  • It’s our final day in Shanghai China and today we are going to experience the city from the highest buildings in the Pudong skyline. And to get over to Pudong we’ll take a psychedelic trip underneath Huangpu River in a ride that feels right out of the opening day of Epcot center. We’ll go up to the top of the oriental pearl tower. While it’s not the tallest structure in the city it is the most iconic, and a transparent observatory which is truly scary. And we paid extra to go up to the space capsule at the very top, but was it worth it? And next up we’ll go to the top of the third largest building in the world. Shanghai Tower is over 2000 feet tall and it feels like you’re taller than the sun. We paid extra to go all the way to the top of the building to see the damper. Was it with it? Come with us on this adventure!

Thank you for sharing your China trip with everyone. My wife is originally from Shanghai and she still has family members living there so we go there all the time to visit and see the sights, including Shanghai Disneyland. We just came back from a wonderful 2.5 week long trip a couple of days ago. We also spent a few days in Taipei on this most recent trip because we flew on EVA Air and they had a layover in Taipei. We had never been there before so we decided to stay there for a few days and, aside from the terrible humidity, we had a fantastic time there too. (We are Californians so we are just not used to the weather beast that is humidity.)
We watched your Shanghai videos before we left but we missed out on the last few ones because we did not have access to CZcams during our trip due to "The Great Firewall Of China." We are binge watching them all now that we are back home and they are reminding us of how much fun we had. You even showed a few things that we missed out on so we put those on our agenda for our next trip, which will probably be in 2025. Whenever I go there, I have an excellent personal tour guide in my wife who is fluent in both Shanghainese and Mandarin but you managed to find a few sights that even she did not know about so we'll hit those next time.
I want to salute you both for being gamers and trying out the Shanghainese food. There is absolutely no doubt about it, Shanghainese people absolutely LOVE to eat! Thank goodness I always walk everywhere in the city otherwise I would gain so much weight!
Also, I also give you major kudos for eating xiaolongbao the way they do in Shanghai - with chopsticks and with a soup spoon on the bottom. The spoon is the only way to prevent spilling the precious soup if you don't manage to suck it all out. That is the "hack" that all of the locals, including my wife and her family members, do.
My wife and I have tried repeatedly to find good Shanghainese food at home in the Bay Area but nothing compares to what they have over there. Every time I see the long line of people waiting to eat xiaolongbao at the local Din Tai Fung, I just shake my head. Those people have no idea that what they are eating is Taiwanese style xiaolongbao and not traditional Shanghainese xiaolongbao. Other than in Shanghai, the skin on xiaolongbao is always way too thick. It is supposed to be super thin and only the xiaolongbao in Shanghai have that. Once you have had the real things, nothing compares. I can only imagine the long waits at the new Din Tai Fung that is going to be opening at Downtown Disney soon. Sadly, those folks will be waiting for something that is not the real-deal.
Also, Shanghai is the only place that has xiaolongbao with Shanghainese crab inside during the crab season. Those have to be eaten to be believed! I cannot get those anywhere else on the planet.
Next time that you are in Shanghai, be sure to also try shengjian bao, which is another must-eat when in the city. Shengjian bao are pan fried so that they are crispy on just the bottom. Like xiaolongbao, shengjian bao also have soup inside. I can never get enough of them when I am in Shanghai!
Thank you again for all of your fantastic videos!

It was never banned. The meme of Xi & Obama being Winnie & Tigger was blocked when it became viral. This sort of thing always happens. Something is temporarily blocked because of online outrage and then unblocked, but then it is forever a meme in the West as being banned. Of course, there are things that are banned, but its always exaggerated outside of China.

There are brand name stores and eatery of any kind from all of the develop countries (don't want to say western world since there are Japanese and Koreans shops too). Not only that, they're much much bigger in size, double floors or more. There is a ridiculous M&M (as in the chocolate brand) store that's double floor. There's a massive Starbucks in Shanghai that's double floor, with a bar. Any kind of brand name store, Walmart, Costco, KFC, McDonlad, Levis, Nike, Apple, etc and just about every fashion franchise, it's there in all the large cities. They're all making a profit, that goes back to their respective country.

