I had to do it when I crossed. It takes a couple days of waiting and is done online through Mexico city.
The guy at the Banjercito handled it for us while we camped for 3 extra days at the near by Pichlingue Bay.
It was a hassle but we got it done.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Are you kidding me. We asked so many times and they said no. They probably didn't know they could. So frustrating to hear this now.
@Eat See RV it might have been necessary to have the original tip holder do it but you mentioned they were there.
And how long ago was this? Rules have tightened considerably.
@Wheels last year. It was one of the guys at the Banjercito in front of the ferry landing. He first refused and then called someone in Mexico City, who had him submit the cancelation online.
3 days later, it was canceled and I purchased a new tip.
I thought I put up on CZcams, but it never got edited.
Well that was interesting and we know what you're going through.
We've driven our 35 ft RV down to just south of La Paz every winter for the last 6 years where we stay for 5 to 6 months. I had a premonition this last year, the RV is getting old and we've survived the drive 6 years now. Perhaps it's time to leave it down there on our land permanently. Well we went through a bad detour Santa Rosalia with a loud bang and I felt like we ran over a boulder. It was the exhaust and muffler falling off the RV. Well we got on the pavement I disengage the Subaru to go retrieve the muffler and the tire immediately went flat it had punctured when it was pulled over the exhaust. Change the tire went back exhaust was gone. So we continued down the road a little bit louder than before but tolerable. The next day we smelled like burning rubber. I pulled over checked underneath, the inside tire on the dually was punctured. We went over the Sierra Gigante on one tire, could have been a major disaster! So we ran carefully down to Ciudad Insurgentes and parked behind the llantera and wait for Monday morning. They put the 23 year old spare on which is a bit of an operation on that vehicle, charged us 100 pesos. I laughed and exclaimed '100 pesos' !? and their faces fell. I gave them 200 and we all laughed. I left with around 140 miles to go praying the spare would make it. We got about 130 miles just over the top of the Cacachilas mountain range and could see our town way down below the huge hill when we heard a pop pop. Nothing to do but continue on the remaining one tire on that side, which went fine, we got up onto our homestead and parked in our RV site we built there. Oh, yeah, I forgot the lights quit the morning we crossed the border at San Luis de Colorado, I got up in the dark at 6 am to get an early start and could not get the headlights on so had to wait for daylight.
From here on we are flying down! We did the round trip six years straight and figured we are tempting fate, there was always one white knuckle day on that narrow stretch from Guerrero Negro to Santa Rosalia with the semi trucks going by with inches to spare. We actually cracked the driver mirror with one the year prior. So we are done with that part of the adventure, however the RV is a great home there with full solar and we built septic and water storage so we have full hookups and big stone deck under palapa shade.
So this summer instead of our usual mountain biking out of the RV around the US we went to Europe and now in Bali. Truth is we are happier in Baja kitesurfing all winter and biking all summer. So we need another RV at some point!

This is the type of thing that I have come to experience more and more (even like miracles) as I have embraced it from the beginning. Great job of accessing the bounty of the Universe! It's SO amazing!
The reason this happens is that you think about something (hopefully what you need and want) and then the Universe reflects it back to you. It's actually not a God, at lease unless one thinks of oneself as a God.
There is a way of concertedly accessing this system. I'm working on elucidating it...at least in the best way known contemporarily. Certainly people in the past and even ancients have consciously accessed this system.
We're big believers in the abundance of the universe too and know this to be true.
Been following you two before we started our adventures in 2018 and yes it has its lows but so does every lifestyle. You both have chill about your lifestyle which is great. So many who FT have stopped for various reasons so before you do remember what life was like 9-5

Man! With all your trials that you went through, glad you had the support of good friends for moral support. The fact that the shop had the U-bolts pre- made, hardened and tempered is a clue that this a common standard part that has a limited lifetime. Log your mileage and record any rough roads as extra stress to estimate life and preventative maintenance of the next change out. I’m a retired mechanic and I noticed your axle brackets did not have any isolation mount cushioning around u bolt or bracket. I bet you dollars to donuts this part is common on a lot of class C and delivery vehicles alike. I bet you that it’s a common problem too and would mention that there could be an aftermarket setup available that would beef up to bare minimum stock set up. OR, the previous owner avoided that necessary upgrade when they installed the lift kit.
The ultimate upgrade is independent suspension with air assist hydraulic shocks if you plan on a lot of washboard or back roads. Just saying.

Yeah I would love to go all out and put independent suspension in but that takes a ton of money. We will be changing out the blocks and stock leafs for a custom spring pack in the near future!

Ugh - the TIP. Our TIP on our catamaran did not get cancelled even though we thought it did. When we sold it, it was a bit of a headache for the new owner... so yes, make sure it is cancelled. Oh, the dog rescue place - love it. I have friends that did one in Loreto - so many pups there.

