    Well as already said by many others your videos are full of all the nitty gritty info that we want to know, thank you !
    We seem to have the same approach to spraying as in the system and utilise the same products, however for me I can never seem to be able to spray under 2000psi. I was really surprised to see you able to achieve 1400psi on a 515 tip.
    I have had problems recently with being able to see regency vertical stripping from side light and artificial light.
    I only use Caparol products which recommend no more than 5% thinning, however I think maybe it’s the thickness of the paint causing these problems. I have now ordered the Wagner Nast spray heated hose to hopefully sort the issue as I have tried everything else.
    Any thoughts you may have on rooms with big side light.
    I am in France where we have strong sunlight and I work on a lot of modern open plan new builds.

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety

      I really do appreciate the kind words of support and especially your methods from France 🇫🇷👌👏👍😆 ..The lower 1400 psi is down to using the Wagner HEA ProTip 515 with the Wagner TradeTip 3 Tip Holder 7/8”.. I really do rate this tip 👌 You can usually shave 500 psi Vs ‘other’ tips ..I only thin if I have to and usually just a splash of water, it makes all the difference to ease the flow that little bit.. The heated hose, I’m confident you’ll bring the pressure down (definitely the viscosity will be lower).. along with a HEA 515. It will massively help knit the passes together.. you’re certainly using quality products in Caparol too 👏👏👏
      I’m quite envious you getting the heated hose 😆 id love one myself.. be sure to let me know how you get on my friend.. really great hearing from you and hearing about your process and successes 🇫🇷💯 regards Pete 😆

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety

      Hey buddy, thank you for the feedback, much appreciated.. yeah woodwork gets sprayed first, when going on to spray walls / accent colour and finally ceiling.. I typically prep the woodwork first, which would include the caulking.. then prime and top coats 👍 some primers / top coats can craze over the caulk (it’s a pain).. so I’m looking for the caulk to be dry before coating, or possibly applying Zinnser BIN before going on to prime / top coat.. hope this helps, great to have you contributing to the channel.. feel free to ask questions anytime and I’ll do my best to answer.. regards Pete 🎨💯

    Hi Pete, this job looks quality yet again. Once you've sprayed your woodwork, how do you find the drying time after applying mistcoat on areas above skirts that woodwork paint has hit walls etc. And do you ever get runs?

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety

      Hey Matt.. very good question 👏👍😊 ..In my experience I’ve never had anything untoward happen long term, such as runs.. but I have to agree that mist coat on those areas will dry a little slower versus the fresh plaster, where drying is almost instant 👍 ..It’s never caused a delay for me though, when I get the emulsion top coat in the sprayer, I’m ready to go.. hope you’re keeping well and having success.. keep in touch my friend.. @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety +1

      Ah nice 😆 really appreciate your kind words of support, means a lot 💯 ..You’ve got a nice machine there in the QT190 👏👌👍 ..I believe it comes with a 7.5mtr 1/4” hose.. not wanting to think you need to spend more money 🙈 ..A small whip hose attaching at the gun, will give you so much flexibility at the wrist.. the thickness of the 1/4” hose can be tricky to manoeuvre.. it’s not essential by any means, just makes life easier.. Just double check with your supplier if there’s any compatibility issues with your model sprayer.. for example my 7.5” Graco hose is already thinner at 3/16”.. then my whip is 1.4m and 1/8” diameter.. sorry if this is confusing.. I want to help you get started all I can 💯 ..A 515 tip for emulsions might suit better too.. I typically use a 515.. The supplied 517 tip with your sprayer, the material will come out a bit quick.. It can be surprising for a beginner how quick you need to move the gun 😆 Hope this helps a little my friend.. feel free to ask questions anytime, I’ll always get back to you and do my best.. @@PaintHQ Pete thanks so much. What brand tips are best for low pressure spraying in peoples lived in houses? I haven't bought any tips yet so want the most efficient for low pressure, low over spray. The guys at my spray shop are telling me to go with Tritech over Graco.

