    Hi, thanks for sharing this. I jumped forward to the how to delegate in the staking centre. I understand it would be good to delegate to Aspen but please consider a part 2 of this video taking a deep dive into what the details behind each pool tells you about the pool (score, pledge etc.) Should I diversify and delegate small amounts across many pools or delegate to one pool? What determines how/ when rewards are granted. Thanks.

      Thanks for the great videos explaining how stuff in the Cardano world works. I am happy to say that I just got my 1st Aspen rewards from E254. Did you already cover how it works with Yoroi in terms of what to do next in terms of the rewards? Can you add rewards to an existing stake or do you need to accumulate them and then stake? Please share some advice. Thanks

If i were to one day restore this wallet, how would i do it? I would just restore my ledger in ledger live and then just follow the same steps as before? i.e press connect to hardware wallet directly in the yoroi extension and voila?

    • @WoodlandPools
      @WoodlandPools  Před 2 lety

      great questions!
      1. yes! Currently multi-pool delegation from a single wallet is not supported, so what you've described is exactly how you'd delegate to multiple pools.
      2-3. You can delegate to a new pool at any time by selecting them and delegating to them the same way you did to your first pool. You can also send your funds off your wallet at any time back to the exchange.
      we address these and other common confusions in this video. Keep the good questions coming!

    Thanks ! very useful videos, clearly explained! I have a staking question :
    If we stake (first time) Ada using standard Shelly Yoroi wallet (eg ada1), how do we link this wallet into the hardware wallet at a later time ? Shall we need 1) to create a new ledger wallet in Yoroi (ada2) and transfer the Ada from wallet ada1 to wallet ada2 or 2) somehow pair ada1 to the ledger thus continue using only the ada1 (linked to ledger)?thanks for the feedback!

    • @WoodlandPools
      @WoodlandPools  Před 3 lety +1

      Good question! Keep in mind that the Yoroi software wallet and the hardware wallet will have different sets of private keys generated from their different security phrase generation algorithms. There is inter-software-wallet support to link up Yoroi and Daedalus, for example, but not from software to hardware that we know of. So your scenario 1) would be how you'd need to handle it at that point.
      oh, also, if you haven't already, check out yesterday's video on private keys, addresses, and wallets. It seems like a natural extension of this conversation, and might help give you some ideas:

      @@WoodlandPools thanks for the prompt response. In fact, I just saw your new video about where our crypto reside that explains graphically the “owner” of the private and public keys. Being different for the cases of software and hardware wallets I suspected that it wouldn’t be possible to translate the public and private key from Yoroi to ledger. Thanks for confirming so. However, the ada transfer from yoroi to ledger, will it impact the staking ? ..i.e. shall we need to delegate the pool , then xfer to ledger and finally re-delegate from the ledger wallet to the pool ? ...all I am trying to see is if I need to wait until the ledger arrives before start staking (to avoid possible complication because of shifting from yoroi to ledger/yoroi wallet later ?

    • @WoodlandPools
      @WoodlandPools  Před 3 lety +1

      @@LS-on6qf Great questions. Yes, when you move your funds over to the Ledger and start staking there, since it's a completely new set of keys and addresses, you'll have the same initial lag till reward payout. But that being said, it's a one-time pain you'll have and once it's over you're all set and secure on your hardware wallet.
      The main factor to consider if you wait for the Ledger or start staking on Yoroi without it is probably most dependent on your timeline. If you're ordering the Ledger soon and just need to wait a few weeks, then maybe just wait and do it all at once. But if the Ledger purchase is a while off or you haven't decided exactly when you're going to get it, I'd say just start on Yoroi now and move later. "done beats perfect" as they say 😃

    • @WoodlandPools
      @WoodlandPools  Před 3 lety

      "why" can be a broad question, but it might help to better understand Proof of Stake. Here's a good video by Simply Explained which explains Proof of Work vs Proof of Stake:
      czcams.com/video/M3EFi_POhps/video.html
      with Cardano being a Proof of Stake protocol, when you delegate (or stake) your ADA, you're delegating to a Stake Pool like the ones mentioned in that video. The Stake Pools validate transactions on the network, and when the network rewards the pool for its validation efforts, all delegators (including you when you delegate) get to share the rewards.

