  • We have just finished a 30 day health reset where we challenged ourselves to look at our nutrition, our exercise and our drinking. Join us as we look back on our progress, think about the things that challenged us and reflect on what we have learned over the past month.
We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK. We retired from teaching at the age of 51 in the summer of 2022. Our plans for early requirement include relocating to the Yorkshire Dales, developing our forever home and travelling the UK, Europe and eventually the world in our VW campervan Nelson.
Please subscribe and like our videos if you like what you see.

Retirement can feel a bit holiday mode but it could last 30+ years. I think treating 5 nights a week as school nights, sober and early to bed, is a good ratio to keep to.

Yes we are finding that - although it is so dark in the Dales we are in bed early anyway!

To not beat yourself up over missed fitness targets is something I struggled with, especially when your quite driven to complete the targets you've set. But, as you said, life gets in the way. It's best to just remember, if targets are missed, at least you had them in the first place and theres always tomorrow

I keep reminding Richard that it’s good that life gets in the way as there is so many fun things to do! However I have got to do 3000m of elevation before New Year’s Eve to complete my 4th Everest, so better get my hiking boots on! 🥾🏔️

I was thinking about Atomic Habits by James Clear, from the beginning of the video = incredible insights. Atomic Habits & embracing minimalism are the 2 things that changed my life positively = in all areas = & helped me in being successful at retiring early, & living w/surplus.😊

It's pretty obvious that I love a lot of James Clear's thinking. I just really like how he distills down really complex psychology into an easy to understand and do approach. Have you subscribed to his weekly 3-2-1 newsletter? It's good to get reminders from him each week what is really important- good if you are into Atomic stuff.
Thanks as always for the comment👍R

“Everything in moderation, including moderation.” Julia Child And re the 1% ... "baby steps" :) I am a Patreon on a channel created by a woman a bit younger than me, but close ... and a van lifer in Australia. She did monthly challenges in 2023. Some I did, some I did not but I learned the value of challenging myself with challenges! Great video with loads of motivation and inspiration.

Thankyou. It is always good to have little challenges that focus the mind (and sometimes the body) as we get older!

Hi Richard and Jackie - I’m a new subscriber , can really relate to your new life plans. My husband and I are in the retirement process - I just left my job and Steve is winding down his job and getting his pension soon. We are a bit older , 60- but always planned to do this . I enjoy keeping fit , I’m nearly two years into not eating meat . We plan
to travel in our van too. Unfortunately, due to his job , Steve has had a knee replacement but is doing well ( needs other one too). I think we do things that you do , walking , love cooking and a glass of vino / beer. I’m trying to get Steve onto low alcohol beer ( slow process). Anyway, it’s a bit scary , venturing into this new phase but I too feel it’s important to have a plan !! We have enjoyed the vlogs immensely, thanks , claire

Thank you for subscribing, it sounds like you are on a similar journey to us! It can feel quite daunting when you are mid process and we were lucky as with the van we kept planning trips away to keep us busy! Rich tries loads of different 0% beers, he likes erdinger and the Aldi German beer ones. Hope all goes well with your plans x

Brilliant guys and I love a challenge . I love the maths bit and I strive to improve by 1% if doing any physical training. Having just turned 60 however I am mindful of altering my expectations! I was once told the trick to doing hard things is to do hard things. Dave

The small improvements and pushing yourself does definitely make a difference. We do notice that if we haven’t hiked for a few weeks that it takes a while to get hill fit again!

Brilliant stuff both 👌🏻 Just read atomic habits and it’s a great book for building positive outcomes. Are you going to keep it going in December? 👏🏼

We are still eating much healthier and keeping active. Richard is keeping up his stretching and strength work. Not specifically the press ups but added in more variety instead. I am going to start having a go at getting into a yoga routine in the mornings as it is something I can keep up when we travel.
