Just gonna pop in with some corrections: This coaster was never originally a slide. It was a coaster designed and manufactured in-house in 1983 as a mix between an alpine coaster and a bobsled attraction. The parts of the coasters theming that you attributed to its former life as a slide are just theming elements. Ascott didn’t make the attraction, they were brought in in 1985 to help make adjustments so loading guests in and out wouldn’t take as long. And for a family-built coaster from 1983, I think this ride is absolutely killer. It’s essentially a backyard coaster with an overblown budget, and it makes great use of its space despite some funky pacing issues.
It’s a personal pet peeve of mine when family parks don’t get credit where credit is due. The vast majority of Enchanted Forest was built and sculpted by hand on-site by Roger Tofte and his kids/grandkids over decades, Ice Mountain included. I’ve been daydreaming of building my own theme park my whole life, and I don’t think I’d be able to make anything as cool and charming as Enchanted Forest!
I love the point you brought up at the end, because I absolutely agree. I did not know all the stuff you mentioned in your first comment, I was just going based off of what information I could find online- which honestly wasn't much. You're right that for a roller coaster built by hand it is impressive
I'm intrigued by what appears to be extra tunnels that are now unused on this ride. Were the tracks re-routed when Ascott made the adjustments? It's difficult to see in the video, but it looks like there might have been another lift on the other side of the waterfall. And inside that first tunnel, if you look below the track, there appear to be rectangular holes in the floor that appear to make a path. It looks like they come from another part of the tunnel and then merge with the current ride path. Near the end, there is another trough and tunnel that runs next to the current ride path. It's almost as though this ride used to have dual tracks through the station and then a dual lift and the tracks would merge at the top of the lifts. Did I guess correctly?
@@gregorymoore2877 Nope! Some of what you’re seeing is part of the coaster/flume hybrid next to Ice Mountain, and some of it appears to be maintenance related. The track layout for this coaster has never been altered as far as I’m aware.
I absolutely love this ride but whenever I take friends their reaction is "Wow, that ride feels a little...unsafe..." And I'm like, "YEAH! isn't it fantastic?!!"
I think the wildness and instability of it is why I love it
Being unsafe and feeling unsafe are two different things. It's a roller coaster. It's SUPPOSED to feel unsafe. Any roller coaster that doesn't feel unsafe is not doing its job. 😁
Kind of funny take, cuz I thought the jankiness of it was why I absolutely loved it. Rode it repeatedly because I just loved it. I know I may be in the minority on this one but I clearly wasn't expecting much out of it and was suprised by what I experienced.
that's a fair take!
My feelings exactly. Loved this so much.
@@CoasterStudios if you're in the area, you really aught'a come have a look at my ride. It's one of a kind and recently patented.
Being from Texas, I'm not likely to get to visit, but this looks like something I would make a point to see if I were in the area. It looks like a beautiful ride in a beautiful park and any jankiness is part of the beauty. Like Arrow's first ever mine train at Six Flags Over Texas which I've ridden many times. It is also janky and beautiful.
If you knew the history of Enchanted Forest, you might have a better understanding of the Ice Mountain bobsleds. Build by one man and his family, the rides are mostly designed by the owner. I've ridden this ride hundreds of times, yes the transitions are rough at times, but, in my opinion, do not make this a one and done.
I live a few hours away from Ice Mountain Bobsleds. This may be the most un-relatable review I’ve ever heard from you, Taylor. I’m biased, certainly, but this coaster is weird in all the right ways. The entire point of the coaster’s existence is to be a unique, interesting family attraction and it absolutely succeeds.
I marathoned this coaster with my kids a few years ago and they were pumped for every ride. These same kids marathoned Lightning Rod last summer and also enjoyed the heck out of that. I think you’ve taken your i305 sensibilities and applied them to a completely different attraction. You’re right about the criticisms and faults of this ride, but fail to appreciate the entertainment value that it all provides. In so many ways, this ride is a Monty Python take on a coaster. Or maybe a “so bad it’s good” coaster. Either way, I look forward to the next chance I get to give it a spin.
I should probably try to be a bit nicer with my feedback. I appreciate that you’ve given us an updated POV and given this little gem of a park some attention.
It sounds like you also have some sentimental attachment to it- I've only ridden the ride once. I'm just basing it off of that one experience I had. I just wasn't a fan of the experience- but I'm glad that the ride has its fans! I imagine that's why its managed to make it almost 30 years!
