This historic amusement park is home to the legendary Cyclone wooden coaster and in this video we experience this absolutely fantastic ride. Along with that we check out many of the other rides at Luna Park including Thunderbolt, Steeplechase and many more. We also check out the new additions to Luna Park including a family coaster and a water ride, both with awesome lighting at night!

It's New York, always very expensive there.
Unfortunately, that's very normal for boardwalk parks. Most boardwalk parks are far too expensive. I'm from Pennsylvania, and we go to the beach each summer, but we don't ride boardwalk rides. Instead, we visit Knoebels after our beach vacation because it's so much more affordable and, really, a fun park

Thanks for another great vlog both! For such an Iconic park it's such a Shane that the customer service is so poor, they should be honoured to be working there in my opinion! The Cyclone looks incredible and such a long layout, I do think it needs the runner lights around the track to highlight it more though.

Some of the comments you shared from the associates made me a little sick. I work in Customer service and to treat anyone like that, especially those that are filming to show the general public what this park is about.

Great video, I remember 2 years ago at Santa Cruz where me and my mum rode the woodie there and the airtime was some of the craziest I've ever experienced. It was so good I thought I was going to get thrown off the ride, only time I've ever been scared on a coaster 😅

Im so tired of the trope, "its New York, what do you expect?" I live near Detroit, MI. I wish they had something like Coney Island. They do have an amazing riverfront and things to do in summer and winter. Detroiters are awesome. Please visit if you get a chance! People who have never been think its a terrible place, until they actually go there

I totally agree with you’re statements about the poor customer service at this park, when me and my family went in 2022 one of the operators on The Cyclone were quite literally shouting at the guests to “Sit down!” As if they were misbehaving children at a school

Never ridden the Coney Island cyclone but have ridden clones of it over the years. Always one of my favorite wooden coaster layouts.
It’s such a great ride. The layout is amazing and the size of the drops is surprising for an older ride!

I already told you as I am from there with cost and all that goes with it including the NY attitude!! Welcome to the city area to you both!! Yup, night and day!! Not saying all as many awesome people in the city! Just not enough to go around. The generation coming up soon all over, hang on tight!! Going to be a bumpy ride in America though I am still very proud of my country!! Just lots of speed bumps these days!! LOTS in all states!! Glad you had a great time!

Have to say regarding the "rudeness", it is NYC and it is absolutely not uncommon for folks to be indifferent (been several times to visit friends and family) it's kind of an interesting stereotype. Addressing the prices, everything is very expensive in NY also not uncommon. Have a great trip!

back in the sixties and it scared the heck out of them.
At least they still have the Iconic Tower.
I wish steeplechase hadn't closed, but I wonder if it could have been

As someone who works for Merlin, it would be off with our heads if our managers found out from guest feedback we were being rude lazy and ignorant. I honestly don’t understand how those staff members even still have a job if they are being rude lazy sitting around doing nothing and clearly don’t want to be there

Aw what a bummer the staff wasn't that friendly :( Its a bucket iist place for people to go, me included, and you hope for nice ride operators. Cylone's seats looks amazing, from a bygone era! Loved seeing the park and beach, day and night :) .

What a nice park. I heard that Luna Park was supposed to have a Zamperla Big WaveZ, but was delayed and later cancelled due to COVID-19. So Jeddah City Walk was the first and only park to have a Zamperla Big WaveZ.

Hey guys! I was wondering what shop you found that awesome pillow of a Cyclone train. I collect things like that and would love to purchase one! The last time we visited Coney Island was way back in 2000 for an ACE event. Due to health issues and finances we don’t plan on visiting anytime soon. Thanks for sharing your adventure fire at this historical park!

Great vlog as usual, you two! I don't comment often, but I've watched you for years. In my view, what you do is essentially the same as people like Anthony Bourdain, except you're independent and don't have some TV network footing the bills and calling the shots. I guess, to some people, it's only a "job" if you have someone else signing your paycheck and telling you what to do. Don't let people like that get you down. Most of us can only dream of being our own boss and doing what we love, and you should be proud of everything you've accomplished. Anyone who says otherwise is just jealous and bitter.