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety +1

      You’re very welcome.. As I see it, each brand has their version.. Eg Graco LP Vs Wagner / Titan HEA ..I can appreciate TriTech plays their part too, and a supply shop may have their preference if affiliated closer to TriTech ..I have a few TriTech tips and have success with certain paints ..That all said, the tip I’m using more than others is a Wagner HEA ProTip 515 (not to be confused with the Wagner Control Pro version).. knowing you’ve got a TriTech gun, I can say that the Wagner HEA ProTip will fit the TriTech tip guard.. the Graco tips will not, you would need a RAC X tip guard ..If you was to give the Wagner tips a go, whilst they do fit TriTech, just be aware the seals are different.. you shouldn’t have a problem, I’ve not heard of any but just wanted to point that out.. sorry to waffle on ..With all this talk about tips and overspray.. you will get overspray, it’s a byproduct of airless or any spraying for that matter.. it’s just about controlling it.. low pressure spraying helps.. technique is another ..and effective masking.. never give up, once you gain confidence you won’t look back.. put your sprayer to work 😆 ..I’ll help you 👍 regards Pete

    Hi Pete, beautiful video again
    I was wondering if I have excess airborne mistcoat overspray with a FFLP514. It doesn’t matter if it’s 800psi or 1500. It also tends to run down the wall if the pressure is too low.
    Do you think it’s too watery or perhaps a LP tip instead of FFLP could help? I have a LP517 which I haven’t tried yet

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před rokem +1

      Hey Jarrod, apologies for not replying sooner my friend.. could be a bit watery if mist coat is running, or you need to move the gun quicker.. the fresh plaster should suck the mist coat right in.. regarding pressure, that won’t control for paint flow (that’s the tip orifice size.. so a .017 will have a greater paint flow than a .014).. pressure is just used to atomise the paint and achieve the optimal spray pattern (no tails, s feathers edge and nice and solid and even across the middle).. when spraying emulsion / or mist coat, an FFLP wouldn’t make much difference Vs an LP tip, the finish is virtually the same.. only the way paint is atomised is the difference between the two and LP are the bigger sizes .. so .015 .. .017 and so on, then .014 and smaller would be FF LP ..id stick with the 514, the paint flow will be less and you’ll have mice control, then just try thinning less, about 30% water ..keep in touch my friend, I’ll always get back to you and I’m happy to help and answer questions anytime brother ..regards Pete

      Hey Rob, you’re so kind with your comments, I appreciate you supporting the channel 💯 ..That’s a very good point about the Albany Durable.. I do very much rate the product and it’s performance.. Regarding Optiva 5, equally an awesome product, I’m a big fan of Tikkurila.. my reason for Albany, is purely that Brewers is my local and pretty much the only trade counter that I can walk in to.. with bigger jobs I like the comfort of being able to get more mixed if needed.. I do place orders for delivery from Tikkurila.. AR2 is a mainstay and I’ll keep stock.. I do rate Optiva 5 and the ability to get any colour matched is excellent, it’s just the logistics of getting testers and more quantity mixed if needed.. hope that makes sense 😆 always great to hear from you my friend.. regards Pete

      Hey Brian.. yeah if I’ve got the footage, I’ll see if I can put something together for you.. bit of a tip I can give, is clean the frame thoroughly (something like a degreaser), especially if it’s a new build that’s got plaster or residue left over from the plasterer.. sorry if that’s obvious, it’s just that you’re never get a clean line.. not only will the finished result look poor, but it can be a problem with the tape sticking.. I use Deltec gold first, get a nice line and mitre your corners (very important), then use the hand masker with Q1 tape and 12” brown paper.. hope this helps a little.. I’ll see what footage I can salvage, if not I’ll definitely put something together the next time I come across Velux windows 👍 Take care my friend, regards Pete 🎨💯