How do I redelegate without jeopardizing my Meld reward tokens as I am still in the Meld stake pool but want to switch. I clicked yes and I was promoted to enter in my spending password which I didn’t because I got worried that I wasn’t doing it right or that I was hacked or something. • @WoodlandPools
      @WoodlandPools  Před 2 lety +1

      good question. The Trezor needs to be connected in order to initiate any kind of network transaction. Sending your ADA is a network transaction, but so is delegating. When it asks you to confirm, you should see that the only balance being consumed is the 2ADA deposit (which you can get back later if you'd like) to set up your Staking Address , and the ~0.17 ADA network transaction fee. You're correct that all your funds will otherwise remain on your wallet

      @@WoodlandPools thank you for patience 😊. I’ve watched your video 🤯😂. So what I now understand is that with the exception of the 15 or so crypto assets showing in Trezor, you need to add a UI to Trezor for the other 1600 assets, such as ADA. Does this therefore mean we can never see a portfolio overview in our Trezor ? What about if we use an interface like Exodus… ? Also if we needed to restore the Trezor, would we simply add the Yoroi interface again and « see » our ADA again ? So far only done test transaction from an exchange and scared to make this next leap (rest of funds and then staking to Aspen 😉) and lose my ADA. BTW have you got a video that follows on from the setup of Trezor and just explains adding various of the 1600 crypto assets not already showing in Trezor, or have you come across a video like this ? The former withdraws any existing rewards, but leaves the wallet registered with the network for staking (so you can add funds and have them automatically staked in the future). The latter withdraws the rewards, and also refunds the 2ADA deposit (minus the transaction fee) and removes the wallet completely from the staking/delegation process.
      We recommend to only use the second option if your'e 100% sure that you don't intend to use this wallet to stake/delegate ever again. If you think you will delegate from here again, then choose the first option, which leaves the wallet registered, and just withdraws the rewards.
      In terms of the balance, the balance it shows you on these screens should correspond to the rewards only, not to your full wallet balance. You'll confirm the withdrawal of the rewards, and then it'll be added to your full wallet balance.

      Are you using Yoroi paired with your Ledger, or a Yoroi Software Wallet?
      With Ledger, you need to connect over bluetooth.
      With the Yoroi Software Wallet, you're going to want to go to "Restore Wallet", and on the next screen, the top button in green reads "15-Word Wallet". They highlight it in green to make it more obvious as the preferred choice, but it actually makes it look like a heading and not a button, so maybe that's why you missed it. If you enter your 15-word passphrase after selecting that option, your software wallet should be cloned on your mobile device. I just tested and confirmed as well.

      The reason you can see your balances at a glance without any additional verification, is because the balances and their addresses are publicly available on the blockchain. Obviously no one knows that it's you, but the address and its balance is publicly available. This video may help clarify:

      Then from a security standpoint, even though you can glance at the balances at any time, you still need to verify that it's you in order to take any action with those balances (send, delegate, register to vote). On a hardware wallet (Ledger/Trezor) you'd need to have the device plugged in and confirm physically. On a Yoroi Software Wallet, you'd need to enter your spending password.

    WP I had another few questions that I was hoping you could help me with. I originally set up just a software wallet on Yoroi so I could transfer my ADA off the exchange and into the wallet as you advised. I have accomplished that and now thanks to Yoroi bug fix I delegated my ADA to a pool.
    In the meantime, I ordered a Ledger Nano S and installed that and now read that I have to create a new profile in Google so that I could download and create a new Yoroi extension using that profile which I did successfully. From what I understand I need to create a new association to my new hardware wallet which I guess is like a new Yoroi account??
    The next step I want to take is to send my ADA from the Yoroi software wallet to the newly created Yoroi-Ledger wallet that I created (a little panicked about doing this btw) so that I can store my private key on the Ledger Nano S instead of having it stored on Yoroi servers. Am I making sense so far :)
    Also, my other question is once and If I can successfully transfer my ADA to the new Yoroi-Ledger wallet will I lose it's delegation status to the pool meaning I will have to go through and delegate again and sit out and wait for a few more Epoch's to occur before I start gaining interest? Or is the delegation a transaction that is being tracked on the block chain and has nothing to do with where I store my private keys or wallets etc. and therefore exists until I proactively change it or delegate elsewhere like to your pool for helping me so much ;)

