social security. But if she can write a good travel commercial we could be on the way to earning just enough for the city.

Here's what I'm getting from this: the power of perseverance. I don't mean this as disrespectful at all, but when I heard Guy build the beginning of this idea I just didn't like it. But as he added stuff, it really started sounding good. I need to persevere more with my ideas before saying, 'nah that's rubbish'.

I find a lot of the time, when i go to write a song. I hit a point early on in the writing where I am questioning if I even like what im working on. In the past i would usually decide no and scrap it. What i have been doing recently is following through. I like to think of it as the atmosphere of songwriting. Blast off is always exciting and motivating, but i often hit that upper atmosphere and hit tons of resistance and turbulence. Almost like my brain knows hard work is on the way. I have found if i push past that resistance and do the work, it often leads to my best pieces of work. I wish i realized this years ago, so maybe this will be a lightbulb for another fellow musician :)

I listened to all sorts of music as a kid, rock to orchestral. Wound up playing in a rock band at first but went on to doing top 40 rock/pop/country/blues well you get the picture. Wound up in the last 20 years of my career doing Old time Gospel music in a country/blue grass mode. Now I'm somewhat retired other than my youtube channel and I'm enjoying trying to write instrumental music in, shall we say, an orchestral mode. I'm so glad I found you. You do exactly what I'm learning to do. I arranged in many styles in my studio because we had all sorts of customers and I specialized in vocals and harmonies. I'm now enjoying just writing what comes to me without having to please anyone but me lol! Thank you for your inspiration! You do a wonderful job of making things interesting as you teach. Oh, and it's OK to talk to your instruments!! I find some of mine behave very well, but others? Some of them can be real rascals lol!

so many layers and musical information in less than three minutes. A much slower build-up of section A and also giving the last section time to grow into cresendo over a longer period of time. Such a song can easily last five minutes with more subtle changes. But fantastic to see and hear it come to life from a blank page.

The biggest brake for developing ideas are the endless possibilities we have nowadays with all the plugins and sounds, loops and effects in my opinion. Its nice to see you going straight through all your stuff an pick two or three presets that will do the job. You can loose yourself so easy with searching the perfect match in this state.

I am still baffled that there is a large majority of the world who still thinks the rest of us don't know that they do all the same fool things at at home that we all do. Just look at all the people with glasses. lol Sorry to rant. I enjoy these kinds of videos, it has inspired me to purchase a few tools to start writing myself. I'm 57 and have always held back because I need to be a little better on guitar and Truth is I didn't need to be great to write. It's really going to be fun this time. The fact that so many of you are putting it out there with "how to" videos and leading the way it's a great time to be alive. So, Thanks and I really am just trying to load the software and it's crazy because I don't know if I'm doing it right or not. I'm not even sure what DAW came with this package. Abelton Live LIght and a few of the Amplitude's 4 and 5. I'm going to get me a little keyboard And I'm not really a pianist but I do enjoy tickling the plastic and some easy chord progressions I can handle which will give me a little fill from the Guitar and Vocals. And I love most all kinds of music and anyway, thanks to all of you who put it out there for us non Trailblazers.

Guy, I've been discovering your channel. I recently upgraded my setup learned a new DAW (Cubase) and released a Christmas album (late by the way) and... I haven't had an drop of inspiration since...until I started watching your channel and seeing your creative process. It helped me see some ways of kickstarting my music making again. Thank you very much for releasing this content. (by the way, if that was music for a cruise line advert, it was far better than most cruise line adverts I have heard :) )

Guy Michelmore: Well we can't do that for 3 minutes, obviously

The second you wrote that intro piece, I was singing "Elvis In Vegas" by Meat Loaf through the entire video lol

Hello. I'm from Greece and you'll still be your channel. Thank you very much through my heart for all the information so important that I can, too, a little through your channel. You're an amazing man and information is invaluable. I promise I'll keep watching you because through the channel I'm learning a lot of important things.
As you may have understood my English is not so good and I use a translator. Anyway, thank you again

Always delightful and informative to see genius at work. And the people who write music for cruise line advertisements should feel suitably chastened.

5:51 F Quintal. It's really beneficial to think of stuff like that as stacked 5ths cause it starts leading you to the pentatonic, which you can use as a go between for all the keys that may use it.

Thanks, Guy, for reassuring me (and many others, I suspect) that the clunky, sometimes haphazard way I go about composition, is actually the way it's done. Haha! You have a vastly deeper toolbox than I, and a wonderfully masterful touch on those keys, but inspiration ensues nonetheless. And I am all the more grateful for your generosity in sharing. :)