    Thanks for the video. What tip did you use on the ceiling? I'm gonna by a Wagner control pro 250M and they only have green tips- so what tip size would you use on the ceiling if working with green ones? Also- if you don't mind me asking- do you do the ceiling last because the walls are easier to mask? It seems like every painter and DIYer has different preferences so it would be nice to hear your take on it :) I haven't used a sprayer yet but try to learn a lot in advance.
    Just a last question. Did I get it right that you only sprayed the white paint on the walls once? I mean- if it covered that blue/green color in one round of spraying that is truely amazing 😁
    THANKS again 🌺

      Hi Hanna, thanks for your questions, I’ll do my best to help you every step.. if I miss anything or you have further questions, feel free to get back to me.. firstly, congratulations on taking the leap into spraying 👍 it’s very rewarding 😆 ..This video I made on the 250M might be worth a watch, it does cover an important point about what tips you could use.. to summarise, unless you buy an additional tip guard, you would need to stick to the ControlPro propriety tips.. It comes with a 517, which you could spray ceilings / walls.. I just prefer a 515, the paint will flow a bit slower, you get more control.. especially helpful for a beginner czcams.com/video/3Mlzp37Uepg/video.html
      I’m planning a future video to demonstrate tip size and tip size in relation to paint flow 👍
      ..You’re exactly right about masking the walls to spray the ceiling last.. it’s so much easier to do it this way round, and you get the most perfect line 😆 ..Regarding the white mist coat for fresh plaster.. yeah one coat is sufficient, using an emulsion / water 50/50 mix.. I believe that’s touched upon in the video above too 😆 ..Hope this helps, keep in touch, it’s great to have you contributing to the channel.. regards Pete 🎨💯

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 3 lety

      Hey Paul, thanks for the support, as always very much appreciated 💯 ..I’m thinking, could you have been a bit closer with the gun than you would usually.. I say that because sometimes it can be hard to judge if you was using an extension, or if the ceiling was lower than your typical ceiling, your judgment can get thrown off.. Especially when you got the pressure down nice and low, 1300 is low enough not to cause bounce back.. do you remember if 1300 was what you’ve sprayed AR2 at before? AR2 can be a pain to go through, don’t get me wrong it’s an awesome ceiling paint, I wouldn’t use anything else, but it does prefer a bit of easing with water.. Neat with a LP515 I’m spraying at 2200 (2100 with a smaller / shorter hose).. like you I tend to ease it a little (maybe not 10% - but 10% is ok), then I’m spraying at 1900.. Thst‘a why I’m turning to the Wagner HEA 515 more and more, just a splash of water and I’m spraying at 1700 nice and clean, no or little bounce back.. keep in touch, let me know if anything helps.. you’re doing good my friend 👏👏👏

      Hey Paul.. good question about the TriTech 616 tip.. I tried the HEA 515 with AR2 in the handheld and a splash of water, it would not spray nice at all.. it might of improved if I ran it at speed 10, but I’m not prepared to run the handheld flat out.. it emphasises my point about it being good to have a range of tips from different manufacturers, and finding AR2 problematic to spray (just my experience).. so yeah, I switched it up to the TriTech 616 and was able to spray at speed 7, which I’m much more happy with 👍😆 ..And yet I don’t like the TriTech 616 used on the bigger pump (395), too much dust/fog 🙈 hope all that is not too confusing 😬 ..Just to explain also, the 395 was moved onto the next job and the ceiling in the loft conversion was small enough for the handheld 😊 ..regarding the hose, it’s a 7.5mtr 3/16”, which requires much less paint (less than 140ml), versus the 15m 1/4” (just under 500ml).. much more manoeuvrable too.. I stick to the 7.5mtr hose all the time now and if I need a longer run, I join another 7.5mtr.. they was on offer too at SpraymanUK 👌😆 ..Great feedback and question as always.. keep in touch buddy, I’ll always get back to you and help if I can 💯 Pete

