    This was, in my opinion, the best show that Elvis put on in his career. At least that I have seen! - It seems, looking back on the videos of later concerts, that he was physically just slowly go downhill from there. What a difference in four short years from THIS HISTORIC SHOW to the CBS Special in June of 1977 (which took "out takes' from at least three different performances to make) where he was in such bad of shape. Some of his friends said in various interviews after Elvis' death that he could hardly make through a show. He even had to READ the lyrics of the song "My Way," one that he had performed hundreds of times. - He always gave so much of himself! - SO VERY SAD!

    The biggest entertainer the world has ever known, so sad that Parker would never allow him to perform outside the states for fear of been illegal. (Yes Parker was an illegal alien until the latter part of his life) and no, he was not a Colonel.

      @depaola63 Před 5 lety +9

      EXACTLY !!! FAKE ASS evil doer !! I LOVE ELVIS ( I was 14 when he just may have faked his death to get RID of that devil Parker !! ) .. Or Elvis indeed " sold his soul " in 1956 to the fake " Col. Parker " for just 19 years of fame and all that goes with it ???!! Elvis' own MAMA didn't like Parker and " E " should have said later Tom in 1960 when he came back from the army at 25, in the PRIME of his life !!! ( " Now or Never " IS ELVIS' BEST VOCAL performance In my opinion ! just HEAR his POWER, like a LION !! ( and gone just 17 years later? ).... ....I have 56 of his LP's in MINT shape !! I hope Elvis got the last laugh, and is as happy as he made all of us !!

    After he finished singing he was literally spent. In 1956 about his sensation of being on stage, he said:'it's like a surge of electricity going through you, it's almost like making love, but it's even sronger than that...... sometimes I think my heart is going to explode' (reported by P. Guralnick in Careless love)

    The first live satellite transmission was 'Our World' in 1967. This included a number of performers including the Beatles and various singers and artists giving a performance from a number of countries.
    Elvis was the first performer to perform a one man satellite show in January 1973. Elvis gave six shows in Hawaii, altogether. Three in November 1957, one in November 1972 and two in January 1973. For such a popular performer Elvis never ceased to find work. Being involved in films there is reference to the 'come back' - he was never really away. But strangely in the so called 'come back' period, Elvis' first return show in July '69 wasn't filmed, neither his first outside Las Vegas -The Houston Astrodome '70 or New York - June '72 or any in between. A one time opportunity missed, what a real shame.

    I have heard different stories as to who got the belt and cape?!
    I read that he threw them into the audience during the rehearsal show to different stories where Ed Parker’s wife has the belt and the cape was thrown to someone in the Memphis Mafia.
    Can anyone fill in the blanks here?

    • @devinw5150
      @devinw5150 Před 6 lety +3

      I don’t know who actually caught the cape but I did read that it was returned and is in the museum now along with the belt

    • @spencerharris1559
      @spencerharris1559 Před 5 lety +4

      Starlite Karaoke As much as Elvis took care of the Memphis Mafia I don’t think he threw it to one of them because why would that make much sense? I think he gave both the belt and cape to random fans whoever caught them.

      If u remember the man that played in Hawaii-5-0, Jack Lord, his wife caught the belt. I know that for a fact. Don't know who ended up catching the cape, but both items are back at Graceland. I've been there many times myself.

      Here is the fact that I read :
      Aloha Belt History:
      The original Aloha Belt (American Eagle Belt) was created by Elvis' longtime costume designer Bill Belew to be worn with the iconic American Eagle jumpsuit during the Aloha from Hawaii television special in 1973.
      During the live concert, Elvis took the belt off and gave it to a lucky concertgoer. He then had a second belt made to wear with the American Eagle jumpsuit in Las Vegas later that month. After one of the Las Vegas shows, he gave that belt to his karate instructor Ed Parker, and then had a third belt made which still resides in the Graceland archives.

      @dessy844 Před rokem

      @@mickeyrhodes2152 the belt that was in Marie Lord's possession was a different belt. . Here is the story when The Lord's met and saw Elvis in Las Vegas, and Elvis gave Marie the belt:
      On the last evening, Jack and Marie were in Elvis' dressing room when they had previously seen Presley's fantastic array of handmade costumes on one wall and, lining the other, hangers full of custom-made jeweled belts like the hi-huggers that Elvis wore over each of his jumpsuits.
      One of those they had seen had been a special belt that did not match any outfit. Elvis had explained that this costume designer had spent years making this particular one, though it didn't go with any of his outfits, but he always carried it with him because he loved it so. 'It was an unbelievable thing', Marie said, 'all embroidered with coral and jade and turquoise and amethyst'.
      Anyway, on their last night when the Lords walked into Presley's dressing room, Elvis stood up and in his hand, he had the special belt which he now held out to Marie. She began to protest, but Elvis cut her short. He explained that he couldn't wear it because it scratched him, and he even showed where there was a gash on his hand. But the Lords knew that Presley was just saying that as Marie had personally seen a girl at the last show grab for Elvis' hand and then bite it in her enthusiastic joy at being so close to her idol. But Elvis wouldn't take no for an answer. Marie now has that very special Elvis Presley jeweled hi-hugger framed on black velvet and it hangs in a special place of honor in the Lord's home.