It cannot be cancelled because it's their way of getting you to consider a payoff. It's how delays are taken ever of in Mexico. An incovenieince for you is money for them, which is the reason visitors resort to paying off officials rather than risk delays.
That is not true. Payoffs were offered and denied by officials.

I don't think we drove that roundabout. We did drive a section called "highway to hell" twice, north and southbound. White knuckle for sure lol

Yes we did that in our first week of crossing. You only have 30 days to complete it after crossing. We shared a video on it!

Our intention was never to go down the Pan-American. We would like to find property in Mexico one day. And we have other trip plans that require us to be back in Florida

Yes but you need to finalize it at the border. They check the vin and a bunch of stuff
We kind of screwed ourselves by securing our permanent residency.
Before we could obtain a TIP on our AZ registered RV and tow vehicle and travel on the mainland on the 6 month FMM cards. Or we could take the ferry over to Baja which meant a one day drive instead of four.
It turns out that as residents we can only drive MX registered vehicles on the mainland and over the ferry. And we could never import our Subaru as it doesn't qualify under NAFTA. We're ok in Baja but if we travel in mainland we'll need to rent or buy a MX car!
Yes it's true. As a permanent resident you cannot use a tip. It has to be imported permanently which has a pretty costly tax.
When you got your TR in Mexico, can you use an RV park as address?

@@EatSeeRV thanks for the link, I’ll check it out. I think you might be the only campers I’ve seen go from diesel back to gas.
There's a lot of things this RV could offer us a diesel couldnet just because of the chassis. Weight capacity, water capacity, etc. The power is comparable. But the driving experience in the cockpit was better in the Mercedes. Also the cost is the same given we get worse mileage in the new RV.
@@EatSeeRV makes sense--thanks! We had a Tiffin Wayfarer which was a lovely coach (sold it a week ago), but just want a LITTLE more space. I wish MB made a chassis one notch bigger than the 3500 that all these coaches are on. The handling/driving/creature comforts of the MB up front are best in class.

As a well-seasoned traveler, who has experienced the vagaries and vicissitudes that life has to offer, I will tell you that the journey (in the macroscopic sense) is the ultimate thing. We live on the Earth, the 'physical place,' where all things are broken-down and then born again, fresh and new. And if you look at the journey as being the ultimate thing, then you will find that the things you thought you lost were actually still right there in front of you (but just in a different form). In less spiritual terms, I'm saying that the apt traveler sees what is given rather than what is missed, because when journeying, nothing can truly be missed. (Actually, I'm not sure that summation was less spiritual)
This Universe is a wondrous place that organizes events and material things in a way that is difficult to comprehend, but comprehending is NOT where it's at. Experiencing (it ALL) is where it's at. Perhaps your friends will have a wonderful, and life-changing, experience on the mainland, while you guys go and get things in order, and then you will all come together at another place and time and have an EVEN more wonderful experience because of what you have learned.
I'm a very spiritual person, and what I'm working on right now is that when confronted with an obstacle (something that doesn't meet my expectations) to not have what I call the 'startle reflex.' Fear is a pervasive thing on this continuum, and it is the killer of miracles. I can tell you that in my conquest to confront innate fear directly (fear that arises for almost no reason)...well, it's been rather interesting, and so I've found that that initial reaction is very important (because it sets up the intent for the next sequence of events that follows).
To have a more grounded way of viewing obstacles later is great, but to forebear that initial, "OMG, everything is going wrong" reflex has ENORMOUS power (because as Barney Fife would say, "Nip it in the bud.". In that sense, it's all about self-discipline in the mindset that sets up subsequent experience.
Thanks T Diddle! All of what you said makes a lot of sense. We are working on our positive attraction skills. But, as a child of the 90's where knee jerk reactions were made pop-culture, I (Dennis) am still learning to even recognize when I'm beginning to spiral.

@Eat See RV Dennis, I'm Todd. It's fantastic to be on a first-name basis. In attempting to harness my own mind, which functions much like a bag of cats (that is often vigorously shaken by life), I have found that I'm beginning to spiral when something "bad" happens and I find myself believing that this bad thing will KEEP happening. When something bad happens, and we think it will keep happening, then it does keep happening, at least until the stressor is eventually removed (a whole lot of work if you ask me). I am currently concertedly training myself to not think like that. This type of thinking goes like this: because one thing breaks on an RV, things are going to keep breaking on the RV (and at the most inopportune times).
If we are deeply honest with ourselves, we must admit that we have NO idea what is going to happen next, and how wonderful is that?