You two are BEYOND brave. I have a massive fear of stationary heights, i'm good with roller coaster, flying, never an issue. But fight tooth and nail if I have to go into a highrise. Very impressed.

Although I'm ok with heights, I really felt for the two of you while standing on the transparent floor. But you did great and conquered your fear 💪🏻 gotta say, that psychedelic train under the water look so cool. Would love to ride that! And lastly I wanna say, I'm kinda sad that the China adventures come to an end... But I know, the next adventures will be just as awesome 😊

Sounds like you all had a great time on your trip. It’s clear why you visited Shanghai, Beijing and Hong Kong, but I feel like you may have missed a great opportunity to see the real China, but that’s really not why you made the trip.
About fifteen years ago, I was fortunate enough to spend a month traveling around China with my Chinese girlfriend as a guide. Exhausted, on our first morning there with no sleep after the long flight we were dropped off at a little hole in the wall, (literally - there was no front door or wall), restaurant. The owner was a friend of a friend. Not open yet but he fixed us breakfast. The location and the restaurant itself felt exactly like being in the back alley marketplace of an Indiana Jones movie. Other than some time in Beijing to see the Forbidden City and to walk on the Great Wall, most of the trip was spent off grid. Meaning, where tourist don’t go. When I saw the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an, (an overwhelming experience that pictures or video don’t do justice), I was the only non Asian person there. It was the same when visiting the Giant Buddha in Leshan, (The trip to and from Leshan was terrifying. It was like riding Mr Toad's Wild Ride in a bus and we had the front seat.), the Shaolin Temple, the Lantern Festival in Zigong and other sites. I was even given a private tour of the dinosaur museum in Zigong with an English speaking guide. (We'd had lunch with a friend and the museum curator who offered the tour.) We even had a meeting with some city officials to help a Chinese friend get permission to start a business. (Being associated with an American was a major plus in his favor.) I made the mistake of bringing travelers checks. It took an hour at a bank, (again in a city where there were no foreigners), to cash them, but they hunted down someone who spoke English who stayed with us the entire time. Very hospitable. Even offering hot water for us to drink. I then remembered that I had an HSBC savings account and debit card. I walked up to an ATM, (even here it had an English option), and pulled out cash. (Dummy.) We traveled all over China and outside of huge cities like Shanghai, where foreigners are not unusual, I was treated like a rock star as my experiences show. I don’t think I was allowed to buy a meal or a beer the entire time I was there. I visited the mansions of people who were “connected” as well as people who lived in hovels barely suitable for keeping livestock. A farmer we visited had built his home himself against a rock cliff wall. The place was half cave. When I showed up at someones home it was time for celebration. The table was filled with food and the wine came out. I was gifted so many bottles of alcohol that I was unable to legally bring it all home. (Fifteen years later I still hoard some of those bottles of Chinese wine. You can get it in America, but it just doesn’t seem the same. If you’ve ever drank Everclear then you have some idea of what (a weak) Chinese wine is like.) If you drink at all, no doubt you tried it when you were there. There's a reason it's served in tiny glasses. It will knock you on your butt - as I can testify to. I was the subject of laughter more than once as the American who couldn't handle his wine. (I was a bit tipsy and not wasted as they thought, but let them have their fun.) I constantly would spy people sneaking pictures of me and learned to just walk up to them, take their phone and hand it to a friend so they could take their picture with me. My command of Mandarin was rudimentary, but I could usually get my message across. The only problem was that I was never allowed to practice my Mandarin because everyone I met wanted to practice their English. One glaring fact I learned on the trip was that, despite our governments differences and tensions, the Chinese people love Americans. Not once for the entire trip did I hear an unkind word. They all want to visit America and want to hear about Hollywood, New York and Texas. It was probably the best trip of my life.
Sorry for droning on, but if you do ever return to China on a non Disney trip and are able to see things the way I did, I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

We’d love to go to those kind of places but it’s hard to do that not knowing the language. For now I think we’ll stick to big cities