    Hi Pete,
    I’m posting this separately as it’s a different question.
    Given your logical sequence of working up the room, e.g. trim, then walls, then ceilings, I wonder how you might approach a room with a dado and/or picture rails. I have a client who has just asked for the walls, above and below a dado rail, to be different colours. That led me to thinking about making design suggestions to clients who might not have thought of creating feature walls or highlighting dado and picture rails (perhaps white) against a slightly darker shade on the walls. Would this change the order of spraying for you, or would you simply hit the rails along with the rest of the trim and then mask dado/picture rails carefully and then spray the walls, and afterwards the ceiling?
    Many thanks for all your inspirational postings. With best wishes,
    Rob

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety

      Hey Rob.. no problem, I’m glad you’ve come to me for advice.. basically your logic is right (all woodwork first - ceiling last).. In terms of spraying (obviously job prep etc first).. you’d always take care of all the woodwork first, then mask up for walls, this would include dado / picture rails.. then if you have different colours split by the dado for example.. spray from the bottom up.. so if you mask the skirting (brown paper as usual) and the dado, you could use a wider tape, masking the bottom edge of the rail, then top edge of the rail and if the tape is wide enough the 2 runs will cover.. otherwise run a 3rd strip of tape along the middle.. then spray your colour over that rail.. pull the masking (you could look at keeping the top edge on) then tape and drape plastic from the dado down, covering the skirting.. spray your next colour up onto the ceiling as normal.. pull all the masking then tape and drape the entire wall to finish up spraying the ceiling 👍 Hope that makes sense.. it’s not as tricky as it sounds, an extra colour would (most likely) add a day to the job with drying tines.. my HSL video had a dado in the hall, can’t remember how much footage I filmed of the hall if you can see it.. it was only a one colour wall / white ceiling though 👍 ..Take care my friend, let me know how this progresses 😆 regards Pete

      Thank you Mick, appreciate that.. My go to products are typically..Tikkurila - Helmi 30 or Helmi 80 (30 is the satin finish). Then I would normally use the primer from the same system, so with Tikkurila I would use Otex Alva (it’s a very good adhesion primer).. Then I also like Caparol, so you have the PU-Satin, and another excellent adhesion primer called their Haftprimer 👍 ..Finally I’m a big fan of manufacturer coatings, such as AkzoNobel’s top coat and primer (it’s more of a high build primer).. Bear with me, it’s on my list to put a video together, spraying my go to materials for woodwork.. I’ve definitely got a video coming up soon where I’m spraying Tikkurila Helmi 80 (and Otex Akva) on a relatively large stairs 👍 as part of a HSL 😆 ..As for the overspray, I’ve never experienced a problem where the emulsion wall paint coats the oversprayed area 👍 ..Hope this helps a little, I’m there for you as always my friend 💯 Pete

    That's a really great video mate. I recently sprayed a freshly plastered ceiling using ar2 but only thinned by about 20 or 30 percent and it did bubble and peel in places. I put this down to maybe going in to thick with it? Or maybe I didn't thin it enough ? Or maybe a bit of both !?
    Also, did you use pink tesa over the little green once painted and how long did you leave the little green to dry?
    Only asking as again I misted with ar2 and left overnight and it still peeled with using pink tesa over it .
    Soz for all the questions! Many thanks

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey Chris, really appreciate you watching and giving the kind feedback 💯 ..Maybe just to edge on the side of caution, with AR2 by design providing such solid coverage, I’d look to thin an AR2 mist a bit more.. say about 50/50 or 60/40 in favour of more water.. at 60/40 the mist is still pretty solid and sucks into the fresh plaster a treat 👌 Regarding the Little Greene.. I mist coated (allowed to dry) and sprayed Little Greene in one day.. the following day, I masked off and sprayed the main walls.. My actual preference is Deltec Sensitive, I do occasionally use Tesa due to availability.. I know a lot of people rate Tesa, for some reason I have more success with Deltec.. I always use a sensitive tape when masking off walls (then use Q1 General Purpose / or SP80 on the hand masker), luckily I don’t get many snags... • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety

      Hi Tobias, really appreciate you watching the video 💯 Yeah it’s the Graco Contractor Gun PC Compact Gun.. in my opinion the Graco PC (Pro Connect) guns are the best in the industry for airless spray guns.. their introduction changed the game in soft trigger pulls, ergonomic light weight design that reduces hand fatigue and of course the PC quick change gun cartridge for on the job rebuild.. the original (bigger) version has the ability to alter the trigger length from the most popular 2 finger, to 4 finger if that’s what you prefer.. the difference with the compact is a static 2 finger trigger (you can’t alter that), smaller (compact) pencil filters and a different hand placement on the gun, where 2 fingers wrap round the hose attachment part of the gun.. sounds weird, but it so comfortable and adds that bit more manoeuvrability, especially when spraying trim / woodwork.. both have very small advantages over the other, so the bigger version perhaps, very slightly isn’t so manoeuvrable when spraying trim (only slightly).. whereas the bigger version is a bit more stable when tilting back to spray ceilings (just slightly an advantage over the compact).. but yeah both are awesome guns, I know very highly regarded in the airless spraying world.. both the same retail price.. I believe the compact comes with a free shoe lace whip, which really makes a big difference to manoeuvring the gun.. hope this helps.. keep in touch and let me know which one you go for, and let me know if I can help at all with anything else.. regards Pete 🎨💯

      Sorry for the delayed response.. happy to help if I can 👍 Pressure (psi) is dependent on tip size and product (viscosity) that you’re spraying.. basically you need to test your spray pattern before spraying your project.. start low, spray a test and up the pressure by say 200psi and test again.. keep testing until the bands (tails) each side of the fan pattern disappear.. you’re looking for a solid even coating across the middle, with soft feathered edges 👍 ..hope this helps.. keep in touch, would love to hear how you get on.. regards Pete

    Hi Pete, spot on job. Have you ever had a problem with the paint pulling using the Deltec Purple Delicte? Also have you ever mist coated with Johnstone's Covaplus or Durable before following on with the same top coats and if so at what ratios for mixing. Thanks.

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Lisa, thanks for your feedback, really appreciated.. The only time I have problems with Deltec Purple, is when I’ve prepped and repainted (sprayed) someone else’s work and it became evident that the initial paint job, the fresh plaster / skin wasn’t mist coated / primed.. it’s a horrible situation, we just don’t know historically how the plaster was prepped.. or another possibility could be dust contamination of the walls.. I think in either of these situations, it wouldn’t matter how low tack the tape is, there’s real potential for the paint to pull 🙈 Otherwise I’ve personally found Deltec Purple very good, the shade of purple is easy to see when finding your line too Vs other brands.. regarding mist coating / Johnstones.. in the past I would use Covaplus on my ceilings, I actually don’t mind the Johnstones range 👍 ..Including the Acrylic Durable for walls.. this video I’m spraying the walls (over a previous paint job) czcams.com/video/QIXCcJ3IIXM/video.html ..For mist coating lately I typically use Tikkurila AR2 mixed 50/50 with water.. have you ever tried AR2? It’s an awesome very flat matt finish for ceilings.. or I’m looking to use an acrylic primer for fresh plaster, something like Tikkurila Optiva Primer.. sorry I sound like an advert for Tikkurila 🙈 ..So yeah, in theory you could have success with the acrylic durable mixed 50/50 as a mist due to the acrylic base.. but I’d look into something more specific.. Johnstones do Joncryl Primer, which includes plaster as a substrate 👍 hope this helps a little, feel free to get back to me.. I appreciate your contribution to the channel.. regards Pete 🎨💯