@@CoasterStudios you need to train some customer service workers Taylor. Karen management is top notch on this channel.
@@CoasterStudios I appreciate the response. Ultimately, it’s your opinion in the review and your hard work that’s put you in a position to do these reviews with an actual audience that cares. With time, I hope you develop more of a positive take on these types of attractions that are maybe bad in a vacuum, but something special given the full context, experience, and history.
@@Thesmokercoaster He did handle the criticism well, but the OP was definitely not being a Karen. He had an opposing viewpoint that is valid and they articulated their argument well.
If it wasn't janky, nobody would be talking about it.
I grew up in Eugene, Oregon. While the PNW DEFINITELY needs a larger more fleshed out park, I'm really glad Enchanted Forest exists and I'm glad it's so weird. Oregon is a place that prides itself on its quirkiness (especially Eugene, Portland and Bend.) I don't think the PNW is the place to have a bunch of Vekoma clones and standard B&Ms. It just wouldn't fit. The bizarre nature of Enchanted Forest and the fact that it has an elven wooden fairytale theme really fits in well. I think it embodies the region better than Wild Waves does. Ice Mountain Bobsled is not the greatest coaster and no one expects it to be. But it shouldn't be "fixed" because it's better being weird and awkward.
That said, I do think that the region needs a larger theme park to fit in your more standard thrills. Or perhaps an indoor park in the same fashion as Nickelodeon Universe if weather is the main concern. But as it is, this park is really a perfect fit for the area.
Wild Waves is probably the largest park that the PNW has, and that's up in Washington.
The Pacific Northwest is just asking for a corporate investment park that takes advantage of all the scenery. Can you imagine Dollywood but done with a PNW flair? That'd be amazing.
@@ThyPandora Silverwood is sort of like that, though not on the scale of Dollywood. And unfortunately, Silverwood is off in the middle of nowhere and not close enough for most people in Oregon or Washington (or frankly even Idaho) to easily get to.
Having a Herschend style park located within an hour of interstate five in Oregon or Washington would be fantastic! I live a few hours from Dollywood now and it's one of the best parks in the country, as is SDC. There would definitely be an excited guest base if someone built such a park, though I don't know where they'd build such a park without it costing a fortune to build and facing myriad lawsuits (if you are familiar with the PNW.)
It fits the park perfectly. It’s fun for what it is. The log flume is also considered a coaster
Personally loved the jankiness on this one 😆
I respect your brutal honesty when it comes to coasters as I'm an enthusiast also. I've been going on roller coasters for over 40 years and seeing a place like this (MOM AND POP). You learn to appreciate the love and dedication from a family that screams community. I've watched your content for a good number of years and there's an edge you really gotta let go. I get it, it has a lot to do with your suburban upbringing. Embrace your surroundings, our Father in Heaven has given us all so much. Be grateful what you have and give thanks for the grace that's given to you. Have a blessed an amazing day!!!
I was really looking forward to this strange ride, and then it blew my expectations away. So wonderfully, memorably weird from start to finish - I think it’s awesome. Not even remotely close to a “one and done” for me.
After 900+ coasters, it's difficult to surprise me any more. When something does, I'm super happy. This ride is the Sharknado of coasters. Nothing about it scrams 'quality' and it probably shouldn't even exist at all, but it does and it's a freaking blast. Yeah, there are a couple of WTF moments, but that made it even better IMHO. Not gonna lie, it was the best steel coaster in my entire pacific NW trip and even sat in my top 20 for awhile.
Good memories riding this thing as a young kid. It warms my heart to see it still functioning.
My favorite ride at the park! When you know the history of the park it just adds to the charm :)
Wish the park stayed open later because I’m sure the night rides would be awesome
I’ve been saying for years that I’d pay extra for an after dark experience! Night rides on Ice Mountain? Maybe a spooky flashlight-led tour through the Fairytale paths? Could be a lot of fun! 👀
@@fullofbarkingdogs that’s a brilliant idea! 👍
I've rode this before with my younger cousin in the front car with me, he kept screaming "WE'RE GONNA DIEEE!!!" which was hilarious but I kept trying to shush him so he wouldn't scare the kids in the back cars. Halfway through the ride though he still hadn't stopped... So I just joined in. LMAO
It’s faster than The Matterhorn.
I imagine that for a claustrophobic person this is one of the scariest roller coasters in the world.
lol. yes it would. im claustrophobic
I am claustrophobic but I don’t mind it when it’s a coaster lol
@@Jakebtw i would still ride it but it would be freaky
Loved this ride as a kid. Just a chill roller coaster. That log rode though. That thing scared the hell out of me as a kid.
