- this 50+ watts per channel receiver is a nice receiver for servicing, the service manual is well printed and useful, One can easily be fool by the name JVC but I was surprise with this receiver. Analog power meters are a +.

Nice. It's a big receiver! I got one for free yesterday. Couple of lights was not working and he told me that the right channel was silent? Anyway I was happy to get it! And I vacuumed the inside with a big paint brush as much as I could? And then I used electronic spray on every potentiometer inside. Those trim potentiometers get all some adjustments when wet? So I moved them back and forth a couple of times and set them where they was before!! And I cleaned the casing with a cloth! No problem what so ever both channels play.
I have JVC JR s250. It has a very good sound.
I've a bit of a soft spot for JVC gear. My JR is an S201 and I'm due to dive back into it soon. Initially just did a cleaning and a quick check through. I also have the A-X1 and an A-X5 which I really like the sound of. Like your channel and subbed. BTW: I also use the toothbrush/iso method but I picked up a tip from Trevor's Bench. Right after the scrub, lay a paper towel (I use blue shop cloths) over the scrubbed area and then lightly scrub the towel with the brush. Mops up the nasty stuff quite nicely.
I'm currently Recapping mine on my bench right now. (I've had it since new in 1978) It is certainly dirtier inside than that one!
Good job....you doing complete recapping?
@@VintageAudioFever Yeah. Don't want to but so many have leaked and the rest aren't testing well. Fortunately, there are only 2 expensive caps. The rest are bog standard. Since they lasted this long, I am going to replace them all with wet type again. I don't know enough about the circuits to know if I could substitute the solid electrolyte devices.
Thanks Joe
Another job well done. Thanks for sharing
Your Luxman is having me a headache LoL
But I think i got it
Well I heard that you like a challenge lol but really I thought it was gonna be a quick wham bam thank you mam type job with the way it was working and sounding. But that's why I brought it to you to find any underlying issues that needed to be addressed. Thanks again appreciate it
Got to like those screw less receivers makes less work and more fun. Where can I get one hahaha. Very nice work again Joe.
Thanks for the great video. I just picked one up and the lamps are out. Do I replace them from the front or take the top off?