      @@PaintHQ Thanks for a very detailed reply Pete. I use AR2 on ceilings all of the time now (roller finish) and its faultless just a little expensive, £43 is the cheapest I can get it local and its still further away from my local Johno's, however, they also supply a lot of the Tik gear which I have been thinking about trying. I tried the Joncryl recently on top of silk and it covered great and stuck solid however I found I had to let the top coat down a bit to get it to lay off better. I also tried Johno's durable matt as a mist coat using their recommended ratio of 4 parts paint to 1 part water, its stuck well but I haven't put a load of tape on it (usually use Frog Yellow) to try a pull test (I could as its my rental property without fear of upsetting a customer) I tried a few spot tests I'd say 20 different areas and 3 patches pulled back to plaster so I've lost a bit of confidence with that method, maybe a higher ratio as you suggest 50/50. This is one of the areas that is putting me off doing full rooms the risk of paint pulling. Thanks again.

      Hey Paul, thanks for your feedback.. really great to hear from you in Australia 🇦🇺👏👌😆 ..It’s a pleasure to be able to help and advise you any way I can 👍 ..First of all, yeah I pretty much pull the tape wet.. maybe it dries a fraction, if it’s soaking wet, your hands get covered in paint 🙈 ..Regarding the speed / setup of the handheld.. I too use a 208 for thin low viscosity material, but I’m at speed 3 or 4.. you’re right not really wanting to go above 7... as a general rule with airless spraying.. if you still get tails after when increasing pressure - increase tip size - so an .008 - .010.. here’s what I would try.. you mention thinning 5%.. I wouldn’t thin at all and up the tip size to a 210, I’m guessing your speed will be around 5... Then if you’re getting tails at speed 5, try upping to 7.. if still tails.. drop back to 5 AND thin the material with just a drop👍
      Is your 208 a Graco FFLP ?.. they are great tips, just sometimes, for an unknown reason you get tails like you describe (I’ve heard others say the same).. let me know how you get on, keep in touch buddy, always great to hear from you.. regards Pete

      anyway back to business. masking tape off wet after last coat, rolling the paper into itself, cool.
      I seem to get a few blockages with the Graco FFLP 208, even bought the finer mesh filters. i swapped it back to a wagner HEA 311 with better results but get sagging on some corners of door frames. i think it puts out too much paint or i need to go faster. will have a look for a 210 and look up some of your trim video's
      I have the wagner 250 pro and graco ultra, this is a hobby but you never know, a career change at 57. A lot of people over here hate painting and most houses are single story.
      All your advise is now locked in and i think you will be hearing more from me with more top video's you make.

    • @PaintHQ
      @PaintHQ  Před 2 lety

      Hey Paul, you’re very welcome my friend 💯 ..Ah yes I see a potential career change on the horizon 👌👍😆 ..Yeah the .008 tips are more prone to blockages by design.. a blockage can also look like tails, but more extreme.. just a quick point about tip sizes that may not be obvious.. a 210 tip for example will let out the same volume of material as a 410 but in a much narrower fan (4” Vs 8”).. you would need to move much quicker with a 210 tip but the trade off with a 410 is a wider fan resulting in more paint where you don’t want it.. I say this because, if the pattern looks good with a 311, I’d stick with that.. whereas a 210 would help Vs a 208.. You’re right the sagging on the door frame corners is down to speed and the number of times those corners are being hit.. it’s a typical problem with door frames.. you may notice from my videos that door frames (and window reveals), I try to ‘arc‘ around each internal pass, so the paint stops on the horizontal underside.. paint has less to zero chance of sagging on a horizontal (bit like a ceiling).. the architrave / trim part of a door opening is a little trickier, because the vertical surface could get hit multiple times in the corners.. with a 210 tip you may need to move as quick or quicker Vs a 311.. sorry I’m waffling on 🙈 Keep in touch, more than happy to help all I can.. Pete 🎨💯
