It'd be cool to have you do one on the early to mid 90s alternative industrial band "Machines of Loving Grace". They had That one great song on "The Crow" soundtrack "Golgotha tenement Blues". They had three great albums! Their first self-titled, Then their second "concentration", which had the most well-known song "Butterfly Wings" On it, and their final album called "guilt". I’ve been listening to all their albums on Spotify for a few years and they’re all good. If you like their first album, I would recommend going back and checking out all their work from the following years.
Resident Alien and The Chinese Album were both really solid albums. Maybe nothing quite as great as In the Meantime (which I'd say is one of the very best singles by any band of the period) but that was an exceptional tune. They deserved better than they got.
The High Llama Same. I always thought it showed great growth from their previous album. It felt like a cohesive work and was one of the few 90’s albums I could play from start to finish.

One of my favorites and still are. Roy and Ant's other brother Christian played in Arckid along with Jonny. I met Roy in December and he said that he has a new album on a label due out in 2020.
Despite the lack of commercial success, their follow-up albums were fantastic. Whatever held them back, it certainly wasn't the music, magical all the way.
Thanks for this! 👍 I live in the USA so I didn't hear a lot from these guys. They did get a lot of airplay for In The Meantime, but I really can't remember anything else. In fact, I had forgotten the band name until today. I'll definitely listen to more now though, since watching this. For me, In The Meantime was a great song that grabbed me immediately. You mention that they were influenced by David Bowie. This was evident to me for the first half of the song. What made even more of a connection for me though, was from the bridge onwards. It might be just my own perception, but starting at the bridge, I felt a strong Blue Oyster Cult influence that stays with the rest of the song. All of this was evident to me the first time I heard it, and I never got tired of hearing it played on the FM.
Every now and then someone comes up with a song that's so great, so timeless and transcendent that I say, "if they never did another thing to contribute to the world in their lifetime, that song was enough and then some." "In the Meantime" is one of those songs. Thanks Space Hog and to you for this video.
Love Spacehog! They are very underated group that should of gotten more attention. I have kept track of their projects over the years I wish I had my old videos tapes and cassettes so I can post them online for everyone to hear but I lost them when I moved 16 years ago. I had their albums and their singles when I was a teenager they weren't easy to find especially stuff on Roy and Antony's little brother Christian that was in Arckid, Cube and Kid Symphony. And "The Chinese Album" was very underated it was in fact it was going to be a basis for a film and the songs were going to tell the story of the Hogs in China but for some reason it never happened I remember the Spacehog mailing list where the band would keep in touch with all of the fans who tried to do a grassroots campaign to play their music on the radio. Besides, "In the Meantime", my favorites are "Cruel to Be Kind" , "Space Is The Place", "One of These Days", "Lucy's Shoe", "Most Beautiful Girl In The World", "Candyman", " 2nd Avenue", "The Last Dictator", "Now I'm Only Dreaming", "The Horror", cover versions of Senses Working Overtime, Lap of the Gods, and Crack City, etc.

Then I later discovered that "In The Meantime" was one the main song on the Soundtrack and movie, Guardians of The Galaxy Part 3 and I went besserk!!! I did! Look!!! I am all in with this rock band, Spacehog. Love the guitarist...the bassist....the drummer....and especially the lead singer's David Bowie's voice!!! What's his name...Antony Langton...priceless....That whole group is very special.... with the music industry sold on Hip-Hop and Rap...no one wanted to take a chance on them but through "The Guardians of The Galaxy" movie....there are millions of David Bowie fans out here that would love to hear...Langton's voice again with the group of course.....Tell them we are waiting for them to release a song or album....."in The Meantime" is being played constantly on the US. Alternative and Post Modern Rock Radio stations!!! Tell them THAT!!!!
I didn't hear a word after Liv Tyler. Wtf would it be like with Steven Tyler as a father in law? Tripping over scarves all the time on holidays, empty chapstick containers all over the place, him on the couch , hair in a bun, bifocals, blowing his black nails dry... Lol. Love him.
One of my fave bands of all time. I even have the album "As It Is On Earth". I drove through one of our worst snow storms for 3 hrs to see them live in this lil' bar in Toronto. Great band.
Love Spacehog. They made some fantastic music, and I still listen to the albums very often. I've never understood why they weren't bigger than they were, always seemed to be on the fringes rather than in the spotlight. A bit of a shame.
Fun fact: the telephone busy signal in the first few seconds of "In The Meantime" was sampled from a really cool outfit named Penguin Cafe Orchestra, and the song "Telephone and Rubber Band"
Yes, I got Resident Alien when it came out. Really liked it. "Cruel to be Kind" probably pops into my head more than any of their songs, but I also remember the "We Are Never Coming Down" songs, as well as the big single. I just looked them up tonight to listen to them for the first time in years, and this is the third video that I clicked on. Glad someone could tell me what happened to them!!
Usually when you have a hit like that, like the one in 1995, there is almost always a follow up song that gets on the radio. It did not happen and I was shocked. I think that the label screwed up. The radio stations beat that song to death too in 1995.
The Chinese Album is phenomenal and very underrated. It just didn’t catch on commercially. Resident Alien, in contrast, blew up because it had a huge hit when people still purchased albums for one song.
I saw them play in Vancouver in 96 at the Town Pump....they were great. Resident Alien is honestly is one of those albums you can listen to over and over from start to finish. Zeros is such an amazing song, Starside,To be a Millionaire is friggin brilliant. All of it. All

