to my understanding it's from your perspective. So the object rotates for you and then you record that side that you can see, which is why the right side ends up on the left because you rotated the object to the left to see the right side. Whereas with 3rd angle the you are moving instead of the object. I know you've probably already learnt this in the 4 years since you posted this comment.

This is correct. You might have mistaken this with the third angle projection.