    • @WoodlandPools
      @WoodlandPools  Před 3 lety +1

      Great questions! Let's see which we can help answer:
      - First, congratulations on getting a Ledger! You shouldn't need to do anything special here to create the Ledger wallet's interface with Yoroi. You shouldn't need a different extension or Google profile. You should be able to pull up your existing Yoroi browser extension, click on "My Wallets" on the left hand side, and then click on "Add Wallet" and select Ledger. From there you should be able to set the Ledger up as an additional wallet the same way we do at this point in the Yoroi video:
      czcams.com/video/Q1ZJS7KvwGc/video.htmlm47s
      - Once your Ledger wallet is set up, then yes, it is essentially an entirely different wallet with different keys, addresses, everything. So you'll need to do a Send transaction from your software wallet to the Ledger hardware wallet (you can manage both in Yoroi, just one will be the Yoroi's software wallet and one is hardware wallet managed by Ledger) and transfer the funds between them. Remember to do a test transfer first! Once you see the test transfer successfully go through, send the balance and then you'll be fully on your Ledger.
      - Because the Ledger wallet (using Yoroi UI to manage) and the Yoroi software wallet are totally separate, then unfortunately you will need to re-delegate and wait for the lag again. It will hurt in the short-term, but after the 15-20 day lag, you can forget about it and know that for your much longer-term plans, you're all set and have full custody over your coins on your own personal hardware wallet.
      - Once you've re-delegated, you can use our Payout Estimator Tool to see when to expect your first rewards on your new Ledger wallet. If you haven't already, check out our Cardano Delegation Cycle video which goes through the process and the estimator tool:
      czcams.com/video/4JT-pX-NjHQ/video.html
      - Last thing, once you've moved all your funds off the software wallet to the hardware wallet, be sure to check back on that wallet after a few epochs to see if you received any rewards from previous snapshots. If you do, just withdraw them, and send those over as well.
      You're almost there! Once you get set up on the Ledger, you'll be in a much better state to move forward. Keep up the great work!

      @@WoodlandPools I wish I read your comment before I read the advice on Ledger site. No big deal that I now have a new profile in Google but it would have been nice to have it all in one place, one profile, two wallets. See the requirements below from Ledger on How to use Ledger Nano S with Yoroi (Cardano). I guess they need to update the requirements.
      Yoroi, a Cardano light wallet by Emurgo, now supports the Ledger hardware wallet. Hardware wallets make it possible to sign transactions using a device connected to a computer through a USB cable. Private keys, which are used to generate valid transactions, never leave the device. This provides a step up in security compared to just storing everything in a computer.
      The hardware wallet acts as a wall to any software in the computer trying to access the private keys, because it requires user interaction and the input of a secret pin known only by the user.
      Requirements
      You must have already set up your Ledger Nano S.
      You must have the latest firmware installed.
      You must have already installed Yoroi Chrome Extension.
      (If you already are using Yoroi), you must create a new Chrome Profile and install Yoroi. This will allow you to transfer your crypto assets from your current account over to a new one linked to Ledger.

    1. Does the reward automatically get delegated to the delegated pool right away, resulting in compound interest? Or do i have to withdraw it and delegate it separately to other pool or the current pool I have?
    2. Id like to diversify my ADA into a few other pools as well, and I read that I could delegate to other pools in the SAME yoroi wallet, but it seems like i cannot do that on it. Is it actually possible to delegate to multiple poos in the same yoroi wallet I have or not possible yet?