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you for all your updates
This was my home coaster. Super weird but I love it. I haven't got that bad of a trim one time, usually you just fly past it, so that was weird to see.
i honestly love the look of those cars they look like those 1 seat automobiles
Wow! Thanks for reminding me about this place. I've been working on this Zipline Rollercoaster invention for a few years and it's about ready to commercialize. Apparently, I'm only like 45 minutes away from there.
This gives me alot ot memories of RCT3!
My home park only have been a couple times my consensus the yellow train has always been smoother and the transitions aren’t terrible just hold the side bars and it’s fine the drop into the helix gives some amazing ejector air to when it’s running warm
oh neat they put an orphan rocker in oregon!
hey she may be janky, but she’s MY janky bobsled coaster
Hi CS, Have you heard that Rocket
At Furuvik, Formerly Black Hole at
Alton Towers, was recently removed?
I used to think this was an in-house coaster before watching this video.
"So after you board your very flimsy box..."
lol
i've been on this! I actually really like it that it doesn't have restraints as a larger person, very comfy but ngl pretty janky. I thought it would get hot ans stuffy in there but it was pretty ok, you get enough fresh wind in there.
It's Oregon.... everything is bizarre
4:58 I don't think I've ever seen a transfer track on a mountain coaster before!
I was sleeping when this was posted
Strange ride indeed
I live in Portland, and I’m a huge coaster enthusiast, but I still haven’t ridden this coaster yet. That should tell you something about the quality of coasters in the PNW! We need a big chain soooo bad!!!
From the videos I've seen of this park and its attractions, you have something WAY better than a big chain park. I live in Texas. I WISH there was a park like this in Texas.
Alpine coasters have speed regulators on the carts. It appears that certain design rules must simply be followed (angle range).
It’s worth noting that the clearance issues are due to the mountain originally being built for a mat slide attraction, which is why so much of the track is in a trough.
do you have a source for that? i’ve done a lot of digging on enchanted forest and have never seen anything mentioning ice mountain originally being a slide
@@tuesdayh8243 rcdb for one
As someone with slight claustrophobia I don’t think I would ever want to ride this ride.
Coaster studios must be listening to my conversations because I was just talking about how this was the scariest coaster I have ever been on lol.. also this park is the most bizarre park I have been to .
Abandoned kiddie coaster derails, injuring 420.69 people. No one found on the scene
“You got some air holes to breathe and off you go”.
“It’s the Matterhorn on a budget”.
Lmao 🤣👌🏻love your snarky comments. It still looks kind of fun and I would love to try it at least once haha. I definitely want to see more videos of you riding terrible theme park attractions, not just coasters. Would be funny and interesting heh heh.
If it used to be a slide, why do some of the slide parts have uphill sections?
you got some airholes to breathe...
*LMAO*
😂
its so weird to think that ice mountain bobsleds is almost as old as fiesta texas itself.
When are we getting a review of their log flume coaster?
I am not planning a review of it
@@CoasterStudios but it's the best roller coaster in the PNW
Also when will yall be going back to cedar point?
sometime this summer!
Has Taylor done his top 25 for 2021 yet?
No and I don’t think he will.
it's 2022 now, so it doesn't make sense to do one for 2021. But there will be one in 2022, don't worry!
Great ride but i was like 8 when i rode it but i rode it like 8 times
This seems ripe for a parody
anything for the credit
Fun fact, before COVID hit the park was planning on opening a 3rd coaster
Do you know what model
@@jayminyoel7911 no unfortunately
I couldn’t agree more with your review!!! I believe it’s SPOT on!!!
man that red circle and arrow is super cringe
Call we call these Pope Trains
Eh you feel like your reaching death, grip onto the air holes. Sure if the box goes flying you might hurt yourself but at least you'll feel more safe...
Yea not my best comment
Parody
Depending on what seat you're in, you can get a little pop of airtime before the midcourse "stop" trim. Haha! Been riding this thing for over 20 years. You said it exactly, it's a mini (bad version) of Matterhorn.
The fact a coaster needs air holes so you can breath, you might as well be in a military tank or WW2 submarine.
Annoying coaster guy is butthurt family coaster built by tiny independent park isn’t as good as Matterhorn bobsleds or a multi million dollar family coaster somewhere else…. Cmon dude lol
That Roller coaster should go the Scrapper.
Disagree.