I always thought they sampled “telephone and rubber band” for “in the meantime” but I guess it’s just a common sound that was used in both songs.
Cruel to be Kind was a good tune too
Man I loved Resident Alien, and I even got to see the band perform in York PA in 95/96 ( I forget which) what a treat.
Zeroes was a great song by them as well
I didn't hear a word after Liv Tyler. Wtf would it be like with Steven Tyler as a father in law? Tripping over scarves all the time on holidays, empty chapstick containers all over the place, him on the couch , hair in a bun, bifocals, blowing his black nails dry...
Lol. Love him.
For some reason, for the longest time I thought Spacehog played Counting Blue Cars. Now I always associate that song with In The Meantime.
Warren Webb Dishwalla wrote “Counting Blue Cars.”
Ya, two one hit wonders that came out with really good songs around the same time, guess that’s why I confused them
Seed "Rapture"
So many good songs!!.A real waste of food..top notch work
Finally! You did it!
I remember buying there first album at Tower Records in San Diego.
I actually bought their debut album on cassette and listened to it for a few years on my Walkman as a kid back in the nineties.
In the Meantime was etched into my memory and paired with the movie Nadja. They created an East Village balance if that makes any sense.
"We've entered the Shadow Zone"
i loved that entire Resident Alien album start to finish! "Raise a glass to love your past!"
Fun fact: the telephone busy signal in the first few seconds of "In The Meantime" was sampled from a really cool outfit named Penguin Cafe Orchestra, and the song "Telephone and Rubber Band"
I loved Space Hog!
Saw them play 6 times. Royston when he went solo. Still my favorite band. I like the 2013 album. Hope they do more.
I love them and did purchase their first 2 albums. I still listen to 4 or 5 of their tracks on Spotify.
I didn't know about any albums besides Resident Alien, but I can listen to that album front to back.
All of it. All
Their trajectory was similar to the Toadies in that they are a rock band from the 90s thats known for primarily one song.
Also I think it would be cool if one time Hum, Semisonic, and Spacehog went on tour as the biggest rock 1 hit wonders of the 90’s
Hum wasn't really a one hit wonder.
@@ID1886 Dude I love Hum especially some of there later stuff, but commercially they never really came close to Stars, they probably should’ve been recognized by the general public more
@@benjamingalligan9028 they most definitely didn't get the get recognition they deserved, they still put out a handful of albums at least. I didn't realize until last week they released another one last year.
Space Hog about to blow up after their song was used in Guardians of The Galaxy vol. 3 trailer.
I actually loved Cruled to be Kind about as much as In The Meantime, and to this day I'll still randomly dig up the song Spacehog. Yes, I had the album, though I never heard anything from them
The bass intro to In the meantime was so inspirational to me as a bass player. Such a great rhythm
It's one of a small handful of songs I can actually play note for note on the bass. (Not a bass player, I'm a guitarist.) Such a unique and groovy bassline.
I saw them play the Hazard county state fair a couple years ago. Didn’t know who they were til they played the hit.
Resident Alien was, is a great record. In an era of great music it stood alone in pop rock. All the grunge followers were getting tired, but SpaceHog was fresh. This record is still in my yearly rotation. Thank you for the video.
Spacehog: loses publication rights to song
Song: becomes popular again in 2022
The first three albums were great in my opinion. Chinese album is my favourite out of the three. I listen to them all the time, never gets old.
One of my favorite 90s bands
The voice in the background that says “the candyman” is the best
I remember when "In The Meantime" hit. Being a bass player myself, I fell in love and ran out and bought Resident Alien. I still jam on that today. Great stuff!!