I cannot even click on the Amount box that I want to delegate to. Great questions! A couple are some of the common ones we hear all the time, and we'll be featuring them in our upcoming "5 most common Cardano staking questions". I'll paste the video here when it's published.
      But in the meantime, the answers to your questions:
      1. Yes, the rewards address is linked to the addresses on your wallet and is automatically added to your stake. Compounding interest is exactly how to think about it :)
      2. Great question. We were confused by this too. Doing a quick glance at the Cardano org's FAQ cardano.org/stake-pool-delegation under "Can I delegate to multiple stake pools" they say you can on Yoroi, but then at the bottom of the answer it says "It is worth noting that multiple-pool delegation using a single wallet will not be supported on the mainnet." Bummer. So if you want to delegate to multiple pools, you'll need to use multiple wallets.
      3. We just had another community member have this same problem. They deleted and restored their Yoroi wallet using the 15-word passphrase and it solved their issue, but now that you're having the same one, I wonder if maybe it's a Yoroi issue. Did the additional processing time help?

      @@wory3692 Good question. The 2ADA is a one-time deposit to set up your staking address. Then, from there, keep in mind that delegating to a stake pool is a Cardano network transaction just like sending ADA to an address, so it will have associated network fees. For that reason, any time you delegate to a stake pool (or change pools) you'll need to pay the ~0.2ADA fee.
      So your first time delegating ever should be ~2.2ADA (2ADA deposit + ~0.2ADA fee).

I delegated in the pool kyynb, did they stole my funds, omg i am so worried. I thought the recovery phrase recovered the wallet, but it opens a New wallet. Hi WP can you setup Yoroi transfer - then when you get hardware let that run everything?

    • @WoodlandPools
      @WoodlandPools  Před 3 lety +1

      If I'm understanding your question correctly, yes. What you'd do is start off by staking from your Yoroi Software Wallet, and then when your hardware wallet arrives, create a new wallet in Yoroi for the hardware wallet.
      You will need to do a "send" transaction between them, though, to the hardware wallet's address, which will basically result in the timer starting over for the 3-epoch lag for rewards on your hardware wallet. But this will just be a one-time pain, and after that you can feel secure that you're managing all your funds in your own hardware wallet with your own keys!
      Also, keep in mind that when you transfer the funds off the software wallet to the hardware wallet's address, due to the way the delegation cycle works from snapshot to payout, your software wallet address might continue getting rewards for a few epochs. Make sure to check back on your software wallet after 15 days or so and send any last rewards that came in to the hardware wallet.
      Hope that helps!

      When I set up yoroi I just connected Trezor t and clicked hardware wallet. Then received Ada in yoroi.
      Why I worry is if my pc fails or my Trezor how will I get yoroi keys back if I didn’t create a password and 12 words on yoroi?
      1. Should I move Ada back to an exchange and then create yoroi with a password and 12 backup word and then click hardware wallet or no need to do any of this?
      The reason I may not need to move it back to exchange is that all my Ada is on Trezor t and if pc browser fails and pc fails and Trezor t fails - it doesn’t matter because as long as I have my Trezor t backup phase I just get another pc - setup the yoroi extension on a new pc - buy another Trezor t and do the Trezor t recovery - will my new Trezor still hold my Ada?
      Or should I do what I asked in point 1?

      @@jasonjamin1716 fair questions and common fears! But you're exactly right in your second point. If you set up Yoroi paired with your Trezor T, then the private keys that are managing your coins are generated by the Trezor T and your Trezor recovery phrase. If anything were to happen to Yoroi, your PC, or your Trezor, you could just get another Trezor, restore it from backup, and pair it to Yoroi, and you'd have the exact same balances as before. Quick question, do I have to delegate on every epoch and pay the fee every time? I'm confused 🤔

    • @WoodlandPools
      @WoodlandPools  Před 3 lety

      No worries! Nope, you only have to delegate once, and then it's "set it and forget it". Keep in mind there is a difference between your fees to delegate, and the fees associated with the Stake Pool when rewards are distributed.
      For your personal delegation fees, those are paid only once for each time you initially select and delegate to a Stake Pool, and they are paid to the Cardano network. The first time you ever delegate to anyone, there is a staking address registration fee of 2 ADA, and any time you delegate to a pool, the delegation fee is ~0.2ADA. So your first time ever would be ~2.2ADA, and then after that any time you switch pools would be only ~0.2ADA.
      Then, separately, there are the fees that the Stake Pool charges when rewards are assigned to the pool. Keep in mind this only happens when rewards are assigned, and the fees come from the total pot of rewards before they're distributed to the rest of the pool's delegators. So for example if on a given epoch there was 10,000ADA awarded to the Stake Pool, the SPO would take their fees off the 10,000 and the remaining amount would be split evenly among all the delegators proportionately to their relative stake.
      Hope that helps!