@Eat See RV Here I go again over-communicating, but oh well, I have to be me. Another thing I'm working on is using logic as a tool and not as a general mindset. If you need to fix something that's broken on your RV, then logic is irreplaceable, but if you use that same logic to govern what will happen next in the wonderment of your travels, then that usage of logic shows its inherent flaw.
If we use logic to determine what will happen next, then what will happen next will be determined by logic, which is inherently about previous experience, but if we let the logic go (in this circumstance), then MAGIC determines where we will go.
I like to send messages of support when I see my beloved CZcams travelers struggle, because what you're doing is so meaningful, and I would hate to see moments of frustration cause you to change path (unless it's truly your destiny to take another path).
I have followed CZcams travelers, who I (personally) thought gave up prematurely. Not to say that's the case for you guys.
All the beach dogs that I've ever seen (on video), at least in areas like Baja, seem to be really happy and sweet (though feral). Is there a problem with them? Except that they aren't fully domesticated?
They are sweet. They're also not neutered or spayed. Which creates more and more of a problem. Many aren't taken care of either and plagued by diseases or go unfed. It's not all of them but it is a sad sight to see.
@Eat See RV I think the best solution for feral animals is neuter/spay and release. Most often, they can never be fully domesticated again. I've never actually laid eyes on feral dogs, but I've seen lots of feral cats, and I did once see a large colony where there was massive amounts of food made available to the group. Even on a casual observation, I saw many missing eyes from fighting.
One would think that with plentiful food and with being allowed to exist by the human community that the cats would just be peaceful. Nope, it just set up a colony where they became quite territorial.
I simply have no experience with beach dogs except through videos of them mainly in Latin America...but sometimes in Africa too...which is why I asked someone with their nose to the ground.

$42 for custom U-bolts at a suspension shop in the most unlikely place? That's divine intervention. If you have to head all the way to FLA again, you need to run into a flatdeck truck, load up Dita and save some fuel...
Yes, I agree. We got extremely lucky being in a larger city that had that parts without having to ship anything!
What are the odds the u-bolt nuts came in that morning? That's good karma. All the problems (and yes they come in 3's), it's good you kept it in the video. It's truth, part of the process and makes good footage/storyline. It shows that the RV life is not all ponies, petunias, and perfect Instagram shots.

Did y'all have issues with the THC products? I thought weed was legal in Mexico? They were still giving you crap?
CBD is legal and THC under a certain percentage but crossing borders with them is a serious crime. Definitely look into these laws for yourself we are not advising you of anything. Also the products we are referring to here have no CBD or THC. We are not risking going to Mexican jail haha

We're friends now. And we're not mad at them. They also have extra cost by having to fly to the border to meet us. We're thankful we have communication with them and are able to find a resolution. Many sellers don't ever talk to the buyers again after it's sold.

No I was a freelancer and contracts can end at any time. I've been a remote worker (first for our own real estate investing business) then as a writer about real estate since 2017.
I would never ever set foot in Mexico for so many reasons. Good luck.

Liz and Dennis, you have been having a wonderful life and sharing with your followers. I love you two have a good time, but yes this cancel crap is of the worst benefit for anyone that would love to follow your adventures! I am surprised that Mexico would not want to follow your journey, and provide the real security needed for you and your travelers! Time for the Mexican Federal Police step up to the plate and protect all of the USA, Canadians, UK, Ausi, people that want to vacation in Mexico! When will the Mexican Government put in place the measures for all of us to visit and enjoy the wonderful Mexican People!
The country is doing its best. It's very open and welcome for all to enjoy. Traveling anywhere has its challenges especially in an RV. These just present themselves in different ways! We love Mexico and wholly advocate for visiting here
wait... you had a job? I thought you guys owned rental properties? anyways, I permanently lost my job in Oct 2020 because I refused to wear a stupid mask for covid. so I just decided to sell everything and move to Mexico. been retired 2 years now.
The average Mexican citizen makes $500 pesos/day ($30 USD). Most of these incredibly industrious and hard working folks will never get to see as much of their own country as you already have. First world problems.
Everything you said is true. But acknowledging our disappointment in not being able to go isn't valid either.
@@EatSeeRV Not meaning to lecture you, but a sense of perspective is important. Overlanding, particularly in someone else's country, is a privilege. Too many CZcamsrs (especially Americans) come off narcissistic and entitled imo. Just my two cents take it for what it's worth. Mexico is an incredible country with gracious, hospitable people and a vibrant multi-faceted culture. There's a lot more to it than the 'best' beach or the next 'free' boondocking spot. And if the vacation ends early, oh well, así es la vida. Peace.
Mexico doesn't know where your vehicle is at. Just take a flight with the paperwork in your pocket back to the border. The previous owner could be dead for all the MEX authorities know.

A bit of tough love feedback that I don't think you stated very explicitly. It was your responsibility when you purchased the vehicle to ensure the TIP was cancelled and that you checked with the Banjercito that it was. You tried to foist this off on to the people who sold you the RV. And while they should have handled it correctly, you need to take ownership of the issue as well.
Yes, good point. It was something we asked about when we were buying it and they weren't sure. When we followed up they realized they did have a TIP but it was after delivery of the vehicle. We definitely weren't mad at them. It was just disappointing to know we couldn't go.

Don't know about that. But the banjercito ferry office was pretty adamant about TIP cancellations only being possible at a country border location.
Why would you bribe an official of another country who is just doing his or her job. Ask yourself if you would appreciate a visitor to your country attempting to do that.
