Has Kitchen’s Success Made Star Yamaha Rethink Their Ways?

- On the most recent episode of our MotoXpod Show, Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing's Jordon Smith was asked if Levi Kitchen's success since leaving Star for Pro Circuit has changed the team's out look. Especially as Kitchen and even Haiden Deegan have both commented about needing to focus more on technique and less on motos. Here, Smith tells us about the changes and also answers a follow-up question about the state of secrecy in the sport against injuries and contracts.
Seems more likely that Levi is just gelling with the Kawi, especially when you look at Shimoda’s struggles on the Honda. That KX250F is a great bike.
Levi won races on Yamaha and Jett and Hunter won basically everything on the Honda CRF250R so it’s okay to say Levi is gelling with the Kawi but to bring the Honda into the chat makes zero sense.
It really is. I've had 4 different kx250f's and they've always been amazing. My favorite one still today was my 2008 kx250f
@@jpesicka999 it’s perfectly relevant to point out that the guy that went to Kawi has had immediate success while the guy that left hasn’t. What makes zero sense is claiming that Jett & Hunter doing well on the Honda means every rider will.
That KX came around right when Joe left for honda

I think Levi needed for himself to get away from undo stress pressure with Haiden in the house maybe needed to figure it out..good for Levi no hurt no foul going forward..
The is no reporting of salaries like in the NFL all because there is no union/riders association. Hopefully a mandatory injury reporting policy will be put in place. Even though gambling does absolutely NOTHING positive for the sport and was a terrible decision to start with.

Absolutely correct. 250 should be for Young riders.. people that's raced 250s for 9 years shouldn't be out there. Jordan is a prime example of it.

I think it needs to stay east and west coast 250 classes, just so there is more opportunity for the young guys coming in to show their stuff. But like another rider said, I don't remember who, do more showdown races. Out of 17 races, 9-10 of them showdowns. The rest split. Another take could be, make it a single full season 250 class, and make the futures racers more of a spectacle.
They could do a night for 250 futures and 250 pros as the main to get the 450s more of a break and everyone would get more races to watch
Once the venues fill the seats consistently then the big money will come. Also remember the teams have bills to pay. Football players are similar to riders, your next injury could be your last, and the teams have to pay out money for nothing. I'm pro rider but its a business first. Nothing has changed except now we have the internet to highlight the sport.

9 years in 250s.. Jordan sucks... Look at all the 1st and 2nd year riders consistently finishing ahead. Considering he's raced these tracks a shit ton of times compared to everyone that waxed him, like always. 18th 2nd moto. His contract is up this year. He will not be factory again.

I feel like star is the opposite like the good guys come to star for that push an the younger guys need that push...is there a fine line with feeding the fire an smoothening the fire fosoh but you can't hate on the drive of the team

Exactly..you just answered your question. Levi was super inconsistent in SX and MX last year. This year in was a drastic difference in SX as far as wins, podiums and consistency for him. So far MX is good too!

Team owners don’t benefit from public deals. Otherwise you have NFL style deals where people wait to see what so and so got paid. Higher salaries year over year.

Maybe having a full sx 250 could be a good idea but they have to be moved out at some point. You can't have sand baggers . 250 is a stepping stone. Work hard, if you can't make it, get another job just like anyone else. If I cant step it up and do my job, I get fired . I need to work hard every day and improve, if I cant handle it, I need to find something new or loose my job. Stop complaining about the money, you get to ride bikes for a living. If you want to keep making money riding bikes, work hard and improve or the real world will come for you.
Imo Full 250 and New East / West 250 class for the entry level, like emx
Yamaha didn’t get rid of Levi. He left for Kawi. Honestly, it was a better fit. Best of luck to him. He’s gonna push Deegan which is good and going to be fun to watch.

With beta triumph and Ducati coming into the 450 class factory ride is going to be getting 12/13 privateers are going to be fighting a lot harder

Same reasons your normal employees aren't allowed to discuss salaries. It's way for the industry and companies to screw you. It should all be public knowledge. Riders should be able to compare salaries and use them for negotiation. I bet you there's a lot of underpaid riders beating higher paid riders.
I wouldn't change anything. P.c. is cursed. All there guys crash out every season. Like they are trained to ride over their heads. Then again smith might fit right in lol.

@Fastbeeezy yes kawasaki had like twice the ama mx/sx championship. Than Any other manufacturer as far as 4 strokes.... before the Lawrence brothers anyways...But it's bin a while. Pretty sure a/c was the last in 2019. The last few years all p/c has managed is a good crash real.

No Kawasakis are just smoother then any other bike.
They've got too many riders. You've got more riders than any other team with more chances at winning and or podiums but only got 1 that's winning. Not a good look.