      1. if you're just looking to sell your ADA, you can just use the "Send" section and send the funds back to the exchange to sell.
      2. if you want to withdraw your rewards, you can click on "Withdraw" on the "Dashboard" section.
      3. if you want to fully undelegate (remove your wallet's registration from staking altogether) when you click "Withdraw" also click on "Deregister". Keep in mind if you ever decide to delegate again in the future, you'll need to re-register again. For this reason we usually recommend people don't fully "undelegate" but instead just do steps 1 or 2 above

    di i get my 2 ADA back when i unstake ?

    • @WoodlandPools
      @WoodlandPools  Před 3 lety

      Good question! The 2 ADA is a refundable security deposit to begin staking with the network.
      Note that this is a one-time fee to begin staking in general, and is not something you have to pay again when you switch pools. You only pay the transaction fee of ~0.2ADA to switch pools; the refundable 2ADA you only pay once to register the wallet with a staking address.
      If you choose to unstake/undelegate completely, you can get the 2 ADA back, minus the transaction fee of ~0.2ADA or so.

      Good question. Yoroi doesn't have a login or logout, but if you're using it as a software wallet, you have to enter your spending password to authorize any transactions. If you're using a hardware wallet (Ledger or Trezor) with it, then it's even more secure, as you have to have the device physically plugged in to authorize transactions.

So I've looked at possibly using the app but I've read many reviews on the android app store whereby many people have lost their ADA because the app has malfunctioned somehow so I've been put off from using the app. Maybe il use the chrome extension and use a Trezor T to go with it. What concerns me also is that some people have seemed to have lost funds using the chrome ext and yoroi doesn't seem to respond to emails an when they do they basically say its not their fault as they don't hold the keys. I just think it can be hacked and I would much rather be able to send ADA direct to my Trezor like I have done for BTC and ETH

    • @WoodlandPools
      @WoodlandPools  Před 3 lety

      These are fair concerns. If you have a Trezor, then that's the way to go.
      Keep in mind that with a hardware wallet setup like the Trezor, the Trezor is the one creating and managing the private keys (the real sensitive part of the wallet) and the Yoroi extension in that case is just the UI-layer used to manage the Trezor's funds. If you're not confident in Yoroi, you could give Daedalus or Adalite a try. Check out our video comparing the 3 wallets. Since you're using a hardware wallet and just need a UI to manage it, you can choose between all 3:

      No problem! You don't need to manually cancel the first pool, it will automatically switch you over when you select and confirm your new pool. Once you've switched, the UI of your preferred wallet should indicate your selected pool as the Delegated one.
      If you're using Yoroi, you should be able to just go to the Delegation List tab, and in the search field either enter the ticker symbol of the new pool, or the new pool's Pool ID. Then when the new pool appears in the search results, just click Delegate. Here's the relevant section of the Yoroi video showing how:
      czcams.com/video/Q1ZJS7KvwGc/video.htmlm10s
      In Daedalus, you can search for a pool by its ticker or pool ID. Here's the section of the Daedalus video showing how:
      czcams.com/video/nbYvXnfPiSM/video.htmlm20s
      In Adalite, you'd need to search for the pool on PoolTool, copy the Pool's ID, and paste it in the Delegate Stake field in Adalite. Here's the segment of our Adalite video showing how:

      heh, hopefully they'll be able to in the future! For now I suspect it's because aside from just tracking your "value" (amount of coins) like BTC or whatever else, an ADA wallet needs to also be able to handle staking addresses for delegating as well as voting addresses for Project Catalyst, so there's a lot more involved
