    I love the clear and personal way you took us through the cooking process. Your ingredients are available to everyone. - you used the term "pepper sauce vinegar" and then elaborated on what that was. So may people making videos use ingredients familiar to themselves and leave the viewer hanging. I am definitely subscribing!

      I try to make sure I use ingredients that are available to everyone but when I do use something not familiar to the masses then I try to come up with an alternative that they can use or tell them where to find it online. Thanks Monica!

    Carolyn, kudos, a video on cooking greens which is sensible and not overly dramatic. Glad to see you insist on washing the greens whether 'pre-washed' or not. The 'pre-washed' are still subject to having dirt and other unwanted items in the pkg. I, too, like turkey wings but will not throw out smoked ham hock or just ham bones. Turkey wings with white beans (Great Northern) are one of my all time favorites. Thanks

    I cannot believe that I have not commented yet! This is LEGIT the best collard greens ever. I am a huge collard green snob too. We ended up using turkey drum stick but everything else we did as she instructed. We even grew our own collard greens this year so we were able to use those! mmmm so good. You will not be able to control yourself. Thanks so much. Cannot wait to try your other recipes.

    That's how we do collard greens at my house, except we like to split the stems several times, chop them up, and throw them in the pot first, then once they start getting a little soft, we put in the leaves.

We ate some type of greens every week & usually collards. I know how to make collards but after 40 something years I wanted something different. I am in my 60's and have only been introduced to 'soul food' in my late 50's (sadly so), through my job. then I was laid off and moved across the country. I am just now going crazy with these cooking channels on CZcams. I am preparing to do collard greens with the smoked turkey for the first time, your way!! thank you for explaining everything, especially washing the greens thoroughly! You're going have to multiply this recipe by at least 5 times. You can do the greens on Tuesday for serving on Thursday. When you're multiplying a recipe be sure and multiply each ingredient by 5 EXCEPT the salt. Do the salt times 2 and add more later to your taste. Yeah I need to do a video on this.

    OK, I have a question, and, people, please, do NOT be offended !! I'm White and grew up, in Texas, eating & cooking ALL this and MORE, yet people, both Black and White always seem so surprised that I can cook all this and more. Name it, and I can cook it. I cook this better than regular old food. Collard Greens & ham hocks or smoked turkey wings w/ collard greens, cornbread, mac & cheese, red potatoes, ham & green beans, ham hocks & black-eyed peas. That is if we were lucky. Any of y'all eat butter or margarine with sugar sprinkled on the bread? Please NO body get offended. Just asking....

    • @maya-yp3gi
      @maya-yp3gi Před 7 lety +7

      trilaw lawtri i eat it, my mom used to eat it as a kid and now me and my sister make it for a quick snack if we're hungry. we mix the sugar and cinnamon into the butter and spread it on the bread and toast it and it's really good

    • @trilawlawtri9083
      @trilawlawtri9083 Před 7 lety +2

      @Mcwillixms...Darn, I'm jealous. I never thought of putting cinnamon on the bread. We grew up putting margarine (UGH!) on bread, then sprinking sugar. Either we must have been starving or my memory is fading, but it tasted really good. I'm glad you and your sis are enjoying that. Here's another flavor from the past. Get a pack of cherry flavored Kool Aide, then pour sugar in the Kool Aide pack. It's silly to think of it now, but back then, young ladies were not allowed to wear make up till we were 16 or 17. But if you ate enough of that Kool Aide mixture, your lips were pinkish. Oh yes, your tongue would be the giveaway, bright red.... LOL

    • @evanhb49
      @evanhb49 Před 7 lety +11

      trilaw lawtri i dont think that would be offensive i would classify this food as Southern American food not black or white food

    • @trilawlawtri9083
      @trilawlawtri9083 Před 7 lety +4

      You are absolutely correct!!! Then, why do some people always call this "soul food"? That is what prompted my question, actually. I was at the Commissary at Fort Sam buying Collard Greens, and this 'lady' tried to argue that this is uniquely 'soul food'. I replied we been eating this ALL my life, and I KOW my great, great grandparents ate it. Anyway, I have always seen it a,s simply put as possible, GOOD OLD SOUTHERN food. Many thanks !!

    • @evanhb49
      @evanhb49 Před 7 lety +3

      trilaw lawtri soul food is southern food, yes it was made popular by the africans but they didnt start making it until they came over here (not being racist). But anyways black or white we still share the same style of food and that is called GOOD FOOD! THE BEST FOOD!

    great videos! This is the fourth one I watched. You should have your own cooking show!
    I am sure it would be a hit. The way that you flow thru the steps is very enjoyable to watch.
    Then, the end result.......I would love to be the one holding the camera. They get fed well!
    Keep it going. Nice job!

    We are from NC and this is exactly the way my family does it with the pepper vinger. So good with that, that is a must for us. My Family(grandma and mother) makes the pepper and vinger and we use that. Thanks for the recipe.
