  • Tadej Pogacar is on track to win the 2024 Tour de France in Isola 2000, and Jonas Vingegaard can't believe the Slovenian alien's performance, beating records set by dopers like Lance Armstrong and Marco Pantani. Jasper Philipsen comes back to win stage 16 in Nîmes and Bini Girmay suffers a hard crash, while criticism of Pogi begins to emerge in the peloton.

    I'm from belgium and i live in france now, and many people on the press here (and the little sheep of the media, so almost everybody) accuse pogacar of doping beating pantani record by almost 4 minuts. So vinguegaard, the wonderfull anchovy is clean for them ? He beat the same record by 3 minuts and he was almost dead months before like he say in the interview when he beat pogacar in sprint couple of days ago. They also forget he beat pogacar two years in a row and last year with more than 7 minuts. So my point is why people suddenly, so easily think only pogacar use illicits methods and not the anchovy and probably more than 50% of the peloton ?

    • @sortefod
      @sortefod Před měsícem +22

      Because Pogacar won the stage. The most eye-catching result always gets the most attention, which was also the case when Vingegaard won the TT last year.

      @@sortefod But it was a little bit less negative press last year for vinguegaard even when he win the TT like a supersonic anchovy flying under the water. And it's the facility to forget what happens one year before that make me think people have a very very short memory. Sorry, my english is very bad i hope you all understand.

      Actually Vine is more alien than Pogocar. Hacking away out of nowhere since 3years with a super skinny 58 kg body on ITTs, like he is some kind of rather big Ullrich, Indurain, etc... And all this after being close to death a couple of months ago.
      Anyway, its entertaining, unlike Vroom, who obviously couldnt/cant ride a bike without heavy moto assistance. He was ugly to watch, even though sometimes comical.

      The TDF, UCI, and every other alphabet organization knows it’s all dirty. Cycling and weight lifting have to be the 2 dirtiest sports out there, and no amount of policing can change that fact. If they start announcing failed drug tests, including probably every GC rider, the sport would collapse…after so many controversial winners/dirty TDF’s I’m not sure how it could continue as a sport. So, at the end of the day, just go ahead and give Lance (and others) back his wins and quit testing altogether. When I was younger and more naive I liked Lance A. winning all those years but later I saw how it was upsetting for anyone else. Maybe a neutral likes to see one win everything or a few win everything and then the fan(atics) of the person; team, but for the rest it's not that great. Someone in the comments mentioned ex-riders noting it's entertainment (i.e. not sport) now and that's the death knell. Entertainment is not so subtle code things are being manipulated-rigged for selected outcomes and ratings over legit. competition. When the Patriots got busted for filming opponent's practices a season tix holder sued and the judge dismissed the case noting that the fan's tix only guaranteed access to see a game as attendee in their seat (i.e. be entertained) that there was no guarantee the game was without manipulation i.e. 'pure'. Same thing when someone sued F&X about 'news' and the judge dismissed or rejected that case for same reason F*X was classified as entertainment and so no guarantee it was all legit. 'news'- it's a show nothing more.

    Carbon monoxide rebreathing is a technique used to test/determine hemoglobin mass. Hemoglobin mass is an important component of oxygen delivery and thus VO2max and endurance performance (this is mainly what athletes want to improve when they train at altitude). In this context, saying a carbon monoxide rebreathing is used to improve VO2max and cycling performance is like saying a power meter is used to improve VO2max and cycling performance. Yes, but because it’s a useful diagnostic tool that gives valuable insight into adaptations from training. I did a quick search of the literature to see if carbon monoxide breathing could be used as an intervention for improving performance and found very little (but not to say it absolutely couldn’t). So I think their is a potential this carbon monoxide rebreathing thing is getting blown out of proportion.

At every stage, the yellow jersey and stage winner will be tested. This year, all samples will primarily be sent to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited anti-doping laboratory in, Switzerland.
    At the end of the race, the ITA will make a selection of samples that will be kept for potential re-analysis over the next 10 years, and will keep monitoring athletes closely after the Tour de France based on all relevant data it will have collected before and during the race.

      @@cyclinghighlights I read somewhere that Pogi had a prolonged watt max increase of 5% in relation to last year. If that are true then he must have found a new juice because that type of improvements simply are unheard of considering his level. I personally think they all are microdosing. Remember when EPO came into the sport before anyone but endurance athletes and their providers knew? SO many athletes died of "heart failure those years. Cyclists and off track runners especially. Then Festina and Lance got busted and the "limits era" began. Remember btw that Lance bought and donated the high tech equipment they used for TdF doping controls that he knew would not bust his juice. The microdose era we are in now.in my opinion. I accept they all are on the juice but it are multiple drugs and each one they stay inside the given values. Note how they in the "old days" have much more normal variations in their tests but now they all are juuuust under the limits allowed. Inside=OK. Over = busted and hang out to dry. I have no proof for my opinion but the limits regime all the pro´s manage to stay inside just tells me that it are microdosing and maybe something they cannot test for. The Pogi improvements in relation to last year are beyond odd. He have been racing all season and all his life he have gone down in week 3 or when having ridden many races. If not this year it in itself also are cause for questions. My 5 cents.
      Btw. You DO know the story about Jonas, right? When he were a teen, his trainer brought him to the Danish national centre for sports where all Danes you ever have heard of and a lot more you have not, have been tested. Centre have existed since just after WW2. Jonas ability to convert his breath (oxygen) to oxygen in the blood are the best that they EVER have tested any Dane have EVER! And that even with a margin. THIS were an eye opener for both Jonas and his surroundings and actually a decisive factor for Jonas to take that fish factory job so he could commit to cycle training and finance it those early years.