Wow that looks like a really quirky park and area. Seems like it would be really confusing to customers as to what rides are included and which park is which. The setting on the beach and with NY city in the back drop does seem amazing if the park was run better.

Thanks for the great video! Coney island will always be historic and iconic, but I think you need to go to the Jersey shores for a better boardwalk/ pier experience. Wildwood and Ocean city NJ have some good rides and still has that very authentic family attraction vibe/ friendly attitudes. You guys should definitely check them out.

You both REALLY need to visit the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and ride the (100 YEAR OLD) Giant Dipper coaster!! It’s in beautiful California, the weather is great, it’s on a beach with WAVES (surfing right there!), the Giant Dipper is 10X BETTER than the Cyclone…….and everyone’s happy because it’s California!! 😀😎👍

My immediate suspicion whenever it’s a park wide issue with customer service is they probably don’t pay very well. It’s hard to feel chipper or try and go the extra mile when you’re making minimum wage for what’s clearly a pretty difficult job.

Can you get unlimited rides on the Cyclone with the Extraordinary Wristband or do you have to pay per ride each time on Cyclone?

We came to visit in 2019.....sadly it was early April time and the park wasnt open. It was still nice having a nathans hotdog and stroll on the beach. The subway down was a ride in its self lol!🤣
I’ve done the subway ride down here before and it was an interesting experience 🤣
The Cyclone is owned by the City of New York Parks Department. Luna Park manages and operates it. GCI refurbished it a few years ago and kind of ruined it from what it was. It used to beat you up a bit…which was part of the character of the ride. Now it’s tame. And customer service? It’s New York, consider yourself lucky they don’t swear and yell at you. They used to yell at you on the Cyclone (again, part of the “charm” and the operators used to allow rerides if you handed them $6 in cash while still being on the ride. You could change seats, too.

Not sure I could have got on Thunderbolt after seeing how competent the staff were, none of them looked like they had a clue and were just smacking it, not sure I would risk it, that was scarey to watch.

I just finished watching a documentary on the history of Luna Par, Dreamland etc and they were a lot more
open and interesting in the old days.
I get that we are a more litigative society, but there is something to be said for the time when prices were cheap
and rides were big and rugged and downright scary.

Shawn, I thought your description of Thunderbolt in 2019 was perfect, shopping trolly the ride. It really does feel like a shopping cart attached to a roller coaster track.

24:00 There was actually another Coney Island amusement park in Cincinnati, Ohio from the 1880s, but the New York Coney Island is more famous. It was a famous theme park before Kings Island was built and most rides were removed in the 1970s, but not all. I was very fortunate enough to visit that in June 2017, but the amusement park rides were removed in 2019 and the whole park permanently closed in December 2023. There was a famous swimming pool and water park there. Several protestors shows up to protest to prevent the water park from being closed for good and an online petition was started which I signed, but everyone who opposed closing the park forever failed. Coney Island Luna Park looks a lot like Coney Island Cincinnati.

As a kid in the 70s in LA I saw a little rascals episode called playing hookey and they showed a roller coaster and I thought it was cyclone in coney Island moved to NYC in 84 and finally got to ride the coaster in 84 and thought I rode coaster from TV show . Only last year did I find out little rascals filmed in LA and coaster was pikes peak in long Beach. Which closed a long time ago . Same as Santa Monica coaster from its a mad mad world also gone . Also in Annie hall they say cuclone but coaster was thunderbolt and in 84 it was abandoned With ivy growing on it took years to remove . WELCOME TO NEW YORK NOW GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE . It’s odd that Zamperla doesn’t operate Luna Park as a demonstration park of their wears, like Mack Rides has done with Europa Park.

