I feel this. I had to put it down for a few days. I felt like the story gifted me complimentary PTSD after finishing the golden age arc. I understand why it happened to give Gut’s justification of hatred toward Griffith, but I still think they did her dirty.
I’m so glad you caught this. She was smitten with him. If anything we can assume she wanted to gift her virginity to Griffith when he got his kingdom. This might be tmi but sex for women is so emotional. Beyond what you’ve ever read or heard. When women truly give their bodies to men they trust , it’s like giving someone your literal heart, like a piece of you you’ll never get back. Griffith …. Likely wanted it from her. He was so pained , he was so fixated that it was likely something of a reward. So when guts not only took it , but accepted it FROM HER , it likely added to his pain. Everyone thinks Griffith is evil but…. Honestly…. The way casca acts during the eclipse is almost like she can’t handle a sort of betrayal. Guts had beautiful love with her, something she only thought Griffith could give her. It must have torn him apart. It’s weird to think of but I think Griffith genuinely loved them both. Not like traditional polyamory, but like the real Griffith, really couldn’t decide who he loves. A man , or a woman. He could easily be with them both sexually. But it seems like more than that.
Casca’s story progression from beginning to latest chapter is one marked by suffering, perseverance, loyalty, love, loss of self and heartbreak. Almost parallel to the things Guts experienced which is why they go so well together. Hated to see what happened to her, Guts, and the Band of the Falcon (per the Japanese translation) during and after the Eclipse. Casca’s life is one of the saddest in Berserk and Miura captured that in a beautiful way.
It's such a shame that we know more about Farnese's childhood and family than we do Casca's family. Miura should've given us a Casca origin instead of that damn boat arc.
@@edwardgaines6561 I’m not upset at it tbh. Yeah it would’ve been great to see more of her origin story yet I’m kinda glad we don’t at the same time. Besides, Miura gave us just enough clues already to piece it together so I’m satisfied.

No wonder she was broken after that. Being raped was bad enough, but it was done in front of her beaten, helpless boyfriend and her rapist was the person she used to worship and spent a good part of her life fighting and bleeding for that man. "B..but...but she didn't resist! She must've enjoyed it otherwise she would've fight Griffith or try harder to escape!" She passed out from fighting those demons and next thing she knew she was stripped naked, had no idea where she was, and her boyfriend was fucking dying in front of her. There was a lot for Casca to digest, and as you mentioned, the Brand basically kept her incapacitated. The only reason she didn't scream in agony louder or try harder to resist is because even Miura knew those panels were already hard to read as they were. Not to mention, it was Griffith who saved her from a rapist is now a rapist himself, Casca must've been heartbroken that she lost any will to fight in that moment of weakness and immense pain.

I love Casca. Most of the time women in these type of stories don’t come across as believable. These days they just make them “strong” women with few if any weaknesses. For example, if some leftiest author of the current era was writing this when ever Guts first fought Casca they would probably have had it close or equal instead of the reality of that fight. But Casca is different. She’s heroic and her fighting skills and bravery are actually believable. And her weaknesses are so understandable. I hope she gets some Justice.
Not sure why you had to bring politics into this 🙄😒 the fact is that even in today's world of sjw's and well meaning "feminists", especially feminist men, there is an extremely deeply ingrained misogyny resulting from literally thousands of years of degradation of women. This makes it difficult to write women, going too far in one direction or another - either making them weak shallow damsels or writing them as basically men in a woman's body. It's similar to the phenomenon of women, or especially young girls, going through a "not like other girls" phase due to their internalized misogyny. They are rejecting the vapid, shallow, weak image of womanhood we've all had ingrained in us, and it's psychologically confusing so rather than embracing true feminine strength, they try to become more masculine. Rejecting traditionally feminine stereotypes. It's all very psychological, and has nothing to do with "lefties" or whatever. We just have a long way to go as a species to truly be rid of our misogyny. Berserk is a masterpiece and Muira did an amazing job writing Casca, but it's not perfect either. Still, she is a beautifully written woman, both strong and feminine. It's just a fact that not many people are capable of writing women well, especially if they're trying to write a female warrior. I'm not sure if I'm really explaining what I'm trying to say well, but hopefully I'm getting my point across. It's hard to explain what I'm trying to say. It's just fucking annoying as shit when people try to praise one extremely progressive and well written female character by rejecting/insulting the ideology that seeks to free women of the shackles of misogyny, just because it's not perfect yet. Especially when its flaws are literally caused by misogyny, not by the ideology of feminism (a leftist/progressive ideology). Growth and change is extremely slow, it's not going to be perfect for a very long time.