Odd to think Zamperla doesn’t allow filming on these rides when they manufactured them yet it can be done safely at parks that have Zamperlas & do allow on-ride filming. Basically the opposite of Europa Park owned by Mack with most rides manufactured by them

The Thunderbolt is named after the second Iconic Coney Island woodie The Thunderbolt that operated from 1825 until 1982 and stood SBNO until 2000 when against the owners wishes and everyone who tries to save the coaster it was demolished. Such a shame and it looked an even better coaster than the Cyclone!

Wow!! U drove from Farmingdale to Coney Island in one day?! We live in Queens and haven't been to Coney since 2017 and Adventureland since 2008! We drove past Adventureland on our way home from St Charles Cemetery and it too an 90 min just to get to northern Queens! Adventureland looked empty.. we saw Chik Fil A on Rt 110. Never had it before. Gotta try it! Luna Park used to be $29 for 4 hours! Not worth the money they want now. I rather save the money for Busch Gardens and Six Flags Great Adventure this summer. Luna Park sucks. I preferred Astroland. At least it had charm. You have to try Morey Piers in Wildwood NJ! That place has old school charm! Wildwood is a blast and you get a taste of Americana from the 50's . Alot of doo wop motels.

@ThemeParkWorldwide definitely do Morey Piers. The Wildwoods and the surrounding areas are representative of what America once was and what it should be today! I suggest going July-August to truly get the feel of it! Keep up the great work!
The Cyclone is on my top tier of wooden coasters, especially now that since its re-opening in 2022 Coaster at Playland in Vancouver (which originally opened in 1958) has violently automatically retracting seatbelts that replace a "scary" experience with one that is actually more likely to result in pain. Worse: those seatbelts ruin the ops more than they ruin the ride because operators must check each one. (Cedar Fair has seatbelts, but they're not violently retracting, nor are they the responsibility of the operators, and if you don't like them you can either adjust them or disconnect them completely). I guess the only coasters left with single position lap bars are Phoenix at Knoebles and Classic Coaster at the Puyallup St. fair in a suburb of Seattle Wa which uses trains that were used on the coaster that pre-dated the aforementioned Coaster at Playland in Vancouver. There were actually TWO coasters at the PNE grounds in Vancouver built BEFORE "Coaster"; the 1st was built before the WW1; it was replaced by the 2nd built in the 20's that lasted until the late 40s. Single bench trains that were used for that coaster are now still being used at "Classic Coaster at the Puyallup fair, which opened in the 1930's. Fun fact: King George LOVED the 2nd (of three) wooden coaster of Vancouver so much he rode it multiple times.
But I digress: The Cyclone is the only coaster I shed tears of joy after my 1st back car ride other than Steel Vengeance; so forceful yet fun; so smooth. I knew it was a wonderful ride and never had to leave a ride I traveled so far for after so few ride; 3; 1st somewhere in the middle car; 2nd in the front row and 3rd in row 10 in the back car NOT over a wheel seat, ending my visit to Luna park, and I got off with tears of joy and sadness I had to leave so early, as I only had 2 hours in the park as I was bing put up by my elderly aunt in Brooklyn for a night in between SFGA N.J. and my flight the next day to Chicago fro SFGA ILL. It also exists in a place where the scents remind me of the 70s when we'd visit my maternal grandparents every other summer who retired on the Jersey coast; we were raised in Vancouver and had to travel.
I could wax poetic all nigh long, but I'll just end by saying: Steel Vengeance and The Cyclone are the only two coasters I was moved to tears of joy and appreciation form my 1st back car ride. Also: I haven't ridden The Voyage or visited Asia yet; I've ridden Ghostrider and El Toro and the latter was a little rough in 2022. They're contenders for my favourite wooden coasters I've ridden, but neither have single position lap bars. Thanks for posting; let it be know how great The Cylcone is and that there is no better Cyclone cloned/coaster with the word "Cyclone" in it (except perhaps Wicked Cyclone, which I haven't ridden yet.) Thanks for posting!
